I think these are the same folks who buy an overpriced mediocre wine because of the label.
That’s a valuable back catalog – just imagine all the remakes! Pulp Fiction, with Shia LaBoeuf as Vincent Vega, Tracy Morgan as Jules, Taylor Lautner as Butch, Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart as Ringo & Yolanda, and Megan Fox as Mrs. Mia Wallace! Coming to a theater near you in Summer 2012 to strike down with great vengeance and furious anger!
this would be wrong on so many levels. if this ever happens tarentino would hunt the makers down, and knife them
i pray this never happens
Jesus, both of you, take a joke.
It looks like everyone other than Disney seems to think they can do something with Miramax.
Of course the more bidders in the game the less likely the Weinsteins are going to be able to buy it back. Which might be an impetus behind so many bids.
……and how is that fd, people are bidding their money to keep the weinsteins from getting it?
wow, that makes good sense. Another lesson on good business tactics.
My understanding is that Disney is going back to it’s core business of family films with tie ins to it’s theme parks. There is no Pulp Fiction ride at Disneyland.
I was going to put in a bid myself but then I thought of all the other stuff I could buy with $10
the question is not how many bids but the size of them
The Weinsteins don’t deserve their name back. They’ve treated everyone like shit in this business for years (basically ever since they came on the scene) and after crushing everyone else’s dreams, I hate to see those D-bags get what they want.
Maybe Disney should rethink before they throw the baby out with the bath water.
Am I missing something here? Why doesn’t someone buy the library and sell the name back to Harv? Win-win.
Fairly sure he wants the library too.
My thoughts exactly.
Because really, who wants to see Harvey Weinstein do anything but suffer? The last thing anyone should want is for him to get his beloved Miramax back – complete with the same library of films to mistreat.
key to the success of many of the recent quality Miramax titles is Scott Rudin. i wonder how his deal sits with Disney now that Miramax is gone…does he have to keep his stuff with the next buyer?
Interesting question… I can see Sean Bailey and Scott Rudin working well together though.
Sometimes I wonder what Bob Iger is thinking? Content is king right? 700 Miramax films is a lot of content.
Might be a ploy to drive up the price and make Harvey sweat.
Hello? Am I the only one who is wondering WHY Disney is selling hit films? Aren’t they in the business of owning and exploiting hit films like Pulp Fiction, Shakespeare In Love, Good Will Hunting, etc.?
it would seem Disney should be buying movie catalogs, not selling them.
Because you can’t sell Good Will Hunting lunchboxes, or build a Shakespeare In Love theme park ride, or broadcast Pulp Fiction on the Disney Channel. It’s a great film library, but it doesn’t match Disney. If they’re getting back to a core focus on family entertainment, dumping it for some coin makes sense. That said, there are a handful of titles they should hang on to — SpyKids, Finding Neverland — but just a few. And I suppose they could have found a way to leverage “Chicago” in their studios theme park, but now I’m just rambling.
wonder how the MGM process is effecting this / interesting timing
Yeah, 10 bidders but I think four of those are for $10,000 from Joss Whedon.
Disney should keep the library and put it in the vault for five years, and sell the name “Miramax” back to the Weintsteins.
Content is king. and 700 movies is a lot of content.
