ok..it was funny.. but are we really forgiving Mel?
He apologized several times and it’s been years, so what harm does forgiveness do?
Hollywood is a very forgiving place. Worse drunks/addicts have been forgiven. Far worse criminal acts have been forgiven. People that named names during the HUAC hearings have been forgiven. It would seem pretty hypocritical, not to mention petty, to say “Hollywood will forgive anything, except for saying something insane about one specific religion. That is just too much.”
Are you so without sin that you are unwilling to forgive someone? Try living in the public eye and see how well it goes after almost 30 years.
Yes, we are forgiving him.
Its great that Gibson is back. He has been a terrific leading man for years and still has all the fire and more. I don’t care one iota if he is an antisemite or a hemaphrodite. Thats his business and it has to do with his conditioning.
But in closeup in his genre, no one does better and he fills a huge vacuum amongst the new generation of milksops and posing nancy-boys. I wouldn’t want to hang out with the guy as I find all his nervous ticks and insistences weird and pushed. But on camera he’s great and I love that he is back playing his hand and standing forth.
I hope Mel is game for resurrecting that character if Ben Stiller ever does a sequel to TROPIC THUNDER. That was classic!
Gibson is one of those talents that can get away with murder. He’s just got so much charisma and i so likable that people forget his antics pretty quickly. This Kimmel bit is terrific, and it’s stuff like this that will keep Gibson from ever becoming too creepy. I love the dude, even as weird as he is, and I think he’s still got a long career ahead of him.
“ok..it was funny.. but are we really forgiving Mel?”
Oh did Mel do something to you personally that you need to forgive him for?
People’s righteous indignation is really amazing in this day and age.
Hilarious. Love Mel and am glad he is back.
And if anyone has NEVER made a prejudiced, off-color, or racist comment, then cast the first stone, otherwise, stfu.
Everyone deserves to move on and be forgiven.
Clearly, Mel Gibson is trying to rehabilitate his image by being “approachable” and “funny” on a talk show. That said, his jumpy, edgy demeanor while being interviewed by Kimmel, and his frankly disturbing faux-bio only reinforce, for me, what a disturbed individual he is. He’s so full of hate and anger it comes out even in this context. He’s a creepy, scary man!
Buddhabob – It’s “his business” whether he is an antisemite. Really? So antisemitism is a personal prerogative and acceptable as such, like a lifestyle choice. And if one is “conditioned” a certain way, one is blameless, helpless – so much for personal identity. Nice get-out-of-jail-free-card you’ve given him. With his self-righteousness and inability to take responsibility for his actions and his toxic opinions, Gibon would like your reasoning.
Well, it’s my business not to see any movie with Gibson in front of or behind the camera. It’s my business not further his business. I only hope others agree.
@ELLEN would you explain your comment further…? You appear to know something more….
Why the continued personal attacks at Mr. Gibson’s character on most blogs and news reports on him?
I’ve heard that he made a few politically incorrect comments while being hauled off to jail for “drunk” driving. Im suggesting, it would have been a very humiliating and unusual place for an A-list movie star to find themselves, and a scenario that would tend to incite humiliating and unusual behavior from someone who was an actor by trade. Perhaps, the policemen playing the roles of the good guys by removing an unsafe driver from the roadways, left Mr. GIbson with no choice, but to play the role of the villain in the scenario? Why judge his words and actions at a time, that he was obviously impaired, and not clear minded enough to drive a car? The man is an iconic huge talent in his generation, but he’s still human. At this point in time, does he really deserve more reminders of his bad behavior, while a victim of alcohol many years ago?
@MR. GIBSON, MR. KIMMEL & THIER RESPECTIVE ENTOURAGES
TRULY, ENJOYED THE SHORT. VERY FUNNY!
I personally don’t care too much for gibson’s work but this was just plain funny.
Man, you can just see all the insecurity and anger oozing out of the guy in the guest’s chair. Looks like he thinks someone’s about to do a root canal on him.
Based on the last thread, I am sure the haters will come out of the woodwork, but this was FREAKING FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go Mel!!! Like a previous poster said, Mel is not a nancy-boy like most of Hollywood. He is going to come back with a vengeance…
I forgot how funny Gibson is! Good stuff
What a twitch fest when he was being interviewed. Squirm addict squirm!
Is anyone else noticing Mel’s weird speaking mannerisms lately? It’s like he’s constantly twitchy and chewing on his words..leaving off the last syllable of every multi-syllable word almost.
Bigot, racist, and hypocrite. This guy needs to crawl back under his rock and leave the rest of us evolved humans alone.
Wow, they’re both pathetic.
i don’t really care what he said about the Jews. who really cares? get the eff over it. that shit was hilarious!!!
Mel is great. Good to see him back.
Its amazing how selective the Politically correct crowd is with their anger. Say the most hateful things about Christians, White people, Southerners, Mormons, etc… & and no one bats an eye.
If we forgive Elvis Costello and Dr. Dre for the crap they have done, we can forgive Mel.
