Hopefully, Ricky Gervais will mock NBC, and dick clark productions, and especially the Hollywood Foreign Press Association when he hosts the bogus awards show on January 17th.

Yes, brilliant move.
“Bogus” is right. I’ve covered the Golden Globes as a reporter several times. What a hyped-up meaningless award. It’s voted on by a small bunch (with major membership restrictions preventing its expansion) of mostly mediocre press creating a false message that the award actually means something. Perpetuating the myth are Hollywood celebrities, the networks —and yes, reporters. I talked about it negatively on my radio network and was dismissed from covering it again. LOL, the tears I shed over that! Ricky –make the most of a vile award. Humor serves it best
Yay! Won’t miss it it now! He is consistently the funniest presenter at any awards show! Make sure Stephen Merchant has been hired as his co-writer! Sorry, Ricky! Luv ya, but your Stephen-less output is much less funny.
About time he hosts an awards show…
And don’t worry, everybody knows the Golden Globes are meaningless and just the most visible precursor to the Oscars. C’mon, six different acting categories (for movies alone!) and only one screenplay category? Kind of a clue where their priorities lie. That said, it’s usually a fun night of watching celebrities get drunk.
Golden Globes + Ricky Gervais = Toxic! Can’t wait!!!
Longtime reader, but can you say anything nice about ANYTHING?
I agree that the Golden Globes are themselves a joke, and shouldn’t be taken seriously by anyone (that said, sometimes the Globes get it “right” while the Oscars don’t). But since they aren’t going anywhere, it’s great that they’re going to have Ricky Gervais as host. He’s self-deprecating, thrives on awkward humour, and is very, very funny.
This is good news!
At least the Golden Globes are not as boring to watch as, say, the Academy Awards. Especially now, with Gervais hosting.
Bogus is the right word. I wonder if they still encourage actors to buy a full page ad in their publication in return for a GG award? Bill Cosby mentioned this little bit of info in a radio interview last summer. Well he never won a Golden Globe and now we know why. So yeah, BOGUS is the right word!
Fanf***ingtastic…
too funny that they still have the dick clark award shows in this day and age, the globes and the ama are embarrassments
The HFPA really scored and perhaps saved themselves from complete extinction for maybe just one more year having Ricky.
HFPA still is fake and sucks the life out of hollywood with their 25 people voting, I can’t wait until its over for them leeches.
Roger, stop taking yourself so seriously. It’s the globes, the stars enjoy it and people enjoy watching it, stop acting as if your word on it is the end all be all.
He is overrated, period. His HBO show was funny but that was it. I also watched his couple other movies and his stand-up special on HBO, it was pretty lame, not funny at all.
Mandy, in the future don’t say your opinion like it’s a fact. Gervais is great, The office and extras are his best work.
Golden Globes + Ricky Gervais = Toxic!
Can’t wait!!!
“Who?” – that’s going to be the reaction of the vast majority of the potential audience. He’s nowhere near to a household name.
ricky gervais is the sexiest man alive. And no, im not kidding. And yes I’m a woman and I”m tuning in. Ricky is fine!!!
James, you should take your own advice.
I agree with Mandy. The original office was funny, and he was good in it. Since them *yawn*.
This is going to be a train wreck. He no doubt will be self-aware and obsessed with audience reaction. Good reason why comedians should NOT be presenters.
