EXCLUSIVE: I’ve learned that after 5 PM today, bidders will be told who won that Taylor Lautner-attached script Abducted which the new motion picture lit agency Verve sent out for its client Shawn Christensen. (At one point, Lionsgate asked for an exclusive negotiating window.) Meanwhile, there’s a lot more Lautner news. He and Skydance’s flyboy movie Northern Lights have “respectfully parted ways over casting issues”, sources tell me, noting, “Taylor’s people want to step up and put the best actors and directors around him.” (I hear the Northern Lights project will continue to move forward without Lautner…) Now 5 more movies have been offered to the Twilight Saga’s 18-year-old co-star, including 2 for that open April slot. As for that new salary high of $7.5 million Skydance had offered him for Northern Lights, I’ve learned that Universal paid him that sum to play the title role in Stretch Armstrong. It’s good to be Taylor right now. (And let me talk you off the ledge if you’re not.)
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Actually, I believe the Skydance issue might have been how far he could stretch for his role, which caused his agent to go with all other available and bigger teen hype. Skydance had him #2, and he said no. Can’t blame him, when you’re hot you have to go for the money as there is always time for art later. There aren’t too many like Joseph Gordon-Levitt and River Phoenix.
God – I’m so sick of this guy. Seriously is he worth that much for a movie – total waste.
I don’t get it. He has no acting talent….at all. He was terrible in New Moon, I know, girls LOVED him but let’s get real, they loved him for being shirtless all the time. He should get some serious acting lessons now.
I don’t want to be mean here, that’s simply what I think. He is not an actor yet…….with hard work he could be one day. So start working!
Nikki, you normally cast such a wry eye on Hollywood but these Taylor Lautner updates read like publicist-penned announcements on the front page of Variety. I am hoping they are there to get Twighlight fueled traffic on the site. Because the kid hasn’t shown to anyone he can drive a film…
His people are power-tripping. You gotta crawl before you can walk, kid.
Why is this kid getting offered roles left and right, and Dev Patel from the Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire only has Last Airbender coming up. Talent means nothing in Hollywood, just like Vanity Fair served up with this months cover……Too bad the twilight series doesn’t have many roles for folks of color….
What good director and actors are going to want to be in stretch armstrong?
Why Nikki? I really liked the storyline of “Northern Lights”. So you are saying that one of the 5 movies will start filming this April right?
I believe everyone should get what they can get out of the studios but — SERIOUSLY? Does anyone really think this guy is the next big star? He’s an OK actor and I don’t think he’s that attractive! BUT kudos to him and his team for getting this much. I may be eating it in a couple of years but I don’t see this guy as a major draw in the future.
If memory serves me correctly, Steven Seagal & Chuck Norris made millions while conveying zero personality. This kid has a chance if they did – as long as he resists wearing kimonos.
Great job Peter Kiernan, who is a great guy. Could not happen to a better, harder working manager.
Thrilled for Taylor as well, who is a wonderful kid.
he is getting WAY too much money for those movies.
& who the hell casted him in stretch armstrong!?!? can you imagine him with bleach blonde hair !?!?! he is gorgeous but that would make him look ugly & tacky.
7.5 million to a pretty boy unproven to the target audience.
Hollywood, your stupidity never ceases to amaze.
And he isn’t even pretty.
Totally agree with you BUT, if you really are an actor and believe your own words, at the risk of sounding cruel, your ignorance totally amazes me. Welcome to town.
BARF.
Good for Taylor, he’s set for life and that’s all that matters. Too bad he won’t have a career after his next slew of crappy films tank at the box office.
What a waste of money, the people running the studios now a days are fu*king retards.
BARF.
They’re smart to get him to take the money – he doesn’t have the it factor nor the talent necessary to grow into a true A-lister as other teen phenoms like DiCaprio or McGuire managed to do. Once the tweens forget about him (which should be in about 12 to 18 months), he’ll be putting in appearances on one of the Law & Order, CSI or NCIS (aka “Where Has-Beens Go To Die”) spin-offs. But at least he’ll be set for life.
“Best actors and directors around him” – guess he’ll be staring opposite Denzel Washington in a Nolan -directed “Stretch Armstrong”.
Ha! That about sums it up. The spin around this kid is hilarious. IT’S STRETCH ARMSTRONG. He probably deserves the 7.5 million because the damage this could do to his career is priceless.
Pretty much. I suppose the kid deserves the 7.5 million considering the damage he’s voluntarily doing to his career by signing onto something so dumb.
“7.5 million to a pretty boy unproven to the target audience.”
There’s nothing “pretty” about this boy.
I’m sure the A-list is lining up around the block right now to play second fiddle to Taylor Lautner. LMAO.
I think the guy has lost the perspective already.
Lautner was the best thing about New Moon. I like K-Stew as an actress except in Twilight Saga. Her choice of playing Bella as a mouth-breather is very annoying. Well, Bella is annoying in the books but having her not able to finish a sentence without awkward pauses and gasping for air in the movies is irritiating beyond measure. R-Pattz just does nothing for me. His flour make-up and red lipstick are laughable.
That said, Lautner is now pushed into superhero genre which targets males and they loathe anything Twilight (including actors) while Launter`s fandom are girls. It`s going to be a tough sell. IMO, he is better actor and has much better screen presence than plank of wood Orlando Bloom who totally bombed with his star vehicles Kingdom of Heaven and Elisabethtown. I`m not so sure if Lautner can open a movie on his name alone at this stage of his career, especially a movie that doesn`t primarily target his audience. Bloom certainly couldn`t.
see this is WHY half of Hollywood teenagers (movie stars???)are either in rehap or in rehap again (lol) because silly movie companies are paying them 7millions per movie…can’t they like put them on per hour movie like $20 per hour movie..teach them the value of money.otherwise those millions are going straight to either drugs or rehap…or parents plastic surgeries..just a suggestion…
I’ve got nothing against the kid but seriously…7.5M? I am sure he is wetting his pants now knowing if his 1st movie tank…poof the millions.
But knowing the ladies lurve him (here’s looking at you Nikki) I guess he will be alright
Damn hollywood. If I knew muscles rules over talent, I would have asked my mom to feed me protein shake instead of her milk….
And finally, somehow I feel good knowing Shia Lebouf let his talent speak for itself
Somewhere in HollywoodLand there is at least one positive voice. Mostly we hear from a cabal of negativists and envy-idiots .
Hey – rhe sun is shining.
Universal pays him 7.5 million, since that was his “established” quote via Skydance. That deal has since gone away. How do you think Universal is feeling right now? I’d reckon a little concerned…
Taylor is getting crushed by the greed that surrounds him. I’d bet WME is simply afraid to lose their star client by telling his daddy, “No, you can’t have a producer credit on this film.”
Does money really replace a lost career or squandered talent?
That’s all people talk about here. People write “Good for him!” Which really means “I’m envious and whish hom no good luck.” Who knew that Anna Kendrick from Twilight would be such a good actress or Charlize Theron in Monster?
I feel sorry for this kid. All the money in the world won’t replace what he might have been with a little work and some dedication. Johnny Depp and DiCaprio could have gone this route but they didn’t and look at them now.
A young good-looking kid comes along in this town and all the creepy men and women start to droll over him like guests at an R. Kelly party. And so they think America will despite his obvious greenness. So we rob him of his future by offering him money in lieu of dedication and believe in his own potential. No one knows at 17 how far they can go.
What a waste.
Don’t hate the Taylor guys, hate the game.
He can’t act; once he’s in a non-franchise film, people will realize that. He’s the next Orlando Bloom.
Didn’t lindsay lohan get paid 7 mill for Just My Luck opposite a then unknown Chris Pine? Didn’t Endeavor do that deal? Deja Vu all over again
Dear Agent-
It’s time to slow things down, perhaps be thoughtful and not a total sell out or is too late.
Dear Taylor-
Now is the time for you to repair what your agents have screwed up-
Look at the careers of Leo, Shia, Zac, Johnny time to find your role models. Choose well you only have one shot at this and your on the verge of screwing it all up.
Someone who cares
