So first WME signed the Sopranos star away from CAA. Now CAA’s Chris Andrews and Matt DelPiano have got James Gandolfini back after he went to the ol’ Endeavor with Brandt Joel.

bj promised penelope and gwyenth to ari and patrick but couldnt deliver so instead went on a signing bonanza that has lead to zero money for endvr/wme. gandolfini hit his peak with sopranos, probably will never land another good role.
That of course depends on what your definition of “good role” would be — let’s see, in this year alone he’s had tremendous success on Broadway with a Tony nomination for his work in God of Carnage, and received overwhelmingly favorable notices for his parts in the Pelham remake, the voice of Carol in Where the Wild Things Are and his terrific comedic work for In The Loop. I don’t think he’s looking to topline a film franchise, but just work steadily in solid roles/projects. When Welcome to the Reillys comes out next year i’m hoping that’ll be another success for him. I love that big lug.
I agree completely. Tony Soprano was the role of a lifetime. His choices since then have been excellent, if low-key. I have nothing but respect for him as an actor.
And in reference to some of the other posts on this board – even though I abhor physical violence, scum paparazzi ALWAYS deserve to get clocked.
I’m sure CAA will get rid of that typecasting problem for you James.
I saw JG in Gods of Carnage. Typecasting is not the problem: acting chops is.
Yes, because all those Emmy nominations and the Tony nomination for best actor are all wrong wrong wrong. Get real, hater troll. He’s a terrific actor, as long as you keep him away from roles with southern accents.
So those Emmy and Tony nominations were all just an elaborate prank, huh? Get real, he’s a fantastic actor trying to make a living in a world dominated by projects aimed at tweens.
Um… who wants him? Has anybody seen the video of him punching a photographer for, well, doing his job?
If you mean the video circulated on TMZ last year, yes. But of course you’re exaggerating when you say he punched a photographer — it was a jerk at LAX who was harrassing him and his wife (and is known far and wide to pull this stunt with others as well), and he just grabbed the guy to tell him to back off — and he apologized afterwards even though no one would blame him for being annoyed. He’s not pulling a Sean Penn on photographers so let’s tone down the exaggeration, shall we.
No, because that never happened. If you have proof of this happening, then share it with us all. Where’s the link, big guy?
There you go, big guy…

Let’s see — he didn’t actually punch the photographer, and that jerk was filming him along with his ex-wife and his son as they were taking him trick or treating. Who knows how much harassment had taken place before he finally decided he’d had enough. You can find pics of him from that day elsewhere on other gossip sites where the photogs were clearly trying to get his goat by snapping pics of his son. Yes, he can be a grouch at times, but who on earth was clamoring to see photos of him doing this anyway? “Doing their job” is just a pathetic justification for creepy stalkerazzi to annoy people trying to live some semblance of a normal life.
James, did they promise to make U a producer by packaging their clients for your passion projects? Or was it the same old “we can get U back to being a star post-Sopranos” etc.?
Gee…big loss for WME.
This shows yet again that without Patrick Whitesell, Brandt Joel would probably be either a used car salesmen a la Jeremy Piven in the Goods or at Paradigm. He is a so-so agent that can’t seem to really get it done in a big way. All agents are the same, say the same things and I am sure Gondolfini will get the same jobs he was getting before…
Can’t wait for James to score a great part because of this signing.
So much hate, people. Maybe you should spend more time working on your own careers
and less time hating on others.
He will be back on an HBO series.
Enjoyed him in In the Loop, good type of role for him to ease out of the shadow of Tony Soprano
I heard that “Nurse Jackie” is writing him a recurring role to play an anesthesiologist who gets tangled up in a love triangle with Edie Falco and Peter Facinelli.
“Hey, I go both ways – you got a problem with that!?”
