  • Just what we need…more fuel for the fire of anti-Semitism, in a time where we don’t need any more negative stereotypes going viral or, for that matter, being put out in any forum.
    I have a very good sense of humor, but am also a realist.
    If we joke amoung ourselves using such exaggerated stereotypes, it can be called “self-deprecating humor”, but sending stuff like this just feeds into the misconceptions and ignorance of those who don’t know enough to realize that this is a spoof.
    Put your free time to better use and concentrate on delivering positive images of our people for all to see.

• this video is gross… as a jewish-american, i find its use of “jew-face” (similar to tom cruise in tropic thunder) offensive. believe it or not, “J.A.P.” is a ethnic slur.

• The most dishonest moment of the this video comes at the very end, where the ‘soft’ anti-Semitism that it communicates is disowned and displaced into Walt Disney’s racism: ‘People have said that Disney’s anti-Semitic. After working on this film I can say that is absolutely correct.’

  In other words, we are meant to read as ironic the anti-Jewish tropes and stereotypes. The content is ‘really bad’ (in the sense that it’s un-PC), but it is partially redeemable, it is acceptable to enjoy and laugh at, for the reason that it is presented as am ironic parody of (someone else’s) racism.

  The problem here is that we’re given an alibi (‘irony’), by which the soft anti-Semitism is allowed to slip in. In other words, if we read a transcript of a Himmler speech, the obvious and only choice is to reject it immediately and fully. In the case of this sort of ironic racism, it’s less clear. We joke or laugh about these racist tropes on the basis that – of course – we don’t really believe in Jewish conspiracy, etc. etc., but at the same time we really do partially ingest and believe the lite racism.

• Funny. The animators are obviously goy, but the spoof does tie into recent anxiety about how American Jews and their culture are depicted in media. Another aspect is how harshly American Jews depict themselves, like Larry David on “Curb,” for instance. Paul Mazursky discusses the trend on a recent PJTV “Poliwood” segment on Jewish Stereotyping.

• Overall, mostly well done, but I can’t help shake the feeling they’re riffing more on the generic “spoiled rich girl socialite” than anything having to do with the stereotypical jewish american princess.

  What’s the difference, you ask? Less Blackberry-focused jokes and a something about having to settle for college safety schools probably would’ve done it for me.

  Those girls all felt like the offspring of producers and publicists, not dentists and dermatologists…
