TOLDJA!
Though it is sad to think that the once great LIon of MGM will now be reduced to a ‘pod deal’ on the Warners lot it is important to remember Leo (the Lion) hasn’t exactly been a picture of health (financial or otherwise) the last few years. It’s not perfect but at least it ensures MGM won’t go the way of RKO.
But put everything else aside and a Warners/MGM deal makes sense for everyone. The library is finally reunited and MGM’s franchises (what there is of them) such as Bond are a great fit for WB.
With New Line (as a production label) and MGM (likely as some kind of glorified pod deal) both now absorbed by Warners my screen name (Warner Borg) is truer than ever.
Such is modern Hollywood.
Can Rupert Murdoch acquire Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM)? Good thing Leo the Lion can’t get enough cash to cash in on MGM one of these days, as the most prolific Hollywood icon with a library of nearly 4,500 films could be nabbed by someone else – if any new film released by Leo the Lion could fetch as $1 million.
Crud. That’s too bad. I don’t see Time Warner leaving them as a stand alone. Why would they?
Why? So Bewkes can lay everybody off and just keep the name … like he did for New Line Cinema? What an ass.
Does this mean Daffy Duck will be the new James Bond???
Don’t know, Time Warner might be licking their wounds after Veoh declaring backruptcy after burning through $70 million (TW was one of the “smart” investors).
Who didn’t see this one coming 3,452 miles and 10 years away? Jeff “The Vacuum” Bewkes at it again. Gobble, gobble, gobble – scarf!
This is such a bad idea. Everybody is pushing him to do something with his cash, but he needs to ignore them. The world economy is not out of the woods yet. There may soon come a day he wishes he still had the cash.

Ari, call your brother in Washington and get the FCC to put the kibosh on this. Agencies need as many buyers as possible.
And then play hero and find another buyer for MGM, someone without a movie studio.
