That’s depressing. Invictus was terrible.
just wondering why quentin/inglourious basterds wasn’t even nominated for a WGA award for best original screenplay? WGA members really believe Avatar was a better script than Basterds? just curious if anyone can shed some light on this.
“Basterds” wasn’t done under the WGA contract as Tarantino’s not a member. So, it couldn’t be nominated for an award. Same with “Single Man,” same with “In the Loop,” etc.
And yeah, if this is the best project they could find for the Selvin award this year, that’s too bad.
DL, here’s your answer: QT’s IB was not produced under WGA jurisdiction, i.e., without a collective bargaining agreeement from either the WGAW/WGAE and/or affiliate international Writers Guilds; hence it wasn’t ever elligible to be nominated for a WGA screenplay award. Like other films not nominated for this WGA awards, it’s not a case of writers/films being overlooked/not nominated, it’s more a case of the film itself not being elligible for WGA award consideration.
