UPDATES Daniel Craig Saddles Up For Old West Alien Invasion
Daniel Craig has closed his deal to star in Cowboys and Aliens for DreamWorks and Universal, as I predicted. Craig will star in an adaptation of Fred Van Lente’s graphic novel that was published by Platinum Studios and revolves around cowboys and Native Americans who put aside their Old West differences to battle invading aliens. Craig will play the lead cowboy Zeke Jackson, replacing Robert Downey Jr who exited to jump right back to the Sherlock Holmes sequel. While he likely won’t identify himself as “Jackson, Zeke Jackson,” Craig has put himself in an enviable position: Cowboys and Aliens has franchise potential. And it will keep him busy while the James Bond/MGM situation plays out. (EXCLUSIVE: Sam Mendes About To Be Hired As “Consultant” On Bond #23) Brian Grazer is producing with Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and Platinum Studios’ Scott Mitchell Rosenberg.

This is great news – he will be perfect. Actually like this choice begtter than RDH.
The Predator franchise could have benefited from this plot years ago….no?
Zeke is an interesting choice for Daniel Craig. He is a fine actor that trying not to fall into the obvious stereotype.
No matter how good the source material, a cowboys and Indians against aliens production better be done very, very well or the fail will be epic.
I agree with Jannea that Daniel Craig is better casting than Robert Downy Jr. for Zeke. I also think that he would have been a better choice for Sherlock Holmes.
A good actor but very one note. I wonder if he can do much else than run around with a gun and flex his smallish frame in front of the camera? Best eyes in the business. More than anything else, they secured the Bond contract. But how far can a career go on extremely odd colored eyes?
If wondering what he can do besides “run around with a gun and flex his smallish frame”, you should actually look to see what else he’s done instead of assuming he’s only done Bond. Flashbacks of a Fool comes to mind. Kinda depressing, but it’s quite good.
Please see ‘LayerCake’. This will provide another side of Daniel Craig.
“Sylvia” is a fantastic movie. No guns.
My old boss developed this property for years and then lost it to Grazer et al. How depressing as it’s turning into a big, big movie. I wonder if the execs at Sony care? Probably not, this is just business as usual.
Jill, I can understand your old boss being miffed that it was taken from him/her, but I would have thought this could only be a big movie couldn’t it? I would have thought it would need a big star at least.
At least Craig is good at accents though eh?
Why so many giant producers?? It better be good- and make $$$ cause most of it will go to them!
Yeah, I can see him with a cowboy hat on.
Downey Jr. is a much better actor than Craig. You can’t compare the two. I was sold by his performance in A Scanner Darkly. His portrayal of Philip K. Dick’s character James Barris is pure genius, and that’s just one of the many great performances by Downey Jr.
Whatever movie Daniel Craig stars in is bound to be a huge hit, I for one will be queuing to see it at the cinema. Daniel has proven himself time and time again that he’s not your stereotypical Bond, although it has to be said he is the best one yet. Good Luck Daniel.
RDJ is awesome but I think Daniel Craig as a cowboy will be more interesting
I can’t wait to see Daniel again.I bet he will do a great work as always.I really think he can do any character, he has the talent and the looks.I would love to see him as Vincent van Gogh, he would be perfect for the role.
