Universal Pictures has set Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman to star in The Change-Up, the David Dobkin-directed body-switching comedy. Reynolds was also being courted for Universal’s supernatural comedy RIPD, but chose a comedy that has a priority for the studio since it bought the spec by The Hangover writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.
Bateman is a family man who accidentally swaps bodies with his best friend, a single slacker actor played by Reynolds. Each gets a glimpse at what he missed, and an appreciation of what he had. It’s like Freaky Friday, except here, the married guy knows his pal is sleeping with his wife. Reynolds and Bateman each recently moved to CAA. Neal Moritz and Dobkin are producing.

Reynolds is hilarious and becoming a huge star…. I wonder who landed Bateman this job- his old agency or new? Whatever the case this should be good. This could be a “breakthrough” role for Bateman. What I mean is that Bateman could be at the top of the top if this goes well. A lot of us criticized Bateman and his move…let’s see what happens.
it was the old agency that got him the movie so his new agency has nothing to do with it. Ironic isnt it?
Dobkin? Sounds like Jason and Ryan are in for a nice relaxing shoot. Wonder who they pissed off.
How about Bateman in RIPD instead? If he survives Round 1 with the Dobs, that is.
Back on Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, I pegged Ryan Reynolds as this generations Tom Hanks (Same comic timing/sensibility). I could watch Jason Bateman read the phonebook. He’s vastly under-rated. I’m glad Arrested Development gave him a career resurgence. Here’s a clip of him talking about classical music (of all things) and he’s still incredibly engaging and watchable in. Jason Bateman is obsessed with classical music.
Tried to watch the youtube. Didn’t work.
Thanks!
You SHOULD have written “It’s Freaky Friday, except here, it doesn’t suck”. That would have been more acurate.
But seriously, count me in.
This one has ‘can’t miss’ written all over it. Big fan of both actors.
PS – Great clip Acheron
I like Reynolds and Bateman so maybe they’ll make this work on some perverse level, but a body switching comedy? For grown ups?
Ew.
sweet, body-switchin! – never seen that before – can’t wait – totally worth getting my ass off the couch and to the theater for $45 with me and my gal… oh wait, no, that’s right, same idea i’ve seen 400 fucking times…
love both of these guys but for real the idea is shit sandwich and retardedly (full) played out – i love when studios do something to make me hate people i used to like – it shows what power they still have.
love ryan reynolds…but why is he starring in this tired, old, done a million and one times plot pic?
I’m all for dude comedies, but…body-switching? Barf. Give me something I haven’t seen before.
You mean like sanctimonious sniping from the sidelines regarding a project you haven’t read? Haven’t seen *that* before.
Did read it. Sucked.
They are filming in Atlanta and [eep!!!] they considered our house for the house of Jason Bateman. Not sure who’s they will choose yet, but it is awesome to even be considered!
