Leo DiCaprio is taken with Prisoners, an Aaron Guzikowski-scripted drama that Alcon Entertainment partners Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson bought last year. At the time, they signed Antoine Fuqua to direct. He has since dropped out. DiCaprio’s very particular about his directors — since 2002, he has made 4 films with Martin Scorsese and the only other directors he’s worked with have been Chris Nolan, Ridley Scott, Sam Mendes, and Ed Zwick. So Leo’s participation will depend on who’s helming.
Prisoners has a Mystic River-meets-Taken storyline, and DiCaprio wants to play a small-town carpenter who takes matters into his own hands when his daughter and her friend are kidnapped. “In the 12 years we’ve run this company, this is the most interesting, morally complex thriller we’ve ever gotten, and we can’t wait to make the movie,” Kosove told me. The script made the most recent Black List. And the Alcon duo, who with Gil Netter are up for Best Picture for The Blind Side, are producing with Kira Davis and Adam Kolbrenner. Warner Bros will distribute. I’m told Leo will likely make another movie before taking Prisoners.

I vote for Leo to take a meeting with Kathryn Bigelow.
I second that
Gil Netter anywhere near an oscar…proof there is no god
LOL. Mean but I get it. Dude’s cool though.
i ‘m tired to see Leo in other character than dark and intense characters(since “aviator”,he acts a paranoid) even if he’s great in intense characters
Second that! As great as he is in those depressing roles, he`s pure movie magic in parts that let him turn on his charm. Like Titanic and Catch me If You Can (one of the last decade`s most underrated performances).
C`mon,Leo, we know you want to distance yourself from teen hearttrobship of Titanic but you`ve already done that. We know you are an ACTOR. It`s OK to be a STAR occasionally. Doesn`t hurt Depp who revivied his career with charm-your-pants-off Jack Sparrow.
You forgot to mention that Leo also worked with Steven Spielberg on 2002′s Catch Me if You Can.
Leo DiCaprio has got an amazing gift for picking movies/characters. He appears to be very selective and that has paid off in spades with the respect to the quality of movies he’s been in and the characters he’s played. I wish DeNiro and Pacino had been as selective. Both are great actors, but have been in some duds.
It’s surprising since earlier in his career he seems like an actor version of the Back Street Boys. Around for a few years and then a regular on reality shows. But he’s got staying power and that’s likely because of a combination of his acting and movie selection skills.
Can’t wait to see Shutter Island, even though a horror flick (at least seems like that from the trailers) seems a little out of character.
I don’t understand what is so great about this script. I didn’t find it to be believable at all or even that riveting. It was just above average at best. This is a role that Leo can play in his sleep. Fuqua was smart to walk away from it after Hugh Jackman, Downey Jr. and Crowe passed. Why is Leo taking sloppy seconds from these guys?
I agree. One of the biggest disappointments of 2009. This was a watered down version of Taken, WME got rid of the writer because of it. Leo will walk quickly. Fuqua was smart is departing.
Its not the actors. They are mostly irrelevant. Di Caprio has had plenty of bombs — he can’t put butts in seats.
It is the WRITING. That is what matters. Taken would have been great with say, Gerard Butler, or Russell Crowe, or Damien Lewis, or Adam Baldwin in the lead, because of the writing. Liam Neeson could have been replaced by many other actors and the film would have been as good.
What matters? Now that films, entertainment, are a commodity sold at Redbox in Supermarkets for $1 rentals?
Story. Character. Plot. That means writing.
Leonardo Di Caprio is a good and talented actor. So what? You could shake a stick at guys who can do what he does, and put the same amount of butts in seats (that is, none at all). Same with directors. What, people outside of Malibu or the Upper East side CARE that it’s Scorsese? Or Bigelow?
He can be picky because of his position in Hollywood. However, he’s more of a director’s actor. Shutter did $40 million, which was a personal best for him – however, not huge compared to other actors that can deliver more. He even showed his name isn’t automated gold with Body of Lies.
