Add Sean Bailey to the candidate names making the rounds of Hollywood to replace ousted Oren Aviv as Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production president. Naturally, Disney is officially mute on the subject. But Bailey already has been fully engaged on the studio lot, producing the Joe Kosinski-directed Tron Legacy. That has been his biggest project since he left Live Planet, the production partnership with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Chris Moore. Where is Jason Reed in this mix? He is a true leader within the corporation- knows every aspect of the company, and gets story/movies/the Disney brand to boot… Not to mention he’s amazing to deal with and he’s seen what works in the past 5 regimes and has show loyalty to each and the co.
Great choice. Sean is a stand up guy with great creative instincts superb taste and a good handle on the town.
Go Diego Go, I mean Go Sean Go. Great guy, good taste, easy to work with. BUT if they would go with Sean, why not go with a more internal superstar like Jason Reed, who knows the system backwards and forwards? I get confised sometimes keeping up and making sense of the replacement game. Any help?
I’ve heard Jason Reed’s name pop up in this context as well. Dunno.
Why put the smartest most professional guy on the lot in charge?
That’s just not how Hollywood works.
The fact that Reed wasn’t instantly bumped to that spot makes one really wonder what’s going through Ross’ head.
Boy, Jason Reed and his PR team are in full effect here. Guys, a little modesty–you’re coming off a little desperate.
Jason’s approach to film making is to throw everything at the wall and see what sticks. For every hit he’s made, there has been even worse bombs.
Remember the Alamo.
Sean would be FANTASTIC. Great guy, very creative, energetic, and incredibly easy to work with. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone as universally loved at Disney.
Jason is an expert at navigating the Disney system, and in some ways would be a logical choice. He’s worked with Rich Ross and Gary Marsh on Hannah Montana and HSM3–although his relationship with both seemed contentious, and he often bitched about the “fucking morons at the Channel”. Jason has been a loyalist for years, and he was screwed out of taking better opportunities when Dick and Nina convinced him to stay with empty promises (and sometimes threats). He knows the Disney brand. He knows the corporate culture. He’s been the guy in charge of dealing with Bruckheimer, which really means talking to Chad and Mike versus The Man himself. And I feel kind of bad for Jason–he deserved a shot at the Oren job when Nina was pushed out. Or he deserved a shot at running Miramax. Despite his recent track record with really shitty movies like G-Force and Shopaholic, Jason does actually have good taste. But instead of ascending, he’s quietly become an expert in navigating Disney. Oren masterfully manipulated his colleagues to his own benefit, but Jason seems to actually employ his bureaucratic skills for the good of his projects. If he doesn’t get the job, I can’t imagine he’ll want to stay at Disney after having been passed over so many times.
Anyone who saw the original season of “Project Greenlight” will recall Sean Bailey as a humorless, not-very-bright functionary. . .in short, he’s a shoo-in.
