According to my sources close to the show, the new judge will be announced at the end of the current run. Whoever gets the gig will have a sweet deal: 19 Entertainment, the London-based company which created American Idol, has a budget of $38 million to spend on Cowell’s replacement.

Why do you have to take this to a political level. It’s a discussion of entertainment. But then again, if you think this is a successful presidentcy and Bill Clinton has gavitas it explains why you have such opinions that ignore reality. We haven’t had a good president in two decades. What we have, on both sides of the aisle, are a bunch of people who are slowly taking away our freedoms and people like you who think what we have now is good for our country will be shocked when they wake up one morning and realize that they have lost the freedoms we once had. i think american idol is going to be done after the next season. its good but Simon is too big a draw. When x-factor came out in the UK it squashed Pop idol(our equivilant). There is more scope for competitors as there are age, gender and group brackets. And as the judges rep one bracket each you know they’ll be blowing up the rivalry between judges.

Howard invented the format for american Idol in 1984. He had 3 record execs and him self judge amateur singers for a record contract, it was a regular part of his program in the 80′s. He also was a program director choosing what people hear on the radio. He also discovered Sugar Ray and put Staind on the map by promoting their talents in music. Plus he started with an audience of 600, 000 at sirius satellite and now has 20 million listeners that pay $16 per month to hear him talk. Nobody on the planet has that much pull. When Oprah signed on with XM radio after 2 years they didn’t have any increase in listeners. If you listen for 1 week you will see he is not just bathroom humor. He is the last honest celebrity talking about what we all think but are afraid of saying. Howard also has pull on TV his E program was the highest rated daily cable program ever and his old channel 9 show beat Saturday night live every week in ratings.
Actually, Hoo Hoo only had 8.3 million subscribers before the Sirius XM merger. XM had 9 million. Since Hoo Hoo had already been on Sirius for over 2 years by the time the merger happened, to say that 18 million people pay for Hoo Hoo is just a lie. 9 million of those people had already made their choice to have an XM subscription. Did Hoo Hoo increase subscriptions for Sirius? Most definitely. But only to 8.3 million, not 18 million. Stop believing everything that comes out of Hoo Hoo’s mouth.

MADONNA would be a great choice. She’s one of the most succesful performers in music hitory, has produced artists and could be more outspoken than Simon. Plus, they have enough money to pay her. No matter what anyone says about Paula, she added credibilty as a successful musical artist. Madonna can fill the shoes of both Paula and Simon.

Here’s a little bit of a transcript from when the “judges” went on the Stern show that most people wouldn’t know about.
The judges from American Idol were on Howard Stern yesterday (01/21/03). They were judging some people who came to the studio to see if they had what it takes to be on AI. They did their usual and ripped pretty harshly into the singers. Finally, the last person up, “Scott” sang a bit from “Hero” (from Spider-Man).
(paraphrased)
Simon: “You’re too old to make it in this business. You’re alright, but not very good.”
Paula: “You were alright, but you lost us when you closed your eyes. You lack the ability to project and you don’t have a good presence.”
Last guy(?): “He was okay. Just okay.”
Howard:”Since you’ve already given your judgement, I can reveal that this isn’t Scott, but rather Josey Scott, who wrote and performed on the song “Hero” and is also in the band Saliva. So what does that tell you?”
Simon: “That we have absolutely no idea what we are doing.”
Howard:”Thank you, Josey. By the way, about how many singles of that song did you sell?”

The fact that this was even thrown out there is so laughable. Howard Stern is one of the biggest frauds to have ever reached the heights of media superstardom. He is the one who started these dubious rumors because if there’s one thing about Howard, it’s his egomaniacal lust for self promotion. He has this delusional belief that so many in the entertainment biz have stolen from him. The fact of the matter is that Howard’s only contribution to entertainment has been to elevate flatulence on the radio to a whole new level.
As the years have gone by, he’s been exposed for the fraud he is. For example (are there are many) he use to blast decrepit old farts marrying trophy wives and what does he do but marries one himself, not only that but one who seems to have no other function than to show up at red carpet events. Among other loathsome qualities about Howard stems from the past three years, where Artie Lange has been committing a slow, painful and painfully unfunny suicide over the airwaves, and what does Howard do? Nothing. Nada. His self destruction was radio gold, in the beady little eyes of Howie. And when Artie eviscerated his arms with a set of Ginsu knives last December (he’s been off the show and “in therapy” ever since), Howard proclaimed shock.
Anyone who pays one dollar to this solipsistic, narcissist heap of maggot-laden feces is a complete moron. Howard is finished. They were less than 10 percent the size of XM, yet once he came on board Sirius was able to force a merger (in reality a takeover). Finally, all you need to do is take a look at the current state of terrestrial radio
(by the way, Howard wasn’t the first to use that term, but he did bring it into mainstream usage) to see the impact he has. And for those of you who think he is a foul mouth pervert, I would submit that you have likely never listened to him or you would know that he is an intelligent, well-spoken radio personality. Sex is a small part of his show and his language is nothing beyond what you hear everyday.

He has said numerous times that he was not offered the job and that he wouldn’t take. When Ellen started talking about him in public, he then said he’d take the job just to screw with her. However, it was all in jest. He’s staying at Sirius as he has said repeatedly. The media created this non-story not him. He just played it up.

I’ve listened to Howard for 20 years now and he never used to blast anyone for marrying trophy wives. He used to always say that’s what he would do if he wasn’t married already and he would talk about being jealous of those guys that can dump their wives and upgrade.

for your information, Stern was on vacation the week that these rumors began spreading, he did not talk about this until the following monday. so I fail to see how he was spreading this rumor.
who cares. There are much more important things to be worried about. The people that watch this trash represent all that is wrong with the world. Give me that money and I could do some real good with it. Don’t give it to yet another complete waste of space.

$38 million to judge a karaoke contest. I will take $1 million. This show has jumped the shark. I have not watched it in 3 seasons. I would have come back for Howard. I am much happier that he is not in the running since I enjoy his sirius show daily. He would have left that to do this. Ellen really has to go. What a waste. She just sucks.

I said that I have not watched it in Three Seasons. Not since season three. I watched for a few minutes the other night and had to turn it off due to Ellen. It was just so boring.

Regarding Bob Dylan. Hell yes! I have enjoyed his time on camera and in front of microphones for close to 50 years. Introduced to him in 1963 I have followed him ever since. Not that I am a Dylan junkie or an obsessed fan but I do consider his wit, sarcasm, dry sense of humor and his relentless attacks on all things worthy of his time would be a great addition to almost any T.V. or Radio show. Dylan still rocks!

Thank God it won’t be that idiot Stern. I have watched every show for the past 9 years but if Perez Hilton gets it – I’m done. I wouldn’t watch it if you held a gun to my head! You need someone with industry knowledge. Ellen needs to go too.
American Idol is in trouble…. Ellen is a disaster… she adds zero to the broadcast and she isn’t even funny… she basically parrots the other judges and just repeat the same comment over and over again, sometimes in the very same 30 seconds.
Howard is the only one who could save that show next year. It will absolutely tank without a judge like Simon. He is the reason everyone tunes in, whether they want to admit it or not.
We’re new to watching Idol — last year was our first year. While Simon is our favorite, he’s not the only honest music exec to ever come down the pike. (Then again, as I type that, “honest” and “music exec” are hardly ever used in the same sentence, huh?…) It just has to be someone very knowledgeable about the industry who will be brutally honest — nothing personal. That’s the beauty of Simon — it’s not personal; if you suck, it’s his responsibility to make sure the airwaves don’t get clogged up with any more trash than is already out there.
We really like Ellen — she’s not afraid to speak her mind and disagree with the other judges, and she’s funny.
Howard would look for at least $75 mil a year and wouldn’t be able to stand the other idiots on the panel, so he has obviously declined.
The departure of Simon will be fatal to the show and especially if Mr. Stern is brought on board to replace Simon. Firstly, Stern is a boor. Secondly and most damning, he is not entertaining. His brand of entertainment is so crass and without any redemptive value that the show’s ratings would crater like an NBC drama series. Besides, it’s supposed to be a talent contest. The only thing Howard knows is the general difference between C, D and double D.
