EXCLUSIVE: Made flush by vampires and werewolves, Twilight Saga maker Summit Entertainment is trying witches. Summit made a pre-emptive mid-six figures acquisition of The Last Witch Hunter, a Cory Goodman pitch that has franchise potential, and the attachment of Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov. The protagonist is one of the last remaining witch hunters, a breed that keeps the population of witches and warlocks in check. They are about to repopulate in a major way unless he can stop them. Bekmambetov is making a deal to produce and be attached as director. Adam Goldworm is exec producer. Goodman’s credits include the upcoming Paul Bettany-starrer Priest and a Spyglass remake of David Cronenberg’s The Brood. WME and Aperture made the sale.

Um…am I missing something? I don’t understand the pictures.
I guess they randomly put famous movie/TV witches as an homage but it made it look like these people are actually cast when they are not.
Please tell me that timur will still be making Wanted with James McAvoy — even though Jolie is not in it — it’s a great franchise and James McAvoy is able to headline wanted 2.
Timur only wanted to make it w/her involvement.
Mark Millar, who wrote the comic, said a few weeks ago that the movie is still a go for later this year – without Jolie but with McAvoy and Bekmambetov. They’re tweaking the script to write the Jolie character out and replace her with another character from the comic book.
And BTW, let’s not have any Jolie bashing on this one. She’s not doing the sequel because she doesn’t think it makes sense for her character to be brought back from the dead. She passed on it even though it would have meant one hell of a huge payday for her – certainly more than any other actress can command these days. It was more than most actors for that matter.
The Last Witch Hunter? Sounds a lot like this polish book series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_witcher
What a stupid pitch. For one thing it’s not very dramatic: mammalian populations grow over many years. What would the tagline be? “Unless our hero can stop them, the population of witches will double in 50 years.” But more importantly, it’s quite horrific in its association, not only with witch-hunting in the Middle Ages, but of the idea of population control of sentient beings (I’m assuming the witches and warlocks are people?). The Pharaoh of Egypt threw Israelite baby boys to the crocodiles when they grew too numerous. Ethnic cleansings, pogroms and massacres throughout history have been conducted for the same reason. And it’s one thing to have ONE evil wizard who must be fought, or even a whole coven; but to make a whole race of people the bad guys is just wrong.
I don’t see how any studio head could see this pitch and not laugh with derision. I thought this was the kind of stuff that lands on Hollywood’s slush pile or made into TV movies on the SyFy channel.
Sounds like the Supernatural TV show, except they just hunt witches
What do the photos have to do with this story?
Are you casting the movie as a fan boy wet dream?
I, for one, am glad to see Adam Goldworm making it big with his own company. He has always been a smart and strong executive and manager, and this just goes to show that his instincts are still dead-on. Well done, sir.
Lookin’ forward to the eventual sale of THE LAST SCREENWRITER HUNTER… set in present day, it follows a group of genuine film enthusiasts on a quest to find a writer with an original idea.
Of course there will be plenty of chills and thrills — as an angry mob of development assassins intent on remaking all the remakes set out to make sure they don’t succeed in this quest.
I am so glad that someone has decided in their infinate wisdom that fictional monsters like vampires and werewolves getting the hero treatment was not enough… and that they should take a group of people that actually existed, and that actually tortured and tormented innocent people in the name of ending witchcraft and make them heroes too… Especially since many of the ‘accused” were fingered for the economic and social gain it broought the accuser.
Lookig forward to the new teen hearthrob, young Torquemada.
And to think Twilight dollars were used to buy the Oscars.
So what is next after this? The Last Muslim Hunter? The Last Jew Hunter? Who will be safe? To the producers of this, I say this. I am a witch. I am NOT one of the kind and gentle types. You have a witch hunter? Send him out. I will not need any help from my Gods(or Goddesses) for this one. Remington will do quite nicely.
Seriously, where do they get off villanizing an entire group of people? Or are they pandering to the Christian Right? What belief path does the Chairman of the Board follow? Is this somebodies idea of how to proselytize and recruit more for their team?
I agree with Herne, although I prefer Winchester over Remington!
Winchester will work just fine, Bubba! So will Colt, Sako and Barrett… Bring him on!!
I should have asked what belief path does the producer follow…I bet if the series was to be called “The Last Jew Hunter”, the anti-defamation league would be pulling out all the stops to stop him. Not to mention his family in Philadelphia….
Adam Goldworm is the BIGGEST self-righteous tool in the management business. He is a complete douche.
ha! So true.
A complete agree. No one should never work with him or his clients.
Not true….he is a bit cocky but he’s a good guy
WARLOCK: Guardian of knowledge, judge and protector of the innocent.
False Christian definition: Oath-breaker, caller of spells.
WITCH: Noble healer, comforter and teacher.
False Christian definition: Evil devil consort, poisoner and spiteful old woman.
I, Peter Stone Warlock, look forward to the day when Christianity is exposed for what it is. An evil myth designed to lie and destroy the truth.
Summit Entertainment should make a better attempt. “The FIRST of the Christian Hunters”.
