This is hilarious. I’ve learned that a slew of Kristen Stewart fans somehow got the personal e-mails of Sundance buyers who were circling her Jake Scott-directed film Welcome To The Rileys. In their avalanche of messages, twitters and texts, the Twihards are imploring the execs to buy and release the film starring the Twilight Saga heroine — or at least get them DVDs of the pic. Among the surprised execs is Sony Pictures Classics’ Michael Barker. The film is geared to an adult audience, but the filmmakers keep seeing mobs of young faces at every screening. (UPDATE: The fans say they are adults, not teens.) Three buyers are said to be circling, but no word yet if they are being swayed, or just annoyed, by the email campaign. UTA is shopping the movie, which also stars James Gandolfini. No reports so far of Sopranos fans muscling buyers on his behalf.

It is not fair to say that Kristen has anything with this.
This started in the WTTR’s IMDB forum.
Most of the fans that did this are adults, not teens, from all over the world and not a Twilight’ fan.
Some of them already watched the movies in Sundance and want to watch this again. Some, like me, are fans of Kristen, before Twilight mania, and are from another countries.
Melissa Leo, Kristen Stewart and James Gandolfini are amazing actors and most of the projects that they are involved are good. They are a reference for me.
I read an old script, I saw the trailer and it is amazing. The silence with a little notes of music, the good and solid text, Kristen saying everything with her face and body expression and James given his lines.
Yes! I want to watch it!
Although I didn’t participated of the movement and I don’t approve this email’s war, I am with them!
I am not a Twilight’s fan but I love “cinema” and everything linked to it. I have 49 years old and I am from Brazil.
Dear Mr. Fleming,
Thank you for your interest in the Campaign to bring Welcome to the Rileys to the local movie theates. However, I am appalled with your generalization that Kristen Stewart fans are mostly teenagers. What are you basing this assumption? The age group of Twilight and Kristen Stewart fans is not just teen age range. I am personally over the age of 18 and I know a lot of her fans that are over the age of 18. Kristen is part of a very popular franchise movie, but that’s not the only movie she has done. We love her in Speak, Panic Room, Cake Eaters, Into the Wild, Adventureland and all her other movies.
This column is very popular and has a lot of influence in the business. It is a shame that this article went out with inaccurate information about the demographics of Kristen Stewart fans based on pure assumption and no real hard facts.
Rileys Rebels
Jas
and all this comments Nikki, are twihards twlling you they are NOT twihards. ROTF.
Rileys Rebels. Oh dear Lord.
i want to watch this movie, and i have 17 years old. and i think that a graet part of the fans of Kstew have my age! so thats no problem of the film pass at the movie theather!
we are NOT ALL LITTLE TEENS!
I’m 19 & my friends who sent those emails are above 20!
I definitely agree with some of the other commenters when I say that the majority of Kristen/Twilight fans ARE NOT TEENS. If people would stop trying to generalize us as such and would actually research the topic, they would find that I’m accurate in my estimation that teens most likely make up less than 25% of the entire fan base.
Some of us don’t understand Kristen Stewart (or Rob Pattinson for that matter) because of their highly contradictory personalities. Don’t want fame, interview extremely badly (Kristen looks stoned/high in most of the interviews I’ve seen). Can’t string a sentence together. They find fame a burden… picked the wrong industry to be in then didn’t they, try stacking shelves in Walmart or serving burgers at McDonalds, that’s the way to stay anonymous.
With any aspect of the entertainment industry comes fans and fame whether it’s 15 minutes or 50 years. I’m sick of watching halfwits who only seem to be able to speak coherently when they’ve got a script to follow. I won’t go and watch a film because Kristen Stewart is in it or promoting it, because nobody would ever watch her films on the back of her interviews.
These people need to understand that the fans pay their wages and take a leaf out of the books of such actors like Tom Cruise who will take a 2-3 hour walkabout at premieres to spend time with the fans who made him who he is, (and bulked up his bank balance) instead of constantly hiding behind security and disappearing after 15 minutes because they “don’t understand” the hysteria or “can’t cope” with the pressures of fame.
I will watch WTTR if it is distributed but not because I want to see KS’s half naked “boy body”, but because the story appeals to me and James Gandolfini is an actor whom I have respected for time immemorial.
I watched Into the Wild a couple of weeks ago when it was on Sky. Emile Hirsh was phenomenal and in my view delivered an Oscar winning performance. Kristen Stewart was in it for 20 minutes and spent the whole time adding to her typecasting as a “gagging for it little whore” sat in her trailer in virginal (ha!) white vest and knickers with her legs open and ready. Seems WTTR isn’t much different but if she intends to carry on doing films where she is always overtly sexualising the teens of America, (doesn’t she start pushing for sex even in Eclipse if the book is anything to go by) it’s time she had her tits done so at least there is something to sexualise instead of looking like a rent boy with hair.
Personally I love the Sundance Festival for showcasing films that might never otherwise get seen but KS is starting to sully the “Indie” film industry with bad soft porn or attempts at it.
Sorry people but just had to get that “off my (ample) chest”
Han,
Please keep your insulting personal attacks to yourself. You need a reality check.
Kristen Stewart is an actress, she did not write the parts she portrays. If anything you should take issue with the people who write the parts in movies as “always overtly sexualising the teens of America”.
Just so you know, it’s not Kristen personally pushing for sex in Eclipse, it is the character of Bella, who is not a real person.
You do not know Kristen so do not pretend that you know what she is thinking.
As far as comparing her to Tom Cruise and fans, did you know that when a fan was told by an aide at the New Moon premiere that she could not take a picture with Kristen, Kristen said: Hell, yeah she can take a picture with me”. Did you know that at Sundance at the premiere of The Runaways, Kristen was the last one who stayed with fans taking pictures and signing autographs and had to be pulled away by security.
Kristen has received nothing but praise by her fellow actors, producers, writers, all industry professionals.
I am going to quote Roger Ebert here. Of the Runaways: “Kristen Stewart proves once again that she’s a rising star.” On WTTR: “Kristen Stewart here is tougher even than her punk rocker in “The Runaways.” Who knew she had these notes? I’m discovering an important new actress.”
I don’t pretend to understand Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson or Tom Cruise, but I at least have respect for them and will not resort to insulting name calling. You need to grow up.
Sorry people but I just had to get that “off my boy chest”.
I am a KS fan, 50+ years, small chested and know a movie role from reality, obviously some people here don’t.
First of all, we are not Twilight fans. We are Kristen fans. Second of all, the producer of the film ASKED us to e-mail the distributors to let them know how much we wanted the movie to be theatrically released. Third, most of Kristen’s fans are 18+, including myself.
I’m in my 40′s. But I am a fan of Kristen and love to see her movie “Welcome to the Rileys”. The End.
I still don’t get it with the assumption all kristen fan is under age, is it because of the “scream” and “craving” etc, refer to teen behaviour? I mean you guys are intelligent so please don’t just jump to that conclusion..do some research first..isn’t that what they teach you in college? and why people are so focus with the “stripper issue” anyway..I believe that’s not the movie all about..its awakening story for all people..and its around you.
I’m 28 years old, and its hard for me to admit it in here..because I stop counting when I’m 25 *lol*..and I never thought..even the slightest one that I’m gonna proudly say it to people..but hey..i’m 28..old enough to watch WTTR..yay for me!!
I didn’t send email but I totally understands their enthusiasm and hope I could see WTTR soon this year.
LOL, the Twi-hags are coming out of the wordwork now! And now they’re SELF-DENYING Twi-hags? I guess because it’s becoming as uncool to like Twilight as it became to like Titanic? Yeah, I’m sure none of the Kristen Stewart fans posting here will be lined up to see Twilight 3 at the midnight showing. And they’re claiming they were fans of Kristen Stewart before she did Twilight? Even based on ADVENTURELAND, a movie that barely sold more than 2 million tickets in North America. That’s like someone saying they were a Mark Hamill fan before Star Wars…or even knew who he was. Not bloody likely.
Eric, you get it all wrong….
No one of this people here are saying that wouldn’t go and watch Twilight3. We are saying that the media and probably the marketing has a wrong image of the all the people that read the books and that went to watch the movies are 13 years old fanatics.
First, Twilight is for just entertainment like Titanic, Star War, Star Trek, Avatar, Batman, Spiderman, all the films based in games, Harry Potter and much others. The original Twilight”s readers are not teens, I can garanty you, because Stephenie didn’t wrote it for teens. Stephenie is an adult woman writing for adult women like many many others like Sandra Brown, Suzanne Brockmann, Linda Howard, Catherine Couter and the autor of the books that “Bones” TV series is based on. Ok! Twilight is a love story with a fiction element(vampires)but it is a love story.
The vampire element probably incentived the editors to make a market strategy for teens also because the sucess of TV series based on it. But you know what?… Go to sites like Tvrage.com, TV.com, ShareTV.org and ask the people there their ages and see the list of series that they watch regularly. You will see that they are all adults keeping their inner child alive, they everything that is good from The Sopranos to True Blood, from Sex and City to Supernaural.
The same person can read Balsac’s Human Comedy and the Twilight Saga. The same person that like to watch films by Bergman, Fellini, Costa Cravas, Scorcese, Spilberg also can watch English comedies and james Cameron’s fiction.
We are people from all the world that love a good story, love acting, love movies in general. Sometimes just to laugh, sometimes to think and have a good time with friend discuting the film, the direction, the soundtrack and the acting.
Now for Mrs Stewart be a good actor or not, you can have your opinion but I agree with Sean Penn, Jodie Foster, Melissa Leo, Sandra Bullock, Kate Bosworth, Bruce Dern, Mary Stuart Masterson, David Fincher and the director of Speak, Forest Whitaker, Emile Hirsch, some others, that Kristen Stewart is an actor, a movies actor. She is good, she has something different, she is not there for the fame, she is there for the craft, like Jodie Foster was and certain nether Dakota Fanning and Abigail Breslin. They born this way.
Mary Streep is extremelly shy and also has difficults to express her fellings in a interview and no one think bad of her and neither she was over exposed for the media in the way that Kristen has been. Kristen is very young and just need some time.
It is important to say that Kristen only accept parts that she feels that she can bring to life. She was invited by Catherine, because Emile Hirsch said to Catherine that she was the right actor to be Bella. She was the first to be casted and helped to cast others. Some of the actors in the project already said that they only were interested in be in Twilight, because of Kristen and Catherine, because if they were involved in the project, Twilight would be serious acting based in a book and not some sort of teenage’s trash movie.
So don’t padronize the Kristen Stewart’s fan base or neither the Welcome to the Rileys’s.
I couldn’t get past the first paragraph, don’t compare the movies you mentioned with Twilight. And YES, it was written for the YA crowd, and, it reads like one. Mrs Meyer is not a good writer, at all. The books were an easy, unintelligent, poor adaptation of a romantic novel. The script was even worse. The actors were not good enough to elevate bad material. Everything else is in your head. Not to offend anyone, but any women, who goes ga ga over twilight and the young Actors, should really take a good look at their life and see what is missing.
the reason she is still in the acting business is because she really ENJOYS it(not to mention they keep calling her back)-she’s said so in interviews- so when you ask why she hides from cameras and acts like fame is a “burden”, it’s because that’s all a part of being famous and she’s not in it for that she has said there’s nothing desirable to being a celebrity. everyone copes with things differently and the fact that she hasn’t succumbed to Hollywood’s glare just makes her another person-love her or hate her-I’m sure she doesn’t care but your comments make you out to be someone too judgmental to sympathize with others.. and wtf are you judging her role choices for?(w/e)BTW Kristen appreciates her fans so don’t compare her with fame whores like tom cruise who “will take a 2-3 hour walkabout at premieres to spend time with the fans” -he loves feeding his enormous ego
Where were all these rabid Kristen Stewart fans when ADVENTURELAND came out? Just askin’.
Han, please don’t lump Robert Pattinson in with Kristen as far as being ungrateful and acting burdened by fame. While Kristen has been in the business for years and should have her act together at this point, she can bearly put a sentence together, whines incessantly about how hard her life is now that she’s famous and acts like an ungrateful spoiled brat. Frankly, it’s tiring to listen to and even more tiring that the media packages these two as one entity these days. Robert Pattinson has never once complained about his lot in life; if anything, he’s terribly gracious and very grateful and always ready to answer any question as deeply and thoughtfully as possible. It’s just not fair to assign Kristen’s shortcomings to this man who has had it 1000x harder than Kristen has the past year. Rob deserves the good things that are happening in his life and he is very thankful for them and shows that over and over again. He is never rude nor short with the press, he always gives his all and he’s 100% pro when working and promoting his films. He’s a good guy and the only bad thing that’s happened to him is having Kristen’s rude and bratty ways somehow transferred to him just due to the fact that they are friends and co-workers. Robert Pattinson is not a package deal with Kristen Stewart; he is singular and deserves to be analyzed that way. It’s one thing to call Kristen ungrateful and rude which she truly can be at times, but to say anything like that about Rob is just blatantly untrue and undeserved.
why are you retards here to bash kristen and stick up for robert she won the crits not robert you know you sound like a person with a hate problem just because you don’t like someone you feel you have a right to bash them i have had enough of the sick hateful people who never have anything good to say about a person
all you doing is making her even more famous good or bad every comment make her more in the new more in demand. people i don’t like i don’t coment on them i go on to the next blog.
I guess you know by now i am a kstew fan, well over 18
Cassidy, Please don’t belittle Kristen because you love Robert. Praise him all you like but stop making assumptions on Kristen’s character. I watch all her interviews and I see a diff. person than what you see, I guess because I love her and u hate her, so different! I love Rob too but w/ fans like u who wants them.
Dear Han…
interesting little tid bit you wrote. In saying that, i TOTALLY…disagree with your ideas of Ms Stewart. You base your whole assumption of a 19year old girl on her performances in movies and in interviews when you have NO IDEA what her work ethic is like in making those movies. I don’t know either, and if i didn’t i probably wouldn’t be sticking up for her. Hence the fact that i actually researched about her. I read articles, watched interviews, and even watched some of her movies. I gotta say, theres a reason why critics LOVE her work and why fans adore her…hence this whole email saga!…But what makes you think she doesn’t appreciate the opportunities that shes been given. Because i certainly didn’t get that notion from her in any of her interviews. What i did get from it, is that she will never understand the point of being asked about her personal life when it has nothing to do with her movies. Pretty mature for a 19year old don’t ya think? I also read that she was nothing but wonderful to her fans, always has been and always will be. I get the impression she would rather chill with them then the media…so quit your complaining and like Kristen act mature for once instead of assuming so much about what doesn’t do that makes you green with envy!
ohhh cassidy…you will never, ever, ever get Robert Pattinson! And FYI…the dude is not exactly a saint. You act like hes freaking perfect. Please, the dude is just as flawed as everyone else on this planet. Do you know, that he actually thinks his fans are crazy. True..he says it all the time in his interviews. Yet when Kristen says it, its the end of the world for you obsessed psycho people. Anywho, i hope this movie gets distributed, wins awards just so i can see his fans squirm in their seats!!
I can’t stand Robert Pattinson fans. They make me ill, they’re sooo looney that you actually feel embarassed to know of him.
In saying that, the WTTR fans are very….anxious, wierd, crazy, and just….i have nothing! But i’ve heard a lot of good things about this film, and i will def check it out (for her butt) i mean for the performances! I LOVE James Gandolfini, that man can do no wrong in my eyes, and acting along side Kristen Stewart…hmmm…that will be very interesting…I wonder if they can tit for tat or is it tic for tac…meh, either way i hope they can work well together. Anyone that can hold their own against James is alright in my books.
Cassidy, Please don’t turn this into a robsten/nonsten deabte. This is about getting Kristen’s movie to the public and her fans (which there are many) decided to help the cause by contacting buyers. End of story. Yes Kristen can be awkward doing press. She was not awkward during New Moon promotion you’ll notice. Yes Rob is better at the Press thing than she but you can be assured he’s probably extremely proud of his girlfriend’s performances regardless and doesn’t need “fans” like you sticking up for him. He’s a big boy and can take care of himself especially when he wasn’t even being addressed as the problem your the one who had to bring him into it.
How embarrassing must it be for such a fame-dodging actress such as Stewart, to know that her film requires the intervention of the frenzied fan base just to find distribution? This all smacks of desperation. Perhaps in HW this self serving tactic by producers is considered enterprising but to those outside the fan base it cheapens not only the product but the viability of the actors attached to it.
JMB,
Thank you for your comments. As for the audience taking matters into their own hands and emailing distributors, It was not self serving for the producers as nobody involved with the film had anything to do with that.
Cheapens the product and the viability of the actors attached to it? I guarantee you that somewhere right now marketing departments are trying to figure out how to manipulate and control these large groups of young ticket buyers to get them just as excited for their next studio release.
I do not agree with the method used, but have to say bravo to the audience!! I have not heard an apology from Hollywood for bombarding the audience with advertisements and promotional branding opportunities when trying to wrestle the consumers dollar away from them when it comes to serving their own interests.
The audience just bombarded back. They are telling Hollywood what they want for a change. They did it the only way they knew how.
If I were James, Kristen, or Melissa, I would be proud that thousands of people read a script, fell in love with the story and were not going to let the film slip between the cracks without a fight!
Embarrassing to Kristen? I highly doubt it. She is as proud of this movie as the rest of us are. Its a good film, with amazing performances.
We have several offers for distribution, but as we “the producers, as well as being the financiers” of this movie are not “smacking of desperation” We are taking our time to choose the best fit for the life of this film.
I am personally touched that this film has caused such a strong reaction in so so many.
I’m 23 and I am dying to see welome to the rileys. Wasn’t involved in any email war tho. Hadn’t even heard about it til now actually. But yeah over 18, big fan of Kristen and cannot wait to see the film when it’s released
First off I see the usual here to attack Kristen what a shocker I will ignore you and just leave you with this –> Roger Ebert on Kristen Stewart “I’m discovering an important new actress.
Mr Fleming from what i’ve seen on twitter/IMDb boards the majority of Kristen fans are not teenagers not that there is anything wrong with that but the Twilight thing just skyrocked her career to new hights. If the campaign has a positive effect than that is wonderful.
the update is absolutely right. i am in my 30s, and i am a fan of kristen. not just because of twilight, but by what she have achieved with such a young age. her dedication to her job, sincerity to her fans, and her being lukewarm despite the fame, which makes her a standout in all glits and glamour hollywood serves.
Kristen isn’t Bella so c’mon. We arent twihards o werever, we are kristen fans and want to see Welcome to the Rileys,we love her works, talents she is great actress. I love her movies: Speak, Advertunland,The Messengers, Cake Eaters,Into the wild and the others.
Are not teens, are 18+ .Plz give us Welcome to the Rileys.
