NBC has picked up daytime drama “Days of our Lives” for its 45th season, keeping the long-running show on the network through the 2010-11 television season. Despite the cancellation of other soaps, especially on CBS, the network said Days has shown year-to-year increases in key female demographics. It first premiered as a half-hour drama in 1965 and expanded to an hour 10 years later. It’s currently tied for #2 for the season among all daytime dramas in women 18-49 and women 18-34. Through 25 weeks of the 2009-10 season, Days is averaging 3.3 million viewers, its highest average at this point in the season in three years and a 10% increase over its audience of one year ago, according to Nielsen Media Research. Days of our Lives is produced by Corday Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Please don’t cancel days I have been watching the show since I was born I’m not kidding!! I was born on January 1, 1966 and I have been watching ever since now I watch daily with my lil’ girl!
I even watched an episode when I was delivering my son on April 19,1996 and I call him my “Days of our Lives” baby!
It is a part of our American pop culture Please Don’t cancel it that would break so many Hearts!!!
Thank-you,
ann sosa
Are you people kidding me? Not that when I view Day Of Are Lives and only get 8 or so minutes of show time, then you slap me with 12+ on commericals!! The biggest farce is now, you are cheeper by advertizing “frozen chinese food in a bag”, during the Bradies Pub scene, ie; showing the name over and over again on what’s for dinner for “Sam’s kids and how they love it”, the on todays episode 9/29. Maybe you should advise the money grabbing producers that they are very tired. $$$$$$hame On You At Are Expense!
I grew up watching this show if you cancel this show you will have alot of upset women out there!THIS SHOULD BE IN THE #1 RUNNING OF DAY TIME SOAPS.. it is just about the only one i realy watch dool you rule do not cancel your show…..
I am a HUGE DOOL fan! Why cancel the show?? So we can have another one hour paid commercial slot?? My comment on the quality of the show is that the some of the vets need to come back and some new writers need to brought in. The show is getting stale in places.
I really dont want to lose dool.. my family has been loyal watchers from day 1, my grandfather would come out of the fields just to watch then go back out and plow some more..lol,.. I MISS JOHN AND MARLANA but i getting use to the cast these days.. so please, please dont cancel the show..there will always be days fans out here..
i love this show but i wish that it would bring out the true feelngs of charater and not jump around with lovers
i am surprised that days is still on the air. all of the good actors are gone and the new actors are let go (fired) bring back the good actors and fire the writers. i am so tired of ej and his kiddie ways who thinks up the stupid ways for him to do things just because he loves sami? get new writers and start the show over. right now now it stinks. why is daniel so mad at his wife he had a child to a woman, cheated on lucas and now he is mad at his wife for having a baby to another man. who remembers this it never comes out THAT DANIEL CAN NOT KEEP HIS PANTS ON. now they are getting rid of Mark and not replacing him.
I saw this show the first day it aired then i had to start working a shift when i could not watch i started watching and the actors had changed JUST GET RID OF THE SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IT BECOMING A JOKE.
I’ve been watching Days of Our Lives for over 40 years, and it use to be one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I stopped watching it about three weeks ago — now I only read the weekly updates online. I can’t bear to watch it spiral downhill.
Over the past 10 to 15 years it has morphed into some type of science fiction show. I realize that it is a soap opera, but it has gone to point of no return. It has the most RIDICULOUS plots (surgical of Jennifer’s heart (wow, she looked fabulous during the entire surgery & recovery); Rafe held captive in the Dimera dungeon, etc.). I feel for the talented actors who have to work with these absurd scripts. I think the writers must be using serious drugs.
Days of Our Lives has gotten REALLY strange. I want to know how Sami can’t tell the difference between the real Rafe and fake Rafe. Wow, the DiMera’s must know some fabulous plastic surgeons –how could they have matching genitalia? Wouldn’t his wife know the difference??????? Just asking
This show has steadily gone downhill, used to love it too! It just seems like production values (I.e. Hair, make-up, story lines) have declined.
First he did NOT commit suicide he died of alzahemiers. If u spent a little more time on the internet searching this u would have found it. 2nd of all I’m sure it didn’t cross ur mind that posting that may have hurt his children, grandchildren etc. Hope next time u take time to think before u type to see who might read it and how it may affect them.
OKAY… FIRST THINGS FIRST ~ JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE IN LIFE, EVERYONES GOING TO HAVE EITHER A POSITIVE/NEGATIVE COMMENT AND OPINION REGARDING DAYS OF OUR LIVES. I AM NOT A VETERAN WATCHER. I WOULD SOMETIMES CATCH A FEW MINUTES OF THE ENDING OF DAYS OF OUR LIVES BECAUSE I USED TO WATCH PASSIONS. ANYWAYS WHEN THEY CANCELLED I DECIDED TO GIVE DAYS OF OUR LIVES A CHANCE BECAUSE I REALLY WANTED TO GET INTO ANOTHER SOAP OPERA. (I TRIED WATCHING EVERYTHING ELSE AND IT LITERALLY PUT ME TO SLEEP LOL). IVE BEEN WATCHING FOR ALMOST 3 YEARS NOW AND I CAN SAFELY SAY I REALLY LOVE THIS SHOW. I ESPECIALLY LOVED THE FACT THAT MY 3 FAVORITE CHARACTERS FROM PASSIONS GOT PUT ON AS CHARACTERS IN DAYS OF OUR LIVES (2 NOW THAT THEY KILLED OF ARIANNA HERNANDEZ). I GET SO EXCITED WHEN IT COMES ON AND TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT. EVEN MY HUSBAND KNOWS SOME OF THE CHARACTERS (HIS FAVORITE BEING STEFANO LOL) AND HE WILL ASK ME “SO WHAT HAPPENED WITH…” OR IF HES AT HOME HELL ACTUALLY CUDDLE UP WITH ME AND WATCH. BOTTOM LINE IS PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THIS SHOW. NOW WITH 2 MORE SOAP OPERAS BEING CANCELLED IM SURE YOU WILL GAIN MORE VIEWERS, BUT ALL IN ALL THIS SHOW IS AWESOME, THE CHARACTERS PORTRAYED ARE REALISTIC, YOU CAN FEEL THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THE ACTORS, AND THE STORY LINE SUCKS YOU IN LEAVING YOU WONDERING WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND I WISH ANOTHER 50 YEARS OF DAYS OF OUR LIVES.
I believe that days of our lives will be along for along time! Yes they bring new characters in but every show does that!!! It’t not necessarily the writers doing it maybe it’s the actress or actors moving onto new job opportunities! As far as I’m concerned all these ppl writing bad comments on here- just don’t watch! No one is forcing u to watch.
it’s*** sorry!
I have been watching Days of Our Lives for 26 years my husband has been watching for 8 and all eleven of my female cousins also have been and still are watching the show. Many conversations have been had during family gatherings about the characters and their lives. I Believe they have all become part of our family. I may not always agree with the writers and sometimes they mess up a good charecter but I truely would mourn this show if it was taken off air. As for the cast I think they do a great job! Would like to see at least one couple that made it through all the drama and continued to be solid in their relationship…(HINT) Nicole and Brady would be perfect for this!
Long live DOOL!! I’m a retired male. I hope they save the show. Here’s my lengthy but humble opinion about the state of DOOL specifically and soaps in general. During the current economic depression and rising production costs all studios are cutting their budgets. That includes talent, sets, and staff writers. It seems as if they’re cutting off the head to spite the body!
I started watching DOOL with my wife during the early 80′s. It’s really the only daytime soap that has kept me interested all these years. I also watch One Life to Live and General Hospital(and fast-forward through them most of the time), but if I can’t watch or if I have only 1 hour of Tivo apace then DOOL wins hands down.
During the 80′s I worked the late afternoon shift. I awoke at 1 PM just as DOOL started and I watched because my wife ruled the TV during ‘her soaps.’ I watched while I had coffee and breakfast. At first I was annoyed to watch a “soap opera” (NOT much of a guy thing, but really what else is on at 1 PM?). But I quickly became a fan of DOOL. I enjoyed the mystery and intrigue. The plots regularly took the characters around the globe to faraway locales such as exotic islands and ancient South American jungles.
I guess the budgets were bigger back then because today the globe trotting has all but vanished. I blame the economy and the restraints put on the writers. The suits have to stretch their dollars nowadays. Heaven forbid that they have to take a pay cut just to keep within budget. It’s better to kill off a highly paid veteran actor or banish them somewhere around the world where their storylines don’t need updated. Then just hire an aspiring actor working at scale. If they don’t jell as compelling characters then dispose of them or replace them…no harm no foul, correct? Just keep the payroll manageable so that the producers can keep their fancy cars, yachts and vacation homes.
I still enjoy watching DOOL even with the new young cast. I actually like them.
The older characters that departed the show were getting boring anyway. What else could the writers do with John Black, Dr. Marlena Evans and Tony Dimera that hadn’t already been beat to death? Make one of them a serial killer? Erase their memories and give them a new identity? Put them in a coma, or hide them on an island for the umpteenth time…?
The younger characters have actually injected new life blood into the former enemic plot devices. But it’s still about the families: Brady vs. Dimera vs. Kiriakis.
I’ve enjoyed the new cast even without the world hopping and super spy back stories. The Dimeras still mess with people’s lives
The women on DOOL are some of the most beautiful on TV, IMHO. I just wished they appeared as often sans clothes as do the males. Every episode has a ‘hunk’ without his shirt. Hey, the guys like eye candy too! Let’s see the ladies disrobe as frequently, okay? Please! We might not be the target demographic but believe me more men are watching nowadays than they admit. We don’t watch sports and hunting shows all the time. Guys think about sex in the afternoon too and then about every few minutes we’re thinking of sex again if one can believe the surveys.
However, some of the stories drag on and on and on. They’ve become so repetitive that they’ve become very frustrating to watch. I get it, some stories can last days on end but most of the conversations and arguments go in circles. They should add to the plot rather than keep going over the same info two weeks later. Why do they repeat so often? Just to refresh our memories? Or, maybe, help the Joanie-come-lately viewer catch up to the current events?
How often have you heard it said that a viewer missed a week or two of episodes only to return and the hadn’t missed a thing? Recently on DOOL Nicole and her sister talked in the park all week long about AJ and the Dimera family secrets. Then the following month Nicole’s sister spent entire episodes trying to get AJ to confess to those secrets. As of late she’s still trying to get him to confess something while he’s in the hospital recoving from a beating. Such plot tactics are just filler so that the characters can get face-time to earn their paychecks. So, yes, I blame the writers despite thin budgets.
You can only blame the economy so much.
I also understand that the female demographic is shrinking. More women have to earn a living to support their families during these hard times. They have to miss their soaps. But more men are stay at home dads. Or they are out of work and taking their spouse’s place in front of the TV set, too. I’m retired. I watch soaps. More men will too if the shows are good. Get more HOT women onboard. Give them more to do than just being lovers, moms, conniving backstabbers, or politicians. Then I won’t fast-forward. Let’s spark some fires under the writers to get them awake long enough to speed up the pacing of the shows. Reduce hackneyed plots which make the shows unwatchable. Become less boring and repetitive. Stop with all the awkward pauses, far off looks and embecilic facial expressions everytime somebody asks a simple question or prior to fade out going to a commercial. Add more humor to the stories. The goal should be to entertain NOT annoy!
The above are just a few steps to make viewing more enjoyable. If you got this far thanks for reading. If you’re a producer or writer please don’t let DOOL end up on the trash heap. If you’re a viewer–stay loyal! Write the producers and network bigwigs and tell them to save the soaps. There is too much reality programming on Primetime TV already. Don’t let Reality TV take over the daytime too!
i have watched em all. atwt, amc, GH, Y&R, GL, and the only one that has been great all these years 33 of them has been DOOL! NBC dont make the mistake of getting rid of the best!
I love Days too, I would hate if it was not on anymore. I’ve watched for several years and it is the only one I watch! I’m glad it staying on!
DOOL is one of my favorite parts of my day if I’m at work I tivo it or catch it on soapnet…thank goodness for that channel too…..If the show was cancelled it would really be a Lame thing to do considering how attached most viewers get to the actors I would really love it if I could even audition to be on the show. My family always says I missed my calling I’m the original drama queen…Sarah Burnet I got hooked on days when flipping thru the channels and saw a lady burried alive…(carley) been watching ever since ..LONG LIVE DAYS OF OUR LIVES…..Sammi is my favorite and I want her man Rafe to be mine : )
I have watched this show for 36 years as I was 14 when I started watching! WOW! lol I wont lie, I am addicted to this show even when it sux sometimes! lol……..nice little break from reality
This show has so much possibility but honestly I could write better story lines than those writers! The plot lines have been so lame! And the writers just don’t have any sense of justice with certain characters! EJ and Stephano need to pay somehow for their crimes! Gosh, throw them both in jail at least for a couple of years! And Carly – my gosh, they certainly could think up better story lines for her instead of making her the constant martyr for everyone and his brother…and turning her into a drug addict! James Scott is an excellent actor. Alison Sweeney really struggles, and Rafe is never believable. Replace the lousy actors!! And please get rid of the new Taylor! She was terribly miscast for that role! Geesh!!
How about bringing back Tony and Renea. My brother acted like they were family?
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL DOOL!!! I have been watching this for 23 years now, my dad got me and my sister watching it, I got my husband watching it and now my own daughters watch it. I LOVE DOOL. it is my one break from the insanity of life every night (I DVR it). I couldnt imagine not having my Days!
dool wuz ok til they got rid of tony dimera
I started watching Days in 1965 and have been with them all these years. I hope they have their contract renewed again. I enjoy the characters and very much miss all those who have left. I have watched many soaps in my time, but I feel Days has been the most enjoyable.
