I guess Metallica wasn’t available. But Marvel Studios and Columbia Records today annouced a collaboration between AC/DC and IRON MAN 2, the sequel to the 2008 blockbuster film. In addition, Columbia Records will release the album AC/DC: Iron Man 2 on Monday, April 19th, featuring 15 classic AC/DC songs selected from 1976 to 2008. Pre-orders begin today. Also today is the debut video from the cut “Shoot To Thrill” which was filmed live last month in Buenos Aires during AC/DC’s Black Ice World Tour, and which also incorporates exclusive footage from IRON MAN 2. The film opens internationally beginning on April 28 and in the U.S. on May 7. Here are all the AC/DC songs on the soundtrack: Shoot to Thrill, Rock ‘N’ Roll Damnation, Guns for Hire, Cold Hearted Man, Back in Black, Thunderstruck, If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It), Evil Walks, T.N.T., Hell Ain’t a Bad Place to Be, Have a Drink on Me, The Razor’s Edge, Let There Be Rock, War Machine, Highway to Hell.

Any regular music follower knows that “Iron Man” is one of the quintessential AC/DC songs. Hence the prime choice of AC/DC and not Metalica for the “Iron Man 2″ soundtrack…
yeah…it’s really not. “Iron Man” was by Black Sabbath.
Always has been, too.
Come on man, this is “music 101″ stuff.
I hope you’re joking.
Seriously?
“Iron Man” is some of AC/DC’s best work!! It really is sad though, that IM2 couldn’t get Metalica to perform their signature “Smoke on the Water” or even the far lesser known “Yellow Submarine” — two essentials in any bull s#%$ nightmare collection.
Obviously AC/DC was the better choice, obviously.
at least the maximum overdrive soundtrack had a couple new tunes…
Thanks for the info Nikke. I’m a huge AC/DC fan so I will be looking forward to the release of the soundtrack.
So wait, Iron Man 2 is actually Maximum Overdrive 2?
“Shoot To Thrill” one of the most underrated of all rock and roll songs.
Uh… Iron Man is a Black Sabbath song, not AC/DC. I would guess this partnership has more to do with the fact that Back In Black was used prominently in the first Iron Man movie. When trying to be a music snob, get your facts straight first.
Yeah, and Shoot to Thrill was used in the Iron Man 2 teaser. I agree with Bill, very underrated song.
Um, Iron Man is a Black Sabbath song. And, actually, early Metallica would fit really well with the movie. Especially Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets.
Metalicca joke? Really? AC/DC is good. Metalicca is not, and hasn’t been since the 80′s. Come on Nikki.
AC/DC rocks! Thank god they didn’t hand over the job to Metallica…
But I’m with the previous poster — would like to have had a few new tunes a la Maximum Overdrive. There are enough BEST OF collections already out there.
AC/DC? It’s 20-fucking-10 people! They wore out their welcome 25 years ago, or 30 if you go back to when they were a novelty. Why can’t a movie that uses cutting edge CGI spend a little time trying to find some cutting edge sound? I don’t want my rockers to be bald, thank you very much.
funny – i thought of Iron Man when AC/DC played “War Machine” at the Forum. makes sense to have AC/DC music in this film. i can’t wait!!
I think jnw was being sarcastic.
Metallica has always been a little too serious for a comic book movie, while Black Sabbath never had enough commercial hits with one recognizable singer/voice/frontman to risk putting anything more than a single song on a big money franchise like this. AC/DC is such a perfect choice, on the other hand. One of the grestest marketing tools here will be a greatest hits album by AC/DC – they’ve had so many commercial hits, and you’ve always had to buy individual albums or steal the songs off the internet to get them. Brilliant piece of marketing for the film, and excellent packaging for the band. Some record exec just figured out how to make money again.
some exec figured this out in 1986…and at least he gave us a couple new tunes along with the hits on that outing. related note: would love to see ac/dc contribute a handful of instrumental cues in addition to the use of “thrill”
to clarify, AC/DC has sold more albums than the Rolling Stones, Madonna, Mariah Carey and Michael Jackson.
Having said that…this decision has Faverau written all over it, and for all the right reasons. God bless him.
“Have a Drink On Me”, please put the booze down… AC/DC has not sold more albums than Michael Jackson. Not by a long shot. MJ has sold about 400 Million more records than AC/DC. The only artists that have sold more than MJ are the Beatles and Elvis and they had about a 20yr start.
Actually to clarify everything, AC/DC has the highest amount of albums sold by a band, period thats fact. Michael jackson is a solo artist, not a band. The album that they have the highest ever albums sold by a band is Back in Back, debate all u wont on it but it is fact and proven, just go on the net and u will see for ur self.
“As of 2008, AC/DC have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide,[5] including 71 million albums in the United States.[6] Back in Black has sold an estimated 45 million units worldwide, making it the highest-selling album by any band”

Great. Now I’ll have to throw out my “Maximum Overdrive” soundtrack.
Strange they didn’t record new songs. Still cool, though! This movie looks really great! Black widow! YES!
Favreau is so money he doesn’t even know it. I’ve seen AC/DC twice and it isn’t nearly enough. Wonderful choice for the franchise.
The Thor film would do well to follow suit with a CD full of classic 70′s heavy metal, leading off with Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song”.
