Oh my god, that’s horrible. Obviously the state of the economy has taken its toll.
What they really need to do is squeeze every penny out of the unions, only make international tentpoles, consolidate into giant corporations that control all means of distribution and make sure all of their executives are completely overpaid.
That should fix it.
Hey, Jimmy, you don’t like it the Slizzer is always looking for people to hire.
Difference this year? No Speed Racer.
my thoughts exactly.
now prepare the way for all the studio apologists who love to get on here and rail against the unions for being so greedy towards those harding working studio execs and their multinational conglomerate corporations. in truth, it doesn’t matter how much this studio or that studio makes; they are masters at hiding profits and will always pretend there’s not enough to go around.
And how much of it went to the writers? Like .00001 percent?
The next time Hollywood studios claim poverty and need to film in another country for tax incentives, just laugh.
Damn those pirates! They’re destroying the bottom line!
Let’s fire some more TV writers!
Kate, producers, directors, actors, all take pay cuts to get there project made, no writer ever does that… No worries Kate keep writing your shitty stuff my dog can write or I can think of on my way to set…
These studios better start sharing a bit more of the spoils to the VFX studios behind lots of their success the last few years, or there won’t be any movie magic left to be had much longer. That’s a story I’d like to see you break sometime, Nikki.
Oh boy – more layoffs in store with these numbers! Shit. Tough times for Hollywood, right? Glad the studios shed thousands of employees this year. Looks like all that “necessary belt tightening” is just another Hollywood fantasy. When is everyone gonna call bullshit on this?!?
This would be good if they were not the wrost studio in town to do any business with.
So it’s not.
Yet Warner Bros continues to lay people off, outsource jobs and hire temps/contract employees. Disgusting.
It’s called maximizing shareholder value, just like when shoe companies moved most of their operations overseas. Good for WB now Disney needs to cut excess. Movies are not art they are a business, which is expected to make money lots of it.
Writers, Actors, Directors need to by paid once, not over and over again, I don’t see writers putting up the cash to make a movie, a television show.
I for one, am happy for the folks at WB.
They gave us some good movies these past years, from Harry Potter, The Dark Knight, The Blind Side and many more.
Congrats!
@ Ryan…

I wish that were true, old fellow. But the studios will be doing lots more business with Asian VFX companies. You can bet on it. Look how wonderful outsourcing has been to American business in general! Wahoo, happy days are truly here again (if you’re a top-tier exec) !
Can we have the jobs back please? It’s true, while LA is a total mess, there are plenty of its citizens who don’t know the economy sucks for those of us who work for a living.
