Just now, while a guest on CNBC, superstar investor Mario Gabelli said that DirecTV “is going to be made love to by Verizon or AT&T”. Well, we all knew that John Malone wasn’t going to sit quietly by as his arch-rival Comcast swallowed NBCU and god knows what else. Now DirecTV and the telcos is yet another of the strategic alliances forming as Big Media consolidates even further.

New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

directtv and the telcos are vulnerable because whereas cable/cell are regional, sometimes national services, heavy on the infrastructure and hardware, now we have the interwebs!
video streaming and voip are sending these guys packing and it’s pretty cool…someone still needs to supply the data networks but that too will change…
i love boxee!
Would direct tv link up with Verizon/AT&T to deliver its content to phones? Wasn’t Comcast/NBCU a content deal? Not clear how related.
Another nail in their coffin. If I was a shareholder in DirectTV I would be happy just to get my money back. DirectTV is a turkey just lost money almost every year. I quit after they asked me to wait until they finally got their HD satellites working — years late. Verizon and AT&T are welcome to carve up the dead bird.
