I’ve confirmed that Dr. Phil McGraw has announced to his staff that he has signed on for another 3 years in addition to the 2 years still left on his contract. His show is syndicated by CBS TV Distribution and his own Peteski Production. So rest assured those cheatin’, lyin’, spendin’, cryin’ couples will get his help. And while I’m on the subject of syndication, the Tribune station group has renewed NBC Universal’s trio of awful talk shows – Maury, Jerry Springer, and Steve Wilkos through the 2011-2012 season. My question is: why?
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

And when was the last time he gave his staff (who work 24/7/365)a raise or bonus?
Har har. Ask anyone who works for him how they like the way he treats them.
Please God, no more Dr. Phil!
Why would they re-up Maury? Because it’s been beating Oprah in the ratings head to head in several markets. I haven’t watched it, but I hear it’s nothing but paternity test. Can’t believe people would watch that day after day.
Is Maury still considered a talk show?
I thought it was a game show where women could find out which of the 37 suspects are the real father.
He must be so proud of the fact that A Current Affair was the high point of class in his career.
Why Dr. Phil? He shoots in LA right? So God bless him for employing countless people who need to stay employed.
They are cheap to produce, but that is not reason enough to distribute this nonsense.
Dr. Phil, by the way, started out as a “jury doctor” in Dallas. He advised Oprah when she was sued by the beef producers for her disparaging remarks. I am not sure if Phil is really a family therapist, but at least he plays one on tv.
Come on, do humans really watch that stuff? .. so who’s tweakin the sweeps scores for that space?!
Connect your dots: the coincidental timing of the Phil renewal is tied to the current Oprah publicity campaign. Harpo produces and owns both. It’s unclear whether cbs wanted to ensure they had Phil locked up with the possibility of O leaving syndication, or whether Phil strong-armed them into closing his deal now because of the O discussions. (I don’t know because I left that world 2 yrs ago). But I promise you this sudden wave of O rumors, quotes and counter-quotes is planned, right in the middle of the Nov ratings period to bump up the numbers, since her last sweeps ratings book sucked. There’s an “uh oh, better watch O before she goes away” strategy being played with the media between cbs and harpo. And I’ll also promise that for many reasons, she’ll wind up moving her talk show to cable and then have it sold off-net to stations for much lower fees. I don’t understand why reporters aren’t talking to pros in the syndication community to get a fix on why this scenario is so logical business-wise.
How does Connie Chung go out in public with her husband Maury. That guy has sold his soul for a buck. His show is Pathetic. Its as low as one can get.
answer: they cost $5.76 cents a show to produce, exclusive of “talent” cost.
This guy is a no talent fake. His condescending tone and self serving PR moves are nauseating.
Any word on the renewal of “The Bonnie Hunt Show”?
Let “Dr.” Phil and Jerry springer trade shows. I bet Springer gives better advice.
Just lovely to hear 4 of the crappiest TV shows have been renewed for another season or more. No wonder syndication offers the VERY WORST programming on television today. Dr. Phil is nothing but a low-life hump and these other goobers are nothing more than sleazebags that shoot their shows in Stamford, CT for tax-related incentives…not too far away from that other circus that resides in that town…the WWE
SELF-SERVING sums up who Oprah and Phil are, especially Phil. Nepotism at its best….Jay, Jordan and Robin…need I say more? I’m counting down their last days on the air.
