Yawn — the White House Correspondents’ Association announced today that Jay Leno will entertain at its annual media-politics-showbiz schmoozefest in Washington DC in May. The prestigious gig caused controversy last year when Wanda Sykes was more political than funny attacking Republicans during the dinner attended by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Clearly, the group wanted a blander and therefore safer comic emcee so C-Span won’t have to use its 7-second delay button. Leno agreed earlier this month to appear at the event before NBC announced his Tonight Show do-over. This is his 4th time hosting: he headlined the 2004, 2000, and 1987 dinners during the administrations of both parties.

Sounds great. Leno will do a wonderful job. Unlike Jon Stewart who is so predictable I don’t think Jay is that guy. Whereas a Jon Stewart makes smarmy remarks, Jay Leno does not. So how he handles this dinner will be funny as well as show another side to him.
Thank you.
Actually, Jon Stewart was booked to host, but will be replaced halfway through his opening monologue by Jay Leno.
Wow, they’re just asking for the Tonight Show/Healthcare reform jokes, aren’t they?
I also wonder if the bashing he’s gotten might make him work a little edgier at the dinner. We all know that the Dems record isn’t too good with sure things from Massachusetts *rimshot*.
NOOOOOO!!
Jay needs to have support from someone….ANYONE because the low lifes that are politicians find his “humor” and tact to be acceptable.
Well, no one will leave offended. Wanna see what happens though when Jay tries to walk the dais and shake hands with everyone. Hope the secret service takes him down.
