New Line has closed a rights deal to remake the 1981 comedy Private Benjamin with Anna Faris playing the title role originated by Goldie Hawn. Amy Talkington will write the script originated by Charles Shyer, Nancy Meyers. and Harvey Miller. Mark Gordon will produce. Between the Scary Movie films and House Bunny, is there an actress more closely replicating Hawn’s comedy career than Faris?

Sad. Just sad.
I hope they shoot it in Los Angeles.
Jessica Simpson tried to a reimagining of this movie a few years ago with Major Movie Star and that went straight to DVD. Now Simpson is not an actress so it is no wonder it failed but why would they try it again? Between this and the Overboard remake with J-Lo who is also not an actress they really are going too far with this crap.
Sad that they should want to redo, remake or re-whatever “Private Benjamin” but Faris is definitely as close as you will get at the moment.
Funniest chick in the movie game. Love her.
I like the idea, love Anna Farris, but, I’m toying with the idea that this may be a netflix movie for me. Question, Why so many remakes? Writers can;t come up with something original? Smarten up people… Give us something new.
On behalf of writers everywhere – honestly, we are coming up with new ideas. The studios and audiences aren’t interested. Look at the number of spec scripts that have sold in the last 18 months.
Avatar proved that audiences ARE interested in new material. Despite some “been there done that” story criticisms, it wasn’t a remake, adaptation, reboot, nor unnecessary sequel and yet now it’s the number one grossing film of all time. The only people afraid of new material are chick sh*t studio execs. They’d rather tighten the purse strings and only dip into the money pool for a recognizable name. Remakes are the safest bet because they know people have basic human curiosity and will want to see how it compares to the original and/or source material. If nothing else, they are all but guaranteed the return on their investment and likely a little profit, so why take a single risk on a single piece of new material? Unless they care about the art of filmmaking, which they do NOT, they’re not going to try anything other than a sure bet. And that is why we have so many remakes and adaptations right now. And that is why writers are, like always, in the worst position of anyone in the industry right now.
Two words, idiot:
1) James.
2) Cameron.

This is the producers idea not the writers. No one wants anything but remakes and sequels. Writers everywhere have to pay the rent.
You’re right, writers don’t want to write or sell anything. The lack of quality movies these days (at the writing level) isn’t a supply problem, it’s a demand problem. The studios are slowly strangling the golden goose by only providing rehashed crap. In the meantime video games are eating our lunch.
Love Ms. Faris, but do we really need a remake of this movie. I mean….really?
These execs are so unbelievably devoid of innovation.
Anna is the queen of comedy! I’m psyched for her upcoming movie What’s Your Number and now this!! Anna is hilarious and can do no wrong.
Cute young blonde joins the army after husband dies on their wedding night, goes to Iraq, gets killed by IED. Hilarious.
Iraq movies are boxoffice poison. In this version, she stays home and gets killed by an IUD.
hahaha! funniest comment here.
When is Hollywood gonna get off their lazy asses and start making creating original material and stop ruining movies by redoing them?
i just rewatched this last week and commented to my friend that there was no one who could do it better than Goldie Hawn, and now this. So sad.
Anna Faris is a star. Plain and simple. She gets it. She’s not only hilarious, she’s no doubt one of the coolest chicks ever. I’ve met her once. So down to earth. A real sweet heart. New Line scored! I can’t wait for this movie!!
I agree, Farris is very funny. But the original film worked largely because of the era when it was made, the 1980′s. Same for Stripes. These are different times. We have are fighting two wars and women are being killed in combat. Not so funny. Not a great time to make a comedy about joining the army.
Well, THAT explains it. YOU met her, so she MUST be a star.
Wow. What absolute garbage. Why even bother remaking this movie?!
What next?! Remakes of old Pauly Shore movies!
new line used to make great and original movies, but long gone are those days…the machine has taken over and now toby emmerich is the yes man who will do whatever it takes to save his job

Anna is a comic genius. No matter what the material is she always makes me laugh and laugh hard.
Anna Faris is the absolute worst, painfully unfunny and forced in everything she’s in. Such a no talent.
And her face is rapidly going the way of Nicole Kidman. Anna, lay off the surgery and botox and lip fillers! You’re starting to look very scary.
Enough with the remakes!
Good casting, credit to the CD on this one.
Remaking Private Benjamin takes balls. Upholstered balls, that is.
Love Anna Faris, but wouldn’t Kate Hudson have been the more obvious choice?
While the original “Private Benjamin” was probably conceived during peace time, the concept of a wacky woman trying to make it in the military seemed funny.
Now women have served for many years and there’s nothing humorous about the wars going on right now, so really, I don’t see how this is going to work.
Want some original ideas? Ask me.
Can’t wait for the “Captain Ron” re-make!
now THEY have gone too far
well once i saw that henri bendel carries grayce by molly sims jewelry
i knew that NOTHING SEEMS TO MATTER ANYMORE
this is an insult to goldie hawn, who is still very much alive and kicking. anna faris needs to deflate her disgusting fake lips and come up with her own fucking projects. this reeks of desperation and flatters no one.
