Sony just announced that Michael Jackson’s THIS IS IT has reached a box office gross of $200 million worldwide. The film has taken in $61 million domestically and more than $140 million internationally. So maybe AEG’s prediction setting up all those unrealistic expectations that the pic would make “$250M in its first 5 days” should really have been “$250M in its first several weeks”.

Now there will definitely be a sequel: THIS IS REALLY IT.
Followed, of course, by a third film to complete the trilogy: THIS IS IT – SERIOUSLY.
And then in a decade or two they’ll decide a fourth installment is necessary: THIS IS IT & THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL.
I can’t wait!
The movie was a spectacular piece of art, story, and emotion. This from an old Thriller era fan, who wandered far away during the ‘bad’ years. To have seen the reworking of the classics to be even better, was heartbreaking that they never go to do the show. But, this movie is great, and when the DVD hits, I think it will do very very well.
(I have no industry experience.)
realist expectations or not the fans get a small scale of what IT could Have been and hope SFony give some of it to the young Jacksons.
Looks like the lawyers are going to get something out of this after all. Because the moment the money starts flowing to the Jackson estate, the litigation soon follows.
“First five days” vs. “First few weeks” = as MJ said, they just needed to “make it simmer…” $$$
This is good news for the producers. I’m surprised that the international box office receipts are so much more than those in the U.S.
Sony jerked Michael around for years, promising him ‘his’ movie. Michael experimented with long form with many of his videos, including work with major directors like Martin Scorcese, trusting that Hollywood would see and agree with his vision. It’s ironic that this movie made from bits and pieces of disconnected material could have the impact and financial success that it has. Imagine if Sony has done a proper film with him when it had the chance. We have lost a lot.
The fun part– All of the haters who said the movie would bomb can continue to suck it!
Any of you haters have a film (made, not watched)? How’s it doing?
