ICM just signed Michael Stuhlbarg, who is receiving Oscar buzz for his role in the Coen Brother’s film A SERIOUS MAN. He is also one of the leads in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming HBO series, BOARDWALK EMPIRE. He was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in PILLOW MAN and recently played Hamlet for the NY Shakespeare Festival in Central Park. He continues to be managed by Lisa Loosemore.

Nice props for ICM-good actor. Can he set-up a movie?
Michael is a brilliant actor!
I saw this guy last summer as HAMLET. I’ve seen this play performed by A-List Actors and I have to tell you, this guy was BETTER than those guys. One good nomination away from being the next Philip Seymour Hoffman to be perfectly honest. I would have loved to manage this guy. Been raving about this guy since he was a less than zero in Hollywood last year.
Does anyone know which agent signed him?
Where was he before?
Cornerstone in NYC with Mark Schlegel and Steve Stone – they discovered him and are two of the best agents out there, especially when it comes to breaking NY theatre stars into Hollywood. Think he was with them for about 15 years. Anyone know who Lisa Loosemore is? Haven’t heard her name before.
Yes good actor, but obviously no he cant set up a movie. But it’s all about that one role for a breakout (even though he’s been acting since the 90′s). Mickey Rourke, Josh Brolin, etc… Some people are hopeless like Corey Haim, but hey… like boxers have a punchers chance…It’s not over til fat lady sings. This guy is a good actor and hopefully we’ll see more good things from him.
And props to the Cornerstone boys for finding him first!
ICM is a mess and has been for a long time. When markets are alive and thriving and healthy, messy places can last, even do well. When these markets undergo shrinkage and pressure, a place that is a mess has little chance of survival. When all was said and done, this was the case with William Morris, which for all intents and purposes has been liquidated from the landscape. So now we focus on a place like ICM–their last merger proved a disaster, the Limato matter harmed their image, and the loss of every important client diminished them further. The place does not represent film stars, nor major directors. (Let’s be honest, by that I mean those who can cause funding to flow into projects.) So where, in a very tight, unhealthy, shrinking market, does ICM fit in? Well, it probably doesn’t and my own prediction is that we should expect in short order that it will go the way of William Morris. Someone will look at the books, look at the receivables and come to the conclusion that the company is worth more by not counting on future profits from the current operating model, but instead shrinking, dissolving, and monetizing the receivables. This reality I think is also not lost on the current ICM ownership/management. My bottom line prediction is simple–ICM, like William Morris, will cease to exist as we know it sometime soon. I can foresee no other scenario. All of that being a good analysis, why would talent at this moment sign with ICM? Answer is simple–this analysis, even though kind of obvious and whispered about, has not been widely publicly discussed by industry analysts. The meter is probably running.
Cornerstone boys? Stuhlbarg has been around for so long. The cornerstone boys took him on after many other agencies had dropped him in ny. he was a pain to work for and never grateful. He is a great actor but is that the business ICM now wants to be in? Great character actors? IE Christopher Waltz? Sounds like they want to be Gersh NY who by the way, dropped Stuhlbarg years ago cuz he couldn’t even get arrested.
Are you working in the same business as the rest of us? I hear Christoph Waltz’ name on every movie and I hear he’s getting paid a lot of money.
