20th Century Fox is suddenly teeming with production veeps. I am hearing that Lauren Levy is about to become the 6th. She will soon leave Offspring Entertainment, the shingle run by Oscar producer Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot. Levy is the second recent VP hire by newly appointed sole production president Emma Watts, who brought Steven Puri over from Kurtzman/Orci. They join John Fox, Peter Kang, Steve Asbell, and Drew Crevello in veep slots. Levy previously worked at Miramax under ex-president Keri Putnam on films that included Adventureland, Last Night and The Baster.

This is phenomenal news. Lauren is one of the smartest, hardest working execs in this town with a real knowledge and passion of film.
She wholly deserves this! Congrats!
The Baster and Adventureland was Mike Falbo. They were not her films.
That bitch owes me money!
Kidding, she’s a cool chick who is friendly and does the work. But isn’t she like 26 or some such age? Man I’m getting old. Nice job you hot little jewess!
Excellent hire.
ugh, don’t they know what a climber she is.
She does deserve it — she deserves to get eviscerated by Emma on a daily basis, which is exactly what will happen.
C’mon it’s Fox. Puri and Levy will be out of there in a year after they realize they’re underpaid by $100K and there’s no room for them to move up, and no one higher up cares what they have to say. Fox has the worst turnaround for execs of any studio. Just ask the last 6 execs that left in the last 3 years. My boss’ assistant makes more money than the two last Fox VPs that left.
I’m happy for them, but it’s like taking a Rudin job. Congrats, but sorry!
I wish Puri and Levy luck. They’re both great in their individual ways. Agreed that they may not be there for the long term, but if they can get in and get out and use the experience to their advantage then awesome for them! And ‘Nameless’ not sure who your boss is, but if their assistant is making six figures then that is an extremely rare occurrence and one not to be looked at as any level of success but rather someone who lucked out with a very sweet, sweet deal.
Awesome move by Emma. Levy’s an incredibly smart, aggressive and thoughtful exec…it seems there’s a new wind blowing down Pico Blvd.
Yet another fox hire who has no resume, no movies, and no accomplishments. Emma is so afraid of hiring someone that could pose a threat to her. But the joke is on her–because she’s the only one who can put a movie together and will now have to work six times as hard.
She’s dumb as wood, with nothing going for her but a big personality,
a fierce will and ambition to get ahead and a pretty face. All you really need in Hollywood to get ahead. Ridiculous addition to the roster and jsut proves that FOX is the joke that it really is.
Clearly you have never spoken to Lauren. “dumb as wood”? are you kidding me? Lauren is smart and a lovely person. Perhaps if you had a job she would have a reason to talk to you, and then you might get to know her.
If you drop Avatar, which was greenlit back in December of 2006 under Hutch, and you drop Fox Animation, this is what you are left with: Max Payne, Meet the Spartans, Nim’s Island, Australia, The Happening, 27 Dresses, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Jumper, What Happens’ In Vegas, Percy Jackson, Tooth Fairy, DragonBall Evolution, The X-Files: I want to believe, Meet Dave, Babylon A.D., Shutter, Mirrors, Bride Wars, All About Steve, Aliens In the Attic, Jennifer’s Body, I Love You Beth Cooper, 12 Rounds. If there is “a new wind blowing down Pico”, it broke at BLDG 88 – 10201 West Pico.
How dare you sir!
Spartans and Jumper were Regency! 12 Rounds, Beth Cooper, and Jennifer’s Body were Atomic! Steve and 27 were Fox 2000! So yes, big Fox has been consistently shitty, but not nearly as prolific as you suggest!
LOL. I mean, I actually laughed… at a comment on Deadline. Well played, and a great name too.
Dear Jason and E Valentine,
I know it’s a tough marketplace and I know you wanted this job. Unfortunately, while you were viable candidates, I have chosen to hire Lauren Levy. She is a talented, well-liked, filmmaker friendly executive who will be a great addition to the Fox team.
Please don’t embarrass yourselves by so being so petty and jealous that you feel the need to post disparaging and unfounded jabs at Lauren in the comments section of Nikki Finke.
Sincerely,
Emma Watts
I already work for you!
Thank you Emma and Jennifer. Lauren is fantastic and I wish her all the best.
Why is being a “climber” a bad thing? Is it better to stay in one place without advancing in this business. I’m sure there’s a number of studio heads, high level agents and people who are quite successful who have been called the same thing. Climb on this!
You’re only derided as a “climber” if you’re a woman. In men it’s called ambition.
I’m glad for her but, honestly, she’s never impressed me that much. Either has Puri for that matter. Someone above described them as having “big personalities,” which pretty much sums it up. They’re great at navigating the waters — and isn’t that all one really needs in this age of library-mining and comic book-adapting? They’ll be fine in the studio system: no accountability.
Wow, everyone always said Hollywood is just like high school and I guess they were right. Why must people feel the need to write such negative and cruel things about other people? Seems there is a lot of self loathing going on out there which is a shame. As her soon to be former employee, I have found Lauren to be nothing but sweet and hard working. Adam and I couldn’t be more excited for her.
Emma,
Have fun. You bought it. Now you own it.
Paul
Yay Lauren! She’s cool and lovely, supportive of filmmakers and a hard worker. And fun. It helps if you’re someone talent likes to hang with.
Kudos to Emma for sticking up for Lauren! I do not know what is going on behind the scenes in this situation but it seems very petty. If you don’t agree with who is being hired, well then, go out there and do a better job yourself somewhere else. Put your energy into that instead of all that negativity. Rise above, naysayers.
I have had the pleasure of working with Lauren and she will be an excellent exec at Fox. She is a leader, she’s talented, and more than anything she works her ass off. Climber? WHO ISN’T? We’re all climbing. Focus your energy on something worthwhile instead of hating on a good persons well deserved accomplishment.
I’m glad for her. FOX has become such a strong studio, so working for them is definitely going to help pad your portfolio
I know Lauren personally and she is HORRIBLE. She is the BIGGEST, FAKEST person I have ever met. All she is about is networking and pretending to be nice. She is probably the worst, most untalented exec in this business!!! She proves this by being engaged to Neustadter – what a writer-ho. It will be hilarious in a year when that falls apart and everyone finds out how truly untalented and ugly she really is.
Really? Neustadter is a “writer-ho”. I’m not even sure how to respond. You are clearly ignorant. This “writer-ho” wrote 500 DOS originally as a fucking journal to express his own emotions. It wasn’t a screenplay until years later. Does that categorize him as a “writer-ho”? DOUCHE.
As for your comments regarding Lauren, Ha.
You’re a douche. Grow up.ut
Amazing how the posters deriding a hard-working young exec on her accomplishments feel the need to hide behind pseudonyms. The next time you call someone a “writer-ho” or some other disgusting label, why don’t you use your real name so we all know how ugly YOU are.
I’m kind of surprised at the venom. I’ve found her to be a very smart person who is also involved in good, non-profit organizations. She’s been particularly helpful to minorities. There are some very bitter people here.
I don’t know Lauren and don’t care about her, but isn’t it great that we now have a forum for unemployed (or underemployed, menial-level) losers to slander and malign people in public?
Thanks for raising the level of discourse in Hollywood, Nikki!
this is just a painfully immature display of career envy. lauren is a force to be reckoned with and an executive to be admired. maybe if those of you consumed with writing horrible things spent more time doing your jobs and less time fabricating these outright malicious accusations, we’d all be reading about YOUR promotions on deadline hollywood daily.
Why is it that every time Nikki announces a promotion that people feel the need to attack the subject of the article? It seems like people only write nice things on here when someone dies.
Lauren is one of the nicest and hardest working executives in Hollywood and Fox is lucky to have her. She has done nothing to deserve these negative comments (and for those of you who chose to attack her personal life – maybe you need to get a life).
Really? These hateful posts? Its nice to see such skill and intelligence put to such good use. Way to rise above the stereotype guys. I hope you sleep well tonight, I know lauren will. She has a great new job that she earned and in which she will excel. Congrats lauren!! All you haters, eat it while you collect your unemployment checks.
