This is supposed to be a video spoof. I think. Or it could be a viral commercial cleverly disguised as the ultimate in bad taste advertising. “After testing the boundaries with their Chris Farley spot, DirecTV wrangles more famous people from beyond the grave to be in commercials”:

And they aren’t even funny
This is a spoof – in reaction to DirecTV’s ads featuring Chris Farley and Heather O’Rourke. Problem is, it’s not funny. Not even a little.
I suppose “Landline TV” thinks this is funny, and I sort of do too – a little. But you know who might not see the humor in it? The lawyers at DirecTV. Making fun is all well and good – using trademarked brand names and logos? Not so much.
Bullshit, Parody is protected. Ever watch Family Guy?
It’s the Internet. The rule is do it until you get a C & D letter.
This is definitely not a viral campaign.
So utterly bad. Not bad taste. Simply bad. Not funny. Bad.
I hope these never air on TV, these are beyond tasteless. I’ll bet they’ll rob Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, James Dean, Tupac, Michael Jackson and the like’s graves next.
Only if we are so lucky!
disturbingly untasteful
As a purveyor of irreverent humor, if I can call myself that, this is garbage. Not even remotely funny.
Oh, well, at least they didn’t summon Hitler. I’m sure they tried.
“This is supposed to be a spoof, I think”… um, ya, it is. you people are real morons. this is spoofing directv’s poor taste ads – whether it’s funny or not (and it is not).
Woah, imagine of they used Mohammed too? Heads would be rolling. Literally. How do you have a sick enough sense of humor to come up with these?
The current SAG contract probably allows them to use dead celebrities for free – after paying the producers of course…
Gotta love that there’s a directv ad via google haha
[Deep voice a la James Earl Jones]: “DirecTV… I see dead people”.
Hilarious! I usually hate low budget fan parodies, the ‘net’s littered with ‘em… but this had me rolling on the floor. Did someone just discover how to be subversive again? Bravo! Thanks for posting.
These are spoofs, people. And they’re hilarious!
That is disgusting. I am calling up DirecTV and canceling today!!
“It doesn’t take the messiah to see the value.” ROTFLMAO!!!
At least these were funny and only slightly less ghoulish than the Chris Farley & hot Kim Basinger ads.
I hate idiots, and love these commercials. Funny stuff in such horrible bad taste.
what a bunch of whiny babies, these are funny and the logo is used in a parody, chill out grandpa.
Yeah, it’s a spoof making fun of DirecTV for running the Farley ad. Pretty funny. But I don’t see what the big deal is about the Farley ad in the first place. When Comedy Central reruns Tommy Boy every week and makes money from advertisers running during the movie, do people get upset? No, because that would be stupid. So we see a couple seconds of footage of Chris Farley in a commercial. BFD.
why don’t we take the convertible? hilarious. maybe too soon. even for jfk. maybe that’s what made it funny.
also, props to mbm for putting tupac in the same group as marilyn monroe, judy garland, and james dean. clearly, he was the only icon of his time between the late 50s and early 80s.
I would never watch Direct TV anyway but now that I’ve seen these truly terrible spots that are an amazing combination of bad taste, bad execution and shameless concept, I will go out of my way to tell total strangers on the street not to watch Direct TV. I can only hope some 39 year old former whiz kid ad genius is now out of a job and out on the street selling his ass for star trek collectibles
I can’t wait for the Marilyn Monroe sexy lingerie ads, the River Phoenix Xanax commercial, and the Amy Winehouse PCA.And yes I know Winehouse isn’t dead, but she sure do looks like a corpse.
In bad taste?
First of all, I believe these are parodies. And second of all, they are FUNNY because they lampoon the very distasteful nature of the real ads!
Thats parody and it’s well done.
And as for Direct TV legal options, who cares. SNL gets away with parodying name brands ALL THE TIME.
this is a spoof MBM, its not real. direct tv didnt make these. landline tv did again as a SPOOF
Obviously someone wants to direct commercials in a really bad way, so he put these specs together. If this person ever does get to make commercials, the good news is that the scripts will have been written by someone else, presumably with better taste.
