OMG. I never thought I’d live to see the day… A George Clooney solo movie that could be actually make money at the box office. I’ll be saddened if that actually happens because then studios and financiers will continue funding Clooney’s self-indulgent crap like Leatherheads and The Men Who Stare At Goats.
I don’t get it. This was a terrible movie. Too self conscious and then at times slapsticky. Kendrick’s voice drove me nuts, and I’ve seen Clooney do all the same things a million times before. The only one with acting chops was Vera Farmiga, who deserves a better movie than this idiotic thing.
Great movie. perfect performance by Clooney.
Great movie — if you don’t care about story and hate characters…
Almost as depressing as The Cohen’s latest…
It’s a piece of shit, made by people so out of touch with the subject matter, it’s contemptible.
How do Voting Member,
Shall we joust?
Who ARE you? Goodness gracious. You’re totally wrong. It’s a great movie with inestimably talented story, actors, director.
I’m a voting member too. Not that I would even mention that fact, except that you seem so holier than thou and I wanted to try to put you in perspective here. Thank God I canceled out your vote ‘against’ because I voted for it along with a gazillion other… (with a Lional Barrymore affected accent)… “Voting Membaaaasssss!”
Tracy, you are obviously new in town or have never worked with/for the principles involved with this film. To imagine that they have an ounce of empathy for the “fired working stiffs” in the movie is laughable.
Besides, the cynical nature that they bring to the project, it’s certainly not worthy of all the accolades being bestowed upon it.
Haters.
I just watched my screener of this tonight. Not very funny and more than a touch too depressing. Visually very strong at times however. The script and story were a little weak, although the characters were interesting. Overall feeling, if you are Jason Reitman and you get George Clooney you can get any script made.
I have yet to see the movie, but whenever I hear Vera Farmiga is in something I know at least I’ll be in capable hands when she is on the screen. her talent should make her a bigger star, unless she prefers to keep a lower profile.
She’s like a female Nathan Fillion to me (although he brings a different kind of comedic and actiony talent). Keeps working, hasn’t really broken though until maybe Castle is really it for him.
It’s less good than it thinks it is, but I can already see the wheels spinning to make it like Hollywood cares for the unemployed.
Some years it’s the gays, others it’s the blacks, others, the Latinos.
It should be the year of our soldiers in Iraq (if we want to feel dutiful and patriotic), because the movies about the subject are actually pretty good (except for Brothers).
But this year may very well belong to the little people, who thanks to the economy, have less money to spend on movies. Hence Up in The Air, may win the best picture Oscar.
At least Up in the Air steals the thunder of the dreck mit kabebe that is Invictus. I’d rather Avatar win than that piece of excruciating, pompous hackwork.
Vote for Jeremy Renner!
Smart, affecting movie. Clooney makes you care about his character.
Well done.
Clooney’s movie is a winner. I luv to see all the negative BS in these posts. Everybody’s gotta be somebody.
Can someone explain to me why this movie has been in limited release for so long? I know that it’s usually so that a “harder to sell” movie will gain legs and build through word of mouth. It just seems that this movie has been around a long time and I feel like it’s already old.
Like Benigni’s Life is Beautiful, it did a great job of flipping your emotions on a horrible subject upside down. If you judge it on its merits, instead on those involved, it’s a home run.
I saw this movie last night, and thought it was pretty good. What sold me was that I had trouble sleeping thinking about all the different plotlines.
The book, of course, was from the time period of the first Iraq war, and they made some changes to it, and used actual people that have been laid off in that matter. I guess it rang true to me in that I spent 4 years flying across the country in support of General Motors, racking up 600,000 frequent flier miles. While I didnt lay people off, I think back and I would say nearly everyone I dealt with at GM is now gone.
George Clooney, picks excellent movies to be in….sans the “Ocean’s” flicks….but who can blame him…what a cash cow. He’s an excellent actor and an excellent biz guy and he has a pulse on what we want to enjoy with our popcorn and Pepsi. UITA is a fantastic motion picture.
