UPDATES EMAILS TELL THE STORY: A-List Board & Foundation Members Hiding From MPTF
Kevin Spacey has responded with this letter to me after I posted that email exchange between his London PR and an Independent UK journalist about the Motion Picture & Television Fund:
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Nikki, just wondering… I dialed in on an initial press teleconference about the closing wherein you posed some very provacative questions to Tillman, Katzenberg, and Shearer. Were those questions ever answered to your satisfaction?
During that call, I was shocked to hear, someone, (Tillman?) say, “Money is not the problem. The problem is that nobody wants to run it.”
BTW, I believe Kevin Spacey donated a sizeable amount of money to the SAG Foundation during the 2000 Commercial Strike to benefit his fellow Actors. He appears to be someone who ‘walks the walk’. I think we can believe him when he says he didn’t know about the closure before it was announced.
Questions:
WHO knew and WHEN did they know?
Is it true that there were no board and/or committee meetings held to discuss the closure before the announcement?
If so, WHY was the clossure of the facility keep secret from board and committee members?
Something doesn’t sound right.
Renee – The Foundation Board had been dissolved, so it is entirely reasonable to believe that any named honorary members did not vote, although some may have been advised of the action. Why was the intended closure kept from other Foundation members? Good question.
Mr. Katzenberg is the Chair of the Foundation. Which Foundation members did he tell, and when?
Thanks, Kevin, for “Going Rogue” — Now, if you can only get the other little “Roguettes” to follow you out of the Vortex…
“the reasons for closure were due to of lack of funding and the bad state of the economy” – How large is the gap? Like anything else today (including social security, personal expenses, etc.), need to make some prudent cuts AND raise some revenues? Do we know what the burn rate is? Unclear why they wouldn’t try some fundraising to close the gap until the economy recovers.
Raise enough to keep it open for 2 years to see how things recover. Don’t need a billionaire (although would be nice), but a little bit from everyone should provide some breathing room to reassess.
Mr. Spacey,
You can turn this horrific situation around very quickly. Please say the following publicly: “The Nursing Home won’t close, we will find a way.” Call the other Board Members [Committee Members]. Tell them the following:
NO NURSING HOME = NO DONATIONS
NO NURSING HOME = NO DONATIONS
NO NURSING HOME = NO DONATIONS
Thank you.
The actor friend of a tormented resident of the Nursing Home
Kevin Spacey handled it well. I feel bad for the families and those involved. I just don’t get why my post was taken off yesterday. It was heartfelt and it makes me wonder about the freedom to express views freely on this site.
Questions beget questions – WHY and HOW was the Foundation Board dissolved?
Did the Foundation Board Members, themselves, who may have had a fiduciary responsibility to ALL members of the Motion Picture Industry, vote to dissolve the Foundation Board? Is that possible?
Although, understandably, from time to time, as may be deemed necessary for some specified, particular, purpose, a board may delegate its power and authority, temporarily. However, I simply do not understand WHY any board would ever vote to dissolve itself, permanently.
ra
RA – Excellent question. The Minutes of the Foundation Board may yield the answer as to whether, and which, Foundation Board members voted to dissolve.
And did the other Foundation Board members, who may not have attended Board meetings as Mr. Spacey seems to indicate, even know it had been dissolved, and why? The Foundation’s sole purpose was to serve as the fund-raising arm of the MPTF.

Why is the law – and the lawyers – acting like Ostriches on this?! There certainly seems to be more than enough evidence to warrant a thorough investigation…
