The CBS Films/Sony Pictures drama Faster didn’t start production quick enough to keep Salma Hayek who dropped out a week before shooting begins February 8th. Filmmakers will move fast to recast for the George Tillman Jr.-directed script from Tony and Joe Gayton that puts Dwayne Johnson back into action mode. Robert Teitel is producing with Castle Rock’s Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer.

all great people working on this, especially Bob and George. Good guys. Am rooting for you.
Great script. Totally miscast with The Rock. Maybe Salma was right to get out. Casting Billy Bob as the Cop is perfect. But The Rock as The Driver — completely wrong. “Steve McQueen on steroids” — not The Rock. They should have cast Tom Hardy. And Cillian Murphy as The Killer. Whoever they have as The Killer — whoever that dude is doesn’t seem right either. Salma might have done the right thing here.
How about a new Latin face… someone sexy and who can act… no Eva Mendes, please dear God!
Mendes, Braga, Leon, Varela, Dawson… they’ll find someone good, cheap and local I am sure. Besides, Hayek is super rich and has become way too much of a diva. She’s like the Asian girl from “Memoirs of a Geisha”, once you latch onto the money then no film (not in the current economic climate) that doesn’t get you award consideration seems worth doing.
I guess marrying a billionaire means you can be much choosier about the roles you take.
OR, being a legitimate star…
When you’ve been nominated for an Oscar as an actor & producer, EP’d a hit TV show & in demand as all of the above, then maybe you can talk. Until then, enjoy your cold, bitter cup of STFU.
I vote for KATE DEL CASTILLO to replace Salma. She’s a HUGE Latina talent and extremely well know outside of the States. She was great in WEEDS last season.
re: C4x comment: her career isn’t exactly sizzling these days and depending on your definition of ‘a star’–that usually means a box office draw, which she is not.She is a good actress for sure, but she does not put butts in seats, as they say.
Michelle Rodriguez would be a draw, post-Avatar
I like those guys too (State Street) hope they get someone great.
You guys are such cynics. She had to drop out due to a conflict, not because she’s a billionaire diva with eyes on an Oscar.
Heaven forbid they ever cast The Rock with a Black Actress. Think about it Dwayne …
You’re hilarious! I’m still laughing.
Let’s be honest… none of the actresses mentioned in these postings are near the level or talent of Salma Hayek, an Oscar AND Emmy nominated actress whose beauty and grace are unparalleled. As for the rest of those names:
Eva Mendes – A one note actress whose been overused in these types of roles
Alice Braga – A decent actress with modest looks, but has yet to show she can hold the big screen
Andrea Leon – Has the sex appeal and talent, but not the star value
Leonor Varela – Fading looks and fading career in desperate need of a comeback role
Kate del Castillo – She was good in “Under the Same” moon, but has the worse set of fake boobs in Hollywood
The only one who comes close is Rosario Dawson, who I’d love to see in more roles no matter how popcorn-like the movie is. She is sexy, smart and talented. I hope they land her.
What about that bit of delicious from Modern Family, Sofia Vergara?
She’s certainly hot right now & has the comedy chops to go up against DJ.
That I would see. & I’ve NEVER seen, let alone gone to a theatre to see a DJ movie.
Um, could it be because Salma saw how the last movie CBS Films flick churned out (that atrocious piece of garbage with old coot Harrison Ford)? Or the fact playing second fiddle to the talentless Dwayne Johnson in a dumb ass action flick isn’t exactly worthy of anyone’s time?
Well you people think that just because she says no to a project that means that she’s a Diva. You don’t know if she already had something else and they pushed the shooting for later and she was not able to dot that. But yet again you are haters. She is a great actor!!!!
Maybe one of you ladies can make the cut.
Salma Hayek rules!!
Does anyone know when a casting call will be held for the role of “Jorge”, the cop’s 9year ole son?
