Matthews needs an agent to help spread his hate?
Does Ari Have tingles running up his leg?
OK, so I finally feel compelled to write. Deadline has officially jumped the shark: Of the 9 new stories today, four are boring press releases; 1 is a memorial announcement; 1 is a gossip item posted everywhere; 1 is a defensive rant; 1 is a lame agency signing for your favorite agency; and one is veritable page 8 trade casting story. YOu have not beaten the trades, you have become one…and that’s not a good thing. Where are the insider looks at mismanagement, teh Oscar bullshit campaigns, Zucker bashing? Whatever, just stop being the Hollywood Reporter Lite.
To be fair, this quote is taken WAY out of context, considering how it was in reference to how Obama has fostered a post-racial political climate in America. Whether it’s right or wrong, it seems clear that Matthew’s words were not founded on bigotry or anything of that sort.
Matthew’s comments sprang from his stupidity. Obama has heightened racial divisions, not made them any less. After his four years are over Obama will have messed up America so much another quasi-black man won’t be elected President for at least a 100 years.
Just goes to show you: as long as you’re a liberal and spout the Democrat line, you can be a total douche who says reprehensible shit that would get any known conservative thrown off the airways — for life.
Nikki. Who gives a fuck. Stop trying to save WME just because you feel guilty that your blog is responsible for destroying the place. You did nothing wrong. They were the screw ups and you just reported the facts.
Looks like the synergy from the merger is starting to pay big dividends. Can Rush be far behind?
Congrats to all you WME’ers.
I sense a bio-pic being packaged.
Or Chris really wants more screen time.
That news sends a tingle up my leg.
for animation voice over?
Obama’s black?
Wait…Obama is black?!
Well, you’re half right.
Meaning, of course, that he thinks about race 24/7.
Chris Matthews statement was spun by the mass media and stated without the context of his overall point. Being, that the State of the Union Address was a beautiful moment representative of how far America has come, i.e. post-racial, citing the fact that an African American President just spoke for an hour+ in congress in front of a mainly Caucasian audience. That this was unimaginable not too may years ago and yet now seems so natural, along with the fact that we can focus on Mr. Obama’s speech content rather than this, is from a political science point of view worth mentioning. Matthews pointed out the elephant in the room in a spontaneous and unpolished manner, as he was in the moment and watching just like you and I. I sensed no malice in his comment, but rather an attempt to convey “just look how far we’ve come”. Matthews is not racist. You blog the truth Nikki, so I expect you to get this right, including the context.
Yeah, look how far we’ve come — we elected a black man who is so eloquent he seems white!
Nice spin, but the statement speaks for itself.
Eloquently written and chock full of polyana liberal drivel. “I think i just felt a tingle up my leg.” This guy tries so hard to be objective and the liberal bias still just oozes from every pore.
You are so right about that! Too often, off-the-cuff remarks get whipped into a distorted frenzy by the scandal-hungry media when taken out-of-context. I know Chris Matthews and his family– went to school with his kids and spent time at their house– and he is a terrific guy. The furthest thing from a racist. He is knowledgeable about a dizzying array of topics and one of those energetic, almost manic culture hounds who just loves to talk. SO he’s perfect for a show like Hardball but the way he is (which is EXACTLY how he is in life) on the show can seem blunt– he’s just being himself. I find it refreshing. And what he meant by that was exactly what you say– he meant it was a post-racial moment, and he was in awe of that, having cut his teeth in a political landscape that has always been anything but.
I watched it live too and he was completely being racist. What’s wrong with Obama being black? Nothing. The color of Obama’s skin makes no difference to his ability to govern. Matthews is an incoherent mess who just thinks about the news in context of his beliefs. There’s no truth in what he says.
Yeah, and I keep forgetting Chris Matthews is on MSNBC.
Too bad he suffers from Joe Biden and Harry Reid’s affliction.
Chris Matthews is a joke. He has no credibility anymore…what a moron.
Yes, but he’s a liberal… that means it’s okay.
I guess Ari’s OK with that.
So is Rahm.
If Chris Matthews and his ilk were so “post-racial” (whatever the hell THAT means – LOL!), they wouldn’t bring up the color of Obama’s skin at every opportunity (“First black president…” at nauseum) or play the race card every time someone doesn’t agree with Obama’s politics. Chris Matthews is a bloviating asshole. No idea why anyone even goes on his show considering all that drunk does is scream questions at them then scream over them when they try to answer. I’m surprised he hasn’t dropped dead of a stroke doing that poorly rated little propaganda “show” of his. Wonder if Matthews got a tingly feeling running up and down his leg when WME signed his papers?
The man was tearing up at how proud he was that Obama had overcome all of the burdens that weigh a black man in this society. Chris was a child of Civil rights and I’m sure it’s amazing to African Americans also how much things have improved in the last 50 years
Put this in context, MSNBC has hosts (including Matthews) who continually portray conservatives and the Tea Party movement as all-white and racist. Yet when you look at the MSNBC hosts they are all white. Poor Chris Matthews is still stuck in a racial mindset most Americans moved on from long ago.
If a conservative had said that the SOTU was the first time they forgot Obama was black, they’d have been instantly declared racist.
Keep drinking the kool-aid.
MSNBC is a business with plenty of African American employees.
The Tea Party is a “political movement” that pretends to represent a large cross section of Americans but appears to be just angry white folk who are out of touch with modern America because the nation does not agree they are automatically superior to everyone else anymore.
As Tancredo said at their TP convention, They Miss the Jim Crow laws and would like them back.
Please defend that position if you are a true Tea Partier.
Tamron Hall is white?
You should switch away from Faux News once in a while and see what you’re talking about.
Talk about being a Kool-aid drinker…..
“… a racial mindset most Americans moved on from long ago” … They have? How naive. We wish they have. This is still a very racist country. It is improving and progressing … slowly … but we’re not nearly there yet.
As for Matthews … I saw his comments live as well and understood exactly what he meant. A lot of things are said in the 24 hour news cycle and some sentences come out which are meant well but may not be worded perfectly. Then other media personalities (like Nikki) take a snippet out of context and completely and intentionally (and gleefully) misconstrue the meaning. That is the shameful part.
Who cares what racists think about Obama…tell me the damn news!
This whole context that Matthews was sharing is the same lame point MSNBC has pounded on for two years now. And it is getting tiresome. ‘Breaking news….Racists don’t like Obama,’…and what does that have to do with the SOTU or value of the dollar? Not a damn thing!
It is the same bs that Dubya and FoxNews pulled with saying people who opposed Dubya and the Iraq war were unpatriotic. MSNBC railed about that tactic….but there they are using the same technique with their Pres.
I am tired of ‘news’ organizations slandering people for the benefit of the White House.
And Tweety needs to keep that kind of stuff to himself. Tingle-legs is never going to live down his other idiot eruptions.
He falls in the ranks of O’Reilly, Olberman (sp?), Beck, etc as not really censoring or apoligizing for what he says. If anything, he wears huge shoes so he can’t ever put his foot in his mouth.
“You know, I forgot he was black tonight for an hour.”
Then you’re w-a-a-y behind the rest of the country, Chris. Although, I do understand that you must keep rehashing his color with silly statements like this, since you feel the need to constantly remind us what a racist country we are.
P.S. By the way, you do understand that WE are the ones that elected him…right?
I don’t know about you, but every time I read something about Chris Matthews I get a thrill up my leg. Woo-hoo.
