2ND UPDATE 3:30 PM: Here is the CBS/Warner Bros/Chuck Lorre statement.
(February 23, 2010) — Joint statement from Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment; Peter Roth, President, Warner Bros. Television; Chuck Lorre, Creator/Executive Producer of Two And A Half Men:
“CBS, Warner Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre support Charlie Sheen in his decision today to begin voluntary in-patient care at a treatment center. We wish him nothing but the best as he deals with this personal matter. Production on ‘Two and a Half Men’ will be temporarily suspended.”
2:10 PM: I understand that CBS learned about Charlie Sheen’s rehab break only about an hour ago. So everything’s in flux. But I can confirm that Two And A Half Men has already shot 18 episodes of its 24 order this season.
1:45 PM: Normally, Deadline Hollywood doesn’t cover the personal lives of Hollywood unless it has a direct impact on business. But now Charlie Sheen’s publicist has released a statement” “As a preventative measure, Charlie Sheen has entered a rehabilitation facility. He will take some time off his series Two And A Half Men. He has asked that his privacy be honored. No further statements are planned.” All I can say is that it’s been a miracle that Sheen and the CBS sitcom have lasted seven seasons considering what a train wreck he is.

how many chances does this guy get?
23
As many as the $$$ brought in will warrent or until he wraps himself around a tree.
Well brett, when the producers and directors of this town are themselves filthy, drugged out and despicable, they empathize for their fellow druggie friends…Thats the lure of this industry. McDonalds will not willingly allow a drug addict to flip their burgers but the studio executives, network executives, agents, managers, directors, producers and everybody else with money and influence will happily continue to hire these Charlie Sheens, Lindsay Lohans and Amy Winehouses, etc etc and give them millions of dollars while simultaneously telling all the unfortunate transients that flock into this town daily to break into the industry that they must always “think positive,” “take good headshots,”"network network network,” and “take a few acting classes,”…meanwhile the cast of Jersey Shore has done none of the above and getting paid $10,000 an episode to fight in bars and act stupid…
So to answer your question brett, charlie sheen will always work because he will always be a druggie…once he sobers up, he wont be cool and bankable anymore.
how has there not been Christian Bale-like soundbites from the set?
What a mess. Don’t get the appeal of that show anyway.
No matter if Charlie is a trainwreck or not. It is not a miracle that the show has been on for 7 seasons when it is one of the most watched tv shows on. And after the domestic violence case in December, the ratings have INCREASED!
Well, I’ve met Charlie Sheen. I’ve talked to him on set, and while I’ve never worked with him, I got the impression of an intelligent, articulate and thoughtful guy. So — he’s either one of the greatest actors of his generation, or he’s a functioning adult with personal demons he manages to keep under control . . . MOST of the time.
Great actor, or more normal than you care to think. You can’t have it both ways.
Pretty interesting considering the production staff and many crew -at least non-producers – have not been told and no one there knows what’s going on…
His contract is up soon so this isn’t the best time to approach it w/o representation considering this mess BUT, if Charlie and the network both wish this show to go on, everyone knows they can’t do it without Sheen (or Cryer for that matter).
Personally, I think the show’s friggin hysterical.
No, this isn’t Charlie…
Its about the bottom line, money.
I hope Mr. Lorre takes care of the rest of the cast & the crew as they face weeks of unexpected unemployment – why should they suffer for one person’s mistakes?
I don’t see why the show can’t go on without Charlie. It would be just as good if not better. Can you just see Alan running Charlie’s house while he’s gone and Berta could have more of a story line. She is so funny. The writers are really good on this show. Just write around Charlie. Say he’s off on his honeymoon are something. The people that do like the show watch for other reasons than Charlie.
Charlie Sheen commits violence towards women but he makes money for WB and CBS so they give him a free pass.
He raises children and is a major drug addict and they give him all the support in the world.
“The ratings are good. Audiences love him. Women love him.”
The hypocrisy of the network and studio here is appalling and transparent. It’s not about Sheen. Or his repeatedly breaking the law or endangering innocent lives.
It is all about money. Protecting their investment to their shareholders.
The network and studio have made a fortune off this show and the human side seems lost on them even as they try to rise to the occasion with this phony sounding press release. Poor Charlie Sheen is a disaster and needs to be put away for a good long rest before he hurts someone beyond repair. The guy is a real danger to himself and others.
Perhaps he should talk to Ferris Bueller.
Why in God’s name is this guy such a fuck up? It’s been like ten years of this with him. How many people would salivate over the opportunities that this douchebag keeps blowing? Why does this town keep enabling and enabling this sort of stuff? Since this town is run by too big too fail corporations, when does it become liability? I mean shit, can’t you just pay Taylor Lautner 10 million to fill in for him?
The real train-wreck is that show of his. It would have been put out to pasture a long time ago if the other networks had any decent comedies in place.
Aww, poor Chuck fell off the wagon again. Such a shame…I embarrassingly LOVE 2 1/2 Men.
And Brett, I agree with you, BUT look at Robert Downey, Jr….who’d EVER have thought that he’d managed to stay sober (or married, for that matter) for as long as he has? Sometimes, it happens.
Charlie should also think about the families that work on his show who will now lose income during Charlie’s “break”. In today’s economy, no one can afford this, except maybe….Charlie.
What’s your point, jf? That a guy that messed up should forego rehab because of his staff? Boy, you’re a dope.
Well, first there was the 9/11 conspiracy bullshit, then he choked his wife for Christmas… sure couldn’t see this one coming.
Questioning 9/11 was a strong point for Charlie.
Didn’t see the IRS building turn to dust, did you?
Not to mention shooting his girlfriend in the arm in 1990.
Lots. Women love him. He’s the bad boy they all secretly hope to tame.
The bad boy with the work done around his eyes.
“Normally, Deadline Hollywood doesn’t cover the personal lives of Hollywood…. it’s been a miracle that Sheen and the CBS sitcom have lasted seven seasons considering what a train wreck he is.”
Yeah right Nikki. You may not cover their lives, but it certainly doesn’t stop you from passing judgement either. Ah, the tabloidization of America continues.
As long as his wife wants him in her life, who gives a shit? And if his acting chops continue to hold up – ditto.
Why is this show still on?! It’s pathetic If anyone I know is watching that drivel, they’re not admitting to it. Hopefully, CBS will simply cancel the damn thing and make room for a real sitcom with actors with real comedic timing. Charlie Sheen is about as funny as a domestic disturbance. I’m sure Denise is laughing her ass off at this.
there are real comedies on right now? where?
And Denise is just as much of a mess… she has no room to laugh.
Dumbest comment on deadline.
Why is this show still on? Geee, I don’t know. Maybe it’s because it’s been the highest rated comedy on TV for years and will continue to make millions for CBS and in syndication for WB. Get a clue! You obviously don’t see TV ratings or know anything about this business, do you?
And what in the world makes you think that just because you don’t like it, that nobody else does? Clueless. Just clueless.
Denise is having the last laugh…and she deserved it so
Now we all know who ‘is’ the screwed up one….
A junkie then..a junkie forever…
my god who watches ‘two and a half men?’ too bad about budd fox, but then again the guy is a train wreck.
See my comment above. Many people watch 2 1/2 Men as it’s been the highest rated comedy on TV for several years now and a huge money maker for CBS & WB. Get a clue.
I really hope Charlie gets well soon and gets back to work. If not for Chuck’s sake (he doesn’t need the money), then for rest of the cast and crew and let us not forget Lapidus. Get well soon, Charlie!
charlie sheen on sitcom break from rehab
The writing of 2.5 Men was always the star of the show to me. Now the scribes will have to cobble together a season closer with the Sheen character m.i.a. on his alleged wedding day. I feel bad for the production staff who will be denied income, unless Sheen takes some of his millions and compensates them. (pause for laughter)
