MovieTickets.com asked over 32,000 filmgoers which movie without an existing film franchise they’d like to see turned into a sequel. Here’s a look at the Top 5:
1. The Hangover (37%)
2. District 9 (27%)
3. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (21%)
4. Watchmen (8%)
5. Paul Blart: Mall Cop (7%)

G.I. Joe is an existing franchise, and already had a movie before that one. Also, Watchmen, the hell? Reaction was tepid, and, it wrapped up fine in the end. Why?
Seriously. Everyone knows he dies in the end of the first one.
G.I. will CRUSH Hangover in a franchise.
If G.I. had more than two weeks to create a script (writers strike)it’ll be a long term performer. Think what the writers could do with more than 3 weeks.
Its not a top 5…there were only five choices in the poll.
• There Will Be More Blood
• The 45 Year Old Virgin
• No Country for Old Men Nor Old Women
• The Hurt Locker: Afghanistan
• Michael Clayton, Jr.
• The Informant!!
If I want a franchise, I go to a Dunkin’ Donuts.
People voted for a Watchmen sequel clearly because they want to see more blue naughty bits. James Cameron, are you listening?
Dear God, no more Watchmen.
This is not a top five list…the survey only had the five choices.
If GI Joe is not a franchise then what qualifies as “not having an existing film franchise?” Only properties that were not already made 20 years ago?
Non franchise sequels I want to see:
“Dude, Where’s My Gun?”
“Cat Ballou II”
“Cold Turkey II: Priest and Prophylactics”
“2012: It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”
“28 Years Later…”
“Avatar II: I Wanna Be King of the FanBoy World”
People voted for a Watchmen sequel clearly because they want to see more blue naughty bits. James Cameron, are you listening?
I got it! Hangover 2! Only this time not in Vegas but HOTTER! In Hell! right cool! It’s about four guys who go on a road trip to hell only when they get there Satan torments them and they never get out! Isn’t that awesome! Hey, what percentage of people go to hell? Maybe 37? I don’t know…
Isn’t GI Joe already a franchise? It’s the first movie, but even 5 year olds probably know the intent was for there to be sequels.
I could almost say the same thing for District 9, but since that’s not an established property, it’s different. Every time someone in the movie talks about something that will happen “in 3 years”, it feels like we’re being hit over the head with the idea that there will be a sequel in 2012.
