I’ve been meaning to post about YouTube star Shane Dawson. So now the Fine Brothers have brought some production value to his channel by co-writing and co-directing this weekend’s epic 11-minute send-up of the Canadian TV show DeGrassi: The Next Generation which is a U.S. cable staple. (Must be on its 4th generation by now.) The video, like every video Shane makes, was seen half a million times in less than a day on November 21st, and now has a total of over 2 million views. (Shane gets tens of millions of views a month, which is more than most shows on cable networks.) This spoof is funny in parts and sick in parts. But it’s a post-holiday Monday, right?

Some of the impressions are pretty good if you know the show. So points for that. But the actual writing? For somebody this popular its kind of shocking how crappy it is. The Asbergers joke in particular I wouldn’t even expect from the guys who make the Epic Movie/Meet the Spartans movies.
Just give him a show on Comedy Central and then cancel it after six episodes and get it over with.
Shane’s a superstar. From Take180′s ‘Glee’ spoof it’s clear that he will be moving
In our ‘Glee’ spoof Shane plays all

I’m in the wrong biz. I made it to 4 minutes before the ( humor ?)
just made me say no.
Why try to create a great sit com when people watch this more then the Jay Leno show. Nasty is more like it Nicky, this video is just nastier then Beavis and Buthead, South Park etc.
Wow, this guy is blowing up, he’s on the Adam Carolla podcast today as well
Wow, I was really expecting more after Nikki’s description. More evidence that I am rapidly aging out of any relevant demographic. If these are the improved production values, I’ll skip his earlier work.
im a youngin and i dont find it funny either. this is for people who’ve grown up on mediocre disney shows and think JUNO is groundbreaking cinema.
Wow… this is comedy?
(I admit some of the remarks are pointed and on target, but this is not working for me overall.)
