Yes, she's in the Twilight movies. But right now she's best known within the Industry as the actress who steals the probable Oscar nominated Up In The Air. This is the time of year when the major agencies hunt for awards-touted talent.

Carl Icahn Now Wants ALL Of Lionsgate
If you haven’t seen CAMP–rent it for Anna Kendrick belting out Sondheim’s “Ladies Who Lunch”. Stritchie who???
It’s too bad that a company that has gotten her two franchises (Scott Pilgrim and Twilight) as well as a possible Oscar role would be betrayed like that. Not sure what else they could have done…sometimes the good guys don’t win.
“Here Here” to the 1st comment. APA couldn’t have done more for her. On the eve or her success she walks out. Its not as if she had lost momentum, or there was any doubt about having nothing on her plate.
Was it inevitable that she would leave? Perhaps so…..but just cold and wrong of her to do so at this time. Very sad.
Dear “Too Bad”:
I am serious when I say that it IS “too bad” when an actress like this leaves an agency like APA after all of their hard work for an agency like CAA.
HOWEVER…WELCOME TO THE F-ING WORLD PEOPLE!! It was “too bad” when I left mowing lawns for “fast food”. It was “too bad” when I left “waiting on tables” for a “soap opera contract”. It was “too bad” when I left “assisting an agent” to “becoming one”. And it was “too bad” when I left “agenting” to become a “writer”.
GROW THE F UP PEOPLE!!!
Business is business. APA made THEIR 10%. They saw this coming. And APA didn’t book her the role. SHE did.
I’m not a huge fan of hers by ANY means but come the heck on with this “loyalty” crap!!
Welcome to Hollywood people. If you don’t like it…you know where the door is…PLEASE USE IT!
PS – If you’re pulling for the “good guys” to win, any one of us will tell you that you are CLEARLY in the wrong town.
Bitter much? It doesnt sound like you have left waiting tables or serving fast food.
Not at all. Just weary of ignorance. I need to stay out of these comments sections.
I appreciate the “waiter” shot. What I write has been compared to “fast food” but I make a good living at it.
PS – Most of my colleagues, all better and more successful than I, will tell you the same thing I posted.
Her agency got her auditions, nothing more. She earned the roles by being good in her auditions.
BINGO!! I can never understand this “How could he/she walk out on us” business. Everyone who walks has either fulfilled the run of their contract, or will continue to pay commissions as long as legally required. The contracts are not lifetime commitments. Give the “traitor” yell a rest.
For the record, she also got the role in Scott Pilgrim on the basis of Rocket Science alone. APA never pushed her for it. She read for it and was offered it before Twilight was released. No one else was seen for the part.
While Ari is out there doing everything he can to get his name in the press and be the Paris Hilton of the entertainment business world, CAA methodically keeps its head down, focusses on the work and their clients, and beats everyone in the process.
wow. clearly they didnt have the clout to get her this far. Kinda like Michael Stuhlbarg and SMS
I’m sorry, but agencies like SMS and APA don’t have the client lists to assist someone in continuing to climb higher, the way larger agencies do. It’s not impossible, but take a historical look around. There’s no packaging that goes on at those smaller agencies. SMS has no lit dep’t, and very few (if any) directors to combine with. And it’s not risk free for a Stuhlbarg or a Kendrick to try to go bigger. They might get lost and dropped. But it’s a natural graduation, for those who want to take a shot, and the folks at SMS and APA must know that…or they should. If it breaks their hearts, they might ought to look for jobs at larger agencies, where bigger name actors tend to gravitate.
Lighten up, too bad. This is how it works. If she wasn’t getting any work APA would drop her in a heartbeat. She’s becoming a star and deserves to look out for her career and make the most of her opportunities. The “loyalty” thing is bullshit that agencies use to guilt clients into staying and is NEVER reciprocal.
Can’t believe it took this long. “When is Anna going to leave APA?” has been a Hollywood parlor game since she was cast in Up in the Air.
shocker! didnt see this happening… im sure APA will rep her in 20 yrs when shes died down again.
She has to be relieved that her role in Twilight is small, anything bigger could’ve screwed up her Oscar chances.
Too Bad: you are right that the small agency usually gets punished for doing a great job — they always lose the clients they launch. But once in a while an individual agent is able to bootstrap that great job into a ticket out off the farm team and into the majors. That is the dream: to hold on to enough rising clients long enough to be able to ride the wave to the big show. Hell, the newest partner at UTA started at Abrams. These things happen.
That was a tussle…
The Deathstar strikes again!
Saw her last night at the Arclight. Very cute. Movie was really good.
“Too Bad” good guys aren’t great guys. Reitman knew he wanted her for Up In the Air…he was never sold her by anyone. He saw Rocket Science at Sundance and loved her. It wasn’t a situation where there were even auditions.
I am all for agencies taking ‘credit’ when credit is deserved. Brian DePersia at WMA (prior to WMe) fighting for Brolin to get in No Country for Old Men comes to mind when he had QT and RR create an audition tape for him is an example of that.
But lets not act like she owes everything to her agent. She is going to be in the Hatheaway league after this because she has the chops and she needs a major agency behind her to make sure she gets every lickin of it. An her agent will likely leave APA and go to a bigger agency for “finding her” so everyone wins.
@ Fed Up WMEer
I doubt Ari would care about Anna Kendrick going to CAA. Endeavor, er…WME isn’t into signing everyone who has two legs in town like CAA. You heard that your company was dropping clients earlier this year right? Do you really work there?
Definitely wouldn’t put Anna in the anyone with two legs category, and Ari would run for an Oscar contending young actress out of the Twilight series in about half a second.
Brian Depersia did not have Brolin put himself on tape for No Country For Old Men. He never repped him. It was Michael Cooper (the jerkoff liar). I wish it was Depersia and I wish he got the credit because he rocks, but it was in fact Michael Cooper (the devil) who handled all that. I also think Jeff Kolodny also was on the team who should be credited for believing in him. As far as anna…we all knew this would be coming (ala Channing Tatum leaving APA and a number of hot actors on the cusp of superstardom). The agents are scum so I don’t have an issue with clients looking out for there careers at the early stages in order for them to go to a CAA or UTA. That is life. Deal with it and just make sure the manager that busts his butt and is loyal to there client doesn’t get dropped. The managers are looking long term future and really care about the clients (they should at least).
I have some breaking news for you- I HAD THE CHANCE TO SEE THIS NOT OSCAR WORTHY ACTRESS DO HER ONE NOTE ACT ONCE AGAIN in “Up In The Air”. surprise surprise- if this is the quality of what we call academy award talent, then we should see a very sad award season ahead. She is the same one note actress from her Twilight run… good luck with that! this is not a performance worthy of much. it will be very interesting to see what her new agency can do because they need a lot of luck with this one.
Sweetheart, it’s not up to you to decide if she is oscar worthy, people who know far far more about acting than you say she steals the films and is very Oscar worthy, obviously not everyone will agree but what matters is the people who matter in this town do agree…. like it or not Kendrick is a hot item right now. She has a very bright future, you just sound bitter about something.
APA is schlock but its just sad that it happens. Chris Pine stayed where he should be and is doing really well. There are others as well. CAA killed Julia Ormond. The Anna kendrick of the 80s
A couple things here….
Casting did see people for UP IN THE AIR, though Anna was on the top of Reitman’s list. I know this because I spoke directly with casting (they wanted to see a client of ours – one who wouldn’t read). Also Variety noted several of the namier actresses that went into read – including Ellen Page which I was suprised about, when they announced that Anna had gotten the part.
And just so you understand, several of my clients have been “on the top of the list,” but that does not mean they will get the role. It is absolutely about the diligence and resolution of her reps to make sure that creative stays focused on her.
Further to that, this project had one of the best pedigrees of the year, everyone who picked it up – loved it. People were dying to play that role, I can gaurantee you that! And let’s remember, Reitman is at WME, so they threw everyone they had at him (as is their job)… As did CAA, ICM, and everyone else. And still the actress from APA got the job.
What does that tell you? Cause it seems to tell me that you don’t need CAA to get a life-changing role, you need people that will be passionate and engaged and believe in you thoroughly… That’s all.
To all of you who say, “that’s just business” – let me ask, does this sound good business: Anna was one of APA’s biggest priorities, they were dedicated to her success and to finding the next great project for her. Why go from being your agent’s biggest priority to CAA, where she will easily be 20th in line behind the likes of Anne Hathaway, Reese Witherspoon, Zooey Deschanel, and Natalie Portman… If they still see an amazing role in Ron Howards next film, they go to the client with biggest pay day first and then work their way backwards.
Now will CAA destroy her career? Of course not. They will minorly build on the immense job of the predecessor, and once the job offers start rolling in steadily, they will claim credit for whole thing. That’s fine, I get it. But don’t fool yourself if you think you’re gonna get anything more out of an agent with a Constellation Avenue address than you will from the one on Beverly Blvd, but at least the agent on Beverly Blvd. knew who you were last year.
APA is on Beverly Drive. Just sayin’……
I agree with what your saying. Ms Kendrick is only going to have the career she would have had at APA. More importantly if she is to have a career as a Leading Lady and not a showy sidekick she needs to get her teeth fixed. Former Talent Agent.
There is nothing wrong with her teeth, they are white, straight, pretty much perfect.
Bill, You actually make more sense than all these people here.
Though, there’s nothing wrong with selling out, She will have an extremely hard time adapting to this system. Yes, She’s will recieve her oscar buzz. But the Oscar’s are now like ‘high school diplomas’ now-a-days. They lost credibility, wether you agree so or not.
I feel that she should at least stayed around for a while, until she became a house hold name. She’s young, fresh, and barely rising. An agency like CAA will not know what to do with her. She needs someone who will be very hungry for her, and get her the great amount of roles.
But hey, it’s just me. Hope they don’t under-utilize her for Scarlett Johansson, because that would really suck.
wow nikki. i think you should shut the comments down to people that are actually in the business, can spell and construct a proper sentence. These illiterate waiters and their arm chair agenting are clueless. CAA is all about market share. They just want more and more toys on their shelf. Poor Anna will be on a list 30 deep. good luck.
Bill —
Preach on, brotha!
“Too Bad” –
It’s the truth, man. It sucks, but it’s the truth. Don’t forget. This is a GAME we’re playing. The agents are the cattlemen, the talent is the cattle, and the studios are the buyers. What you need to do to make sure you’re always prime beef so at least you get top dollar before the slaughter.
FYI before Anna was at APA she was at Endeavor and was dropped. Give her a break. She is a nice person. This is a great opportinity for her.
Not to blame anyone…Nature of the business. Ride the wave of opportunity. They come, they go, who called?
i think anna probably left APA because yeah they got her the twilight audition. but she probably had to sign on for 3 or 4 films for shit money. and now her schedule has to revolve around twilight rather than the other way around.
i bet she grabbed CAA to muscle her out of this contract or to get her more money.
