UPDATE: Brett Ratner & Relativity Make An Offer
UPDATES JJ Abrams & Jason Blum Ask Paramount To Catch ’Catfish’
UPDATE: We’re told that the Paramount test screening of Catfish resulted in scores of 36% Excellent and 34% Very Good. For a total of 70%. That’s good — but not great.
EXCLUSIVE: Insiders tells us that, at the end, the Sundance hit film had three quiet bidders: Paramount, Fox, and Relativity’s Rogue. Paramount was in it for JJ Abrams and Jason Blum. Fox, for themselves. And Ryan Kavanaugh for Ratner, with whom Rogue is making Movie 43. (Actually, Ratner is one of the components because that pic has 17 directors!) Last night, Paramount held a test screening we already told you about, and, reputedly, the documentary ”scored 100% in the top 2 boxes” for the specially invited indie-lovin’ audience. But that could just be hype. Rogue paid in the $1 million to $1.5 million vicinity for U.S. and other English-speaking territories except Australia. We hear Ratner didn’t put up any dough, but “he’s a particpant because he’ll help to finish the final product since it’s still rough. He’ll refresh it,” our insider says.
New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

If the documentary “scored 100% in the top 2 boxes,” why would it need a “refreshing” from Brett Ratner?
Oh, the genius that is Brett Ratner and Ryan (Just because I have money I’m qualified to make movies) Kavanaugh. Here’s hoping they don’t screw this up with some lame ass hip-hop soundtrack.
Sounds like an awesome idea. Let’s buy an indie gem, a Sundance darling, that has supposedly tested 100% in the top 2 boxes for whatever that’s worth, and have Brett Ratner, the director of RUSH HOUR, RUSH HOUR 2 and RUSH HOUR 3 personally supervise the re-cutting. This is the equivalent of film murder. Are we all going to stand by quietly and watch Catfish get gutted?
Brett Ratner is one of the great producers today. Director, not so. He’s not really a director. His films show lack of vision and are clunky. But he’s a money making machine as a producer.
Thank you.
Great! Hopefully Ratner can come in and add more explosions!!!
Just what every indie filmmaker dreams of — to have Brett Ratner “refresh” your movie.
Ratner hasn’t refreshed his jockstrap, lol. But what is ROGUE? They paid 175 million for this company but do they have any slots at all left? Methinks not.
I would rather take my $10 and light it on fire, then proceed to drink a 2-liter of diet coke while I jump up and down on my bed spinning in circles until I puke, than sit through any movie Brett Ratner has any involvement with. Either way I would lose my $10 and puke my guts out, but at least I would have only wasted 5-10 minutes instead of the 90 minutes I would certainly waste watching any of his movies.
I just got 75% less excited for what is supposed to be an amazing documentary.
Though, if what I hear is correct, anyone who’s ever spent time on the internet should’ve seen the twist from the outset (and it sounds slightly exploitative?).
Good for Brett. This might help get him some serious cred, instead of just action-oriented films.
I will always be thankful for him for helping to launch Prison Break.
Yeah…boy….sure am greatful to the rat for getting that gem on the air. Let’s see, that idea had maybe 6-12 episodes worth of good material, yet it was on the air for almost 4-5 years and jumped the shark more times than even Rain Man could count.
And how long (if at all) did you stick with the show? Usually the people who say this either haven’t watched many episodes, or they never did to begin with.
I will say it again…
Brett Ratner is a producer. He is not a director. Yes, he gets the label and acts like one on the set but he is not a director. Brett Ratner is a producer. Once you come to terms with that realization it will make you feel a lot better. But if you think of him as a director it will certainly drive you crazy.
There are many “directors” today who are really just producers.
McG
etc.
Thank you.
