UPDATES Disney Shows Daniel Battsek The Door
I don’t have any official confirmation yet. But my sources tell me that Miramax president Daniel Battsek has landed. He has been in quiet negotiations to assume the top post at National Geographic Films because Adam Leipzig, who has been president for the past six years, wants to leave to return to his producing roots. And my sources say Battsek has just closed the deal to become president of National Geographic Films. Leipzig, who is staying until mid-March, leaves behind a rich legacy in addition to the 2nd highest grossing documentary of all time March Of The Penguins which he bought for $1 million. Leipzig will be producing for National Geographic Films, of course. Battsek is a great piece of manpower and I’m glad he snagged his new job so quickly after Disney eviscerated Miramax.

Nat Geo is fantastically lucky to snag Battsek as well as push out Adam Leipzig. Good work on both counts.
Since no one knows who you are your nasty comment concerning pushing out Leipzig is not only uncalled for but unnecessary and rude. I have worked with Adam and also know Battsek. They are both individually good guys who will continue to have long careers in the business. BTW, Leipzig was also part of the Nat Geo team that brought in AMREEKA which went on to deliver some good box office figures and a Best Pic Spirit nod.
Also find that remark about Adam Leipzig staggeringly sneaky and unfair. He’s possibly THE most down-to-earth exec. producer in LA, and razor sharp intellectually to boot. All through the doc and indie community he’s known for taking meetings with new writers and directors when others at his level won’t. NGF was very lucky to have him, he’ll be missed.
