So The $32 Million Man has signed a new employment agreement that will keep him in place as president and CEO of CBS Corp through Feb. 22, 2015. His previous contract was set to expire in 2011. Under the terms of the agreement, Moonves’ salary remains at its current level, and he will continue to be eligible for an annual performance-based bonus and get equity-based compensation that ties his payout to the company’s stock performance. There hasn’t been an SEC proxy report filed yet containing Moonves’ 2009 compensation, but he was paid overall, including stock and option awards, about $32 million for 2008, down from $36.8 million in 2007. Moonves has indicated he would not take a pay raise in 2009, so we’ll see. CBS in today’s announcement also said the contract provides “incentives for Moonves to continue his relationship with the company at the end of the employment term” which sounds like a sweet deal.
“This is, above all, great news for every shareholder of CBS,” said controlling shareholder Sumner Redstone. “Leslie is a superb executive who has led CBS to a position of unparalleled leadership in the industry.” Moonves gushed, “I am very gratified that my relationship with the company will continue as we build on the strong foundation we have laid for ongoing growth and success.”

“Moonves gushed”? wearing your feelings on your sleeve, nikki?
Galling all over again, when you recall that the Writers Guild was only asking for a couple million dollars from ALL of the studios together, over the life of the three year contract, and Les Moonves makes over 30 million every year himself.
Les should take his compensation and donate it to the CBS Film Coffers, if he still wants this abomination of a studio to continue. A portion of it should be used for a moving company
to come in and sweep the place clean. Clean of no talent executives that wouldnt know a good script, if William Goldman
gave it to them. Extraordinary Measures, a Jay-Lo movie rumored straight to video, and some 8 week shoot called “faster.” are proof of these executives brilliance. How and why are these people there?
Well said.
Faster is actully a pretty great script. Looking forward to that one.
In respect to CBS Films, I want it to be around a very long time.
I want all movies to succeed. I want these mid range priced movies to be made and succeed. It is good for everyone. But somewhere responsiility for the crap you make, you gotta hone up to it.
He placed these people there to make a go of it…and just by green lighting the one’s already made, Moonie should cut his losses, lose some pride and howl at the moon for talent to replace the whole group. Les you should maybe drive over to the Wilshire Bldg and listen to what’s up next. And not leave it to the executives to greenlight it and the vp of production to grind and pound the life out of it.
Not surprising. I see him staying in that role for as long as HE wants it.
Les Moonves is a nasty thug who uses fear and intimidation in the workplace. His employees live in fear. His shows are derivative of one another and feature crimes against women.
CBS under his leadership is homophobic and misogynistic. And it gets great ratings. So who needs to consider the greater good when there is lots of money to be made?
Some one must be watching what CBS has to offer. They are #2 next to FOX. His only misstep was the Film division. TV is just fine. His shows might be derivative of one another, but every time he puts CSI in front of a title it’s $$$ for CBS. His only missteps was the film division, and not taking a harder line with the WGA.
CBS has a reputation in Hollywood as the toughest negotiating net work. Other studios, producers etc prepare themselves when they know they’re negotiating with CBS. I don’t think it’s accurate to say that Moonves is a bully or use tactics to intimidate his employees. His opponents fear and respect CBS because of him. He is a very tough and smart businessman and well respected. I do believe that the net work would not have renewed his contract if they didn’t trust that he could deliver. So I say good for him that he is getting $ 32 million dollars, it’s a small amount compare to the real wealth of the entertainment industry. The entertainment industry is a ” business ” For the jealous haters, go out accomplish your own success, and stop hating on people who are achieving success! Good for Moonves, I hope he will get a bonus on top of his contract!!!
Well said.
I can’t stand seeing all the “he should take a pay cut and pay us more” comments. Clearly from bitter out-of-work or untalented people. Pathetic.
All you naysayers are just jealous of Les’ beautiful, deep, even tan!
Peter Roth tries to emulate the Les Moonves tan. All the over 60+ men of TV do. Stephen J. Cannell looks like Louis Vuitton luggage.
I hope they have good dermatologists. It’s not 1970. And the climate has changed.
Talk about failing upwards. I guess he need s to pay those self tanning bills.
Why not publish both of these headlines that came out within two weeks.

CBS Boss Moonves Signs New 5-Year Deal – Feb24th
Les Moonves is one tough busniessman. If you get on the wrong side of him you are cooked….at lesst until you make amends. He owes the wga and the writers nothing. They have made their own beds. They went on strike for a year to get a meaningless bone for thye internet. Stop whining wga you are not coal miners.
Les is great to those loyal to him and has been great in developing and promoting women executives. I have been in fights with Les, have not backed down and ultimately was treated fairly.
Nothing in the press release about more spots in prime time for Julie Chen to appear. I am disappointed. I thought for sure Les would be shoe horning his main squeeze into more “opportunities”.
It’s a shame that some SOB’s seem to fall upward.
One hopes that CBS upgrades to CEO 2.0 and ousts him. Just as he ousted his wife for Ms. Chen, Imus to appease the race baiters, and Howard Stern due to his numbers, one hopes that Les gets a dose of his own tactics.
CBS radio fell completely apart without his ad revenue. Why is it that just because a tool like you hates someone it gives you license to libel him. Howard Stern was the single most successful Dj of all time. he allowed Sirius to envelope XM. You get less and Howard owns you.
Les lost over a billion dollars for CBS over playing his ego with Howard.
and look what happened to CBS films…
He is a thug, more sensitive & arrogant than any actor/actress on any network –can’t stand him or the compensation which is totally outrageous – but compared to Zuker, at least he hasn’t pillaged the brand name and lost 100′s of millions of $.
Les has taken a page from the Rupert Murdoch handbook. First off, Les is thin skinned, vain, secretive and limited as a human being.
First and foremost he’s an actor. Appearances are everything to him which is why he’s hard to find. He just repeats the same show over and over because he’s terribly limited creatively. Appealing to the lowest common denominator is good for him. He likes it. He’s a lot like Rupert Murdoch. CBS has also become terribly right wing in its programing. No interracial romances, no gays, no black women. Again Murdoch. The anti abortion Superbowl commercial. Les is pandering and making big bucks.
He’s got the angry chip like Murdoch. In success he dumped loyal wife number one for a young Asian hottie like Murdoch.
And he’s successful out of his own grudges and need to be right. There is no depth to his vision. And he’s never going to die like Murdoch. So we all just have to deal with it.
