UPDATES SHOCKER! Shia LaBeouf Leaves WME
Mike Fleming reports: Hollywood’s hottest young actor shocked the town last December when he left WME, with sources at the time telling Nikki Finke that he planned to go without an agent (like his role model Leo DiCaprio) and rely only on his manager John Crosby and attorney Matt Saver. Well, Shia has changed his mind and signed with CAA partner Richard Lovett. LaBeouf recently wrapped Oliver Stone’s Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps, which opens in April. He’ll likely start work in May on Transformers 3.

good for Shia, Shia will be one of the biggest stars of his generation.
smart move. shia makes enough to keep Lov on the ball and actively working for him. I bet CAA will be able to get his indies made…
Did anybody really buy the “no agent” thing? Come on.
The confusing part is why – what wasn’t WME getting him that he wants? He’s the (human) lead of one of the business’s biggest franchises, is Spielberg’s golden boy, just did WALL STREET, etc…
HAAHHH!!! Shia pulled a fast one on em’…thats what WME deserves! Those agents have their heads so far up their asses. At least CAA does a little work for their clients. I hope more of their A-listers leave that shit hole so they can re-asses & come back down to reality.
what a douchebag…after Silverman makes him a star, he dumps her? typical of hollywood celebrities – they have absolutely no decency as human beings…turns out celebrities (even young ones) are the same as agents…only thing in mind is money….i’ve lost any respect i had for this guy…not that i had much anyways he’s not that talented.
Come on, tone down the rhetoric. You have no idea what was going on in their relationship over the long haul, much less on a day to day basis. Before you’re so quick to judge someone, why not look in the mirror and ask yourself why you need to write such an asinine post on an anonymous board.
Couldn’t agree more “Schnipple”.
Hey “Anonymous”. These guys come and go. When (if) you rise above assistant you will experience first hand. Clients leave. The happiest clients (or so you thought) that were attendees at your wedding leave. And believe me, you won’t be this sympathetic when you are the one signing the exiter.
Calm down or get out. We think you might be in the wrong business…
I agree with Mr.Schnipple(not to be confused with Mr. Whipple).
This is show business not show friends! Anyone with a brain understands, you go where the money is good, not where you are liked.
I am baffled when people moan and groan about an actor or ball player who makes a couple of bucks on a contract.
Not a word when the CEO of EXXON makes 400 million dollars in a year.
Grow up. This world is about profit.
Politics is a smoke screen and a distraction.
I agree how ungrateful of Shia. Shia must think tht he is big **** now.
Megan went above and beyond the call of duty for Shia. She deserves far better than this. I hope she chewed Crosby out, he is spineless. And No, I don’t work for Megan, or at WME, I just call them like I see them. And if you’re reading this Shia I hope you realize how classless this is given what Megan has done for you.
Wow, you think an agent makes someone a star?
I swear, hollywood agents assistants posting cry baby nonsense on blogs is getting more and more tiresome.
Top 2% baby, top 2%.
Welcome aboard Mike. This site just got a whole lot more legit.
There are just some people in this business that no matter how good of a job you are doing for them, they’ll always be unhappy. he’s one of those people.
What can CAA do for Shia that WME could not???
Over promise and under deliver.
CAA does the BEST signing meetings in town. However, all fluff no stuff.
They’ll deliver SOMETHING and take full advantage (and credit) of Shia’s momentum but, to answer your question, at Shia’s level, there’s not a whole lot that CAA can do that WME could not.
Isn’t Richard Lovett Steven Spielberg’s agent as well?? I assume that will only streamline the Spielberg-Labeouf collaborations for the future–especially with Spielberg serving as a producer more often these days. Regardless, I’m just happy that Shia had the good sense to not go agentless, especially at this transitional point in his career.
No indies or no undies. You know those CAA boys
I don’t get it. What does this mean?
Let’s see, do I want a Ferrari or a circus clown car? Seems like a no brainer.
Can we just clarify something once and for all: Shai LaPoof is NOT a star. The bloke couldn’t open a film if his life depended on it. A headless chicken could topline Transformers and the fanbois would line up around the block to see it. And the sooner Steve gets over his horrible fascination with him the better for all of us.
our business if filled to the brim with malcontents, both on the agency and talent side. there is no expiration date, nor any age limit, to these kinds of sad partings. as a longtime observer of the representation business, the only thing that is surprising about this move is…exactly nothing. i truly feel bad for megan, she’s a classy, beautiful, hard working lady, and she did a fantastic job for this weird, oedipal hebrew-haired twerp. sadly, everybody fires their agent or manager, or every agent or manager dumps their clients. these are not friends, they are not loyal and they don’t have each others’ back, no matter what you think. it is a jungle, and it is filled with impressionable, demented, exploited animals in very expensive clothes. it is what it is.
Figures. I knew it from the start…”No agent.” Haha. He was planning to go over to CAA from the start. Everybody’s signed up with CAA.
good move…shia’s 15 minutes are just about up…he will need an agent, what if spielberg is unable to get him work?
So much for being the next Leo, in more ways than one.
CAA = Collecting All Actors. (Ithink they keep them in mylar bags)
i am confused about all of this agency stuff,is this decison a good one in the way he can make more independent films instead of the blockbuster films. i have read this is better for shia so he can do more indie films. is that true?
After I-Robot Will Smith encouraged CAA to sign Shia because he knew the kid would be a star. They supposedly balked at a proposed 5 percent share with his youth agency in the valley.
Now Sony should hand him the Spiderman franchise. Shia is Hollywood’s Franchise Prince.
Agents have multiple clients as a hedge, an actor only has him or herself. No sympathy for a big 5 agent who loses a client. Being an agent is a less risky endeavor, inherently. Good luck to Shia wherever he wants to be.
WME- what goes around comes around. I am sure more will take Shia’s lead and leave the dark side.
I am shocked he didn’t go to UTA. Shocked.
He should probably start looking for a back up manager as well, that Crosby is about one Martini away from a heart attack. He so clearly orchestrated this whole thing, Shia doesn’t have the capacity to make any of these decisions.
Loyalty. Well, lets face it, there is very little of that in this business at the best of times. Nobody really knows what was going on here except Silverman and Shia. We do know that many clients are easily turned by promises of 1,000 virgins waiting on the other side…that’s showbiz.
