2ND UPDATE: ICM says Adam Weinstein is not joining Verve. Verve confirmed on Tuesday for me: “He’s a happy employee at ICM who signed a contract in May when he left UTA.”
UPDATE: I hear Bill’s brother Adam Weinstein, an ICM motion picture lit agent, is joining Verve, too. And Verve has just issued a press release with this joint statement: “We believe that in the ever-changing marketplace of today, artists need a focused, entrepreneurial, team-oriented group of agents. Verve will shift the emphasis from agency-first culture to artist-first representation.” It says confirmed clients joining Verve include Joe Kosinski (Tron, Legacy), Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3), and Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners).
Previous: Motion picture lit agents Bill Weinstein, Bryan Besser and Adam Levine were Endeavor alumni who stayed through the merger with William Morris.
But now they’re leaving to start their own agency called Verve “modelled after Endeavor in its original incarnation”, according to sources. I’m told WME and the trio were talking about this for 3 months. “Discussions to keep them at WME have been a bust. They were upset that they’ve been passed over by the merger. Everyone thinks they’re crazy to go out on their own in this environment,” another source tells me. I understand there was one internal meeting where Ari Emanuel told the trio, “We can be foes or we can be friends. I don’t want to handle you like the way I was handled at ICM.” In the end, the agency paid their bonuses and December expenses, figured out their housing loans, and agreed not to go after their clients. Now everyone is claiming there’s no ill will. “We want them to be successful and we wish them well,” one of my WME insiders claims. Oh, puh-leeze. Where’s the fun in that for me?
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Echo Bill Johnson’s comment… “housing loans” for run-of-the-mill agents? Did Nikki bury the lede?
Can anyone tell me if this is the same Adam Levine that worked for Chris Barrett at Metropolitan 15 years ago?
All great guys. Have done biz with Besser and Levine over the years. It takes big balls to make this move and it will payoff for them. Just watch. Good for you gentleman! Guess it was time to get out of the WME machine and blaze new trails.
This is the wave of the future…or should I say….verve of the future…the big congloms are dinosaurs…a thing of the past…a species that will expire. Artists will be represented by small groups like this…congrats to these boys with balls…best to you!
So… when they were with EndMorris did theses turkbulls tell their clients that the agency came first? But it’s different now… right?
I wish these guys the best of luck. They have the guts to go out on there own…Good for them! Hopefully they will treat there new employees with respect and not the way the merger was handled. How does Ari sleep at night?
That there is what you call a “situation.” Go Paulie, go Vinnie, go Snookers!
Bring on the competition…!! And guys – get ready to
start paying some serious overhead. It’s way more expensive
than you think — but you will find out. Good luck.
These are three really good guys. Levine is a prince. They are going to do well in the long run!
word internally is that several big names on their lists are undecided. including Seth Gordon, Michael Arndt, Elliott and Lovett, and the Russo Brothers. Let the games begin!
Yeah, can’t say that I miss any of this ill will at all. Good luck, ya jackals…
Adam Levine is a force that cannot be reckoned with.
When 2010 concludes directors and writers will form a line outside of Verve.
It will be the new place for the die hard artist.
These are warriors!
Stepping into a battlefield they have fought inside and help shape for over a decade.
Good luck gentlemen and let the new age transpire.
Never a bad thing to shake up the status quo in this town.
Too many overpaid idiots sitting back, resting on their laurels. These are 3 overpaid idiots who seem to give a shit about their clients and the work. Wish them the best of luck.
No, Levine is the likable dunce. Or the smart little prick. Definitely not the “prince.”
you are a jealous jerk…who has nothing to do but bad mouth those that have guts to do something with their lives
Its GREAT news. No one should fear but fear itself. It takes courage, determination, persistence and leadership qualities to break away from the pack. This trio will blow everyone away — they learned from top notch agents in the field and their work ethics will prove it was time to move on. Much Success!
Nobody even knows these guys. They are as good as Fired Guys. You need players with name value to start your own company. These are low level agents who did not have any pizzaz. No personality, not particularly good looking although Besser thinks he is. In the end these guys will fail. It will happen relatively quickly. One will end up taking a job somewhere else. The other two will end up managing. One will then leave the business and the other will be on his own.
Mark My Words: From The Honest Answer
Cheers to all.
Thank you.
It’s not that expensive when Tom Strickler is picking up the tab!
What sweet revenge for him.
Is SIZE dead in Hwood? Perhaps the WME merger is a tipping point…
adam Weistein has a contract plain and simple.
Check out the AMAZING TYPO in the Hollywood Reporter’s HEADLINE..!
I’m a fan of all three of these guys. They’ll be successful, even in this challenging climate. Levine, Besser, and Weinstein are stand-up guys and very smart agents. Glad to see they are starting their own company!
Levine is a good guy but should have waited for two better partners to come along. The other two are jackasses beyond reproach and will bring this outfit down.
Besser was really a terrible agent who cared more about acting like an agent then really being one, he was just propped up becuase he was a strickler boy. Levine and Weinstein are good hustlers but the marketplace really is not there for a mp lit agency right now. I think AE was just laughing and is taking bets with Raskind how fast these dudes will be begging for their jobs back.
The real question: Is Strickler picking up the tab?
Strickler’s on a beach somewhere in Vietnam laughing at all of this…
More like Thailand…
