I’m surprised that Ashley Tisdale is coming back to The Disney Channel in a High School Musical spinoff when all the news reports about her kept saying she was done playing Sharpay Evans and looking to go edgy as a pop star. But here she is, starring in the Disney Channel original movie slated for a 2011 premiere, Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, according to today’s announcement. Granted, Ashley will exec produce as well as star in the bound-for-Broadway tale (who arrived in Midtown Manhattan as a recent winner of So You Think You’re America’s Most Talented Performing Idol). Written by Robert Horn (producer of Broadway’s 13 and writer/producer of Designing Women), the pic has Barry Rosenbush and Bill Borden (both of the High School Musical movies) also exec producing. Filming starts this summer.
Ashley won an MTV Movie Award and a Nickelodeon UK Kids’ Choice Awards for her portrayal of Sharpay. A Warner Bros. Records recording artist, Tisdale’s second solo album, “Guilty Pleasure,” is certified gold. High School Musical has reached more than 290 million viewers, in 24 languages. Its sequel, High School Musical 2, ranked as the #1 basic cable telecast of all time (18.6 million viewers) and has been seen by nearly 300 million total viewers, in over 27 languages. High School Musical 3: Senior Year in 2008 grossed more than $250 million at the worldwide box office.

Really? That surprises you? The Tiz realized that if she ever wanted to see another pay check, she was going to have to stick to riding the Disney dick.
No one cares about her “edgy” pop-star business. She sucks as a singer and an actress and might as well milk what she has for all it’s worth. Good for the Tiz.
I think that she is a great actor and singer. Anyone that disagrees obviously is jelious that shes making money. Seriously get off her jock!!!
I actually saw High School Musical 3, and I gotta say, Tisdale’s entire performance consisted of wiggling her shoulders. Seriously, if you happen to catch one of these movies, watch how often she wiggles her shoulders.
And her last movie was Aliens in the Attic, so it’s not entirely surprising she wants to do a semi-sure thing.
She also just booked a co-lead in Hellcats, a pilot for the WB….not sure she needs Disney to…um… get a dick ride….
I don’t think the Tiz is a bad actress. I think she hasn’t really had the opportunity to do anything of substance. I think if she got off the Disney train and pursued some serious material audiences might be surprised. Out of all the high school musical grads zeffron is the only one to chase the big guns and I think it’s time the Tiz did the same.

She seems to have done a complete 180 with her actions. She claims she wants to move forward and do different edgy roles in films that are like ‘Juno’ and ‘superbad’ but then she goes and runs back to the Disney franchise that made her famous because she is having issues getting the good roles she supposedly wants. She needs to understand that good roles will not come her way if she continues to do the same crap all the time. She needs to fight for these roles and even take supporting roles if it helps people see her in a new light, but then supporting roles don’t have a huge pay day like this new Sharpay movie so maybe she really needs the money.
Actually, she does an excellent job of voice acting on Disney’s Phineas & Ferb tv show. The show is great and she’s very funny in it. That kid is going places!
She’s a great comedic actress. Give her a chance
I love Ashley! She loves playing the role so I’ll give it to her that she doesn’t care about what other people think and just do what she loves and what she do best.
FYI, “Guilty Pleasure” is an amazing album. People would realize that she is a talented singer if they heard it. I could care less if she is winning oscars or doing another Disney movie, she still an amazing person and role model.
