Love this show.
Not surprised. This show is cheap for FOX, and pulls in decent ratings.
The thing that cracks me up is people actually believe this is “reality”. The restaurants are definitely setup to look shabby, for him to fix them up. Health code violations alone make it unlikely these places were in THAT bad of shape before he showed up.
Not true. I’d been to one of the restaurants featured in his first American season on KITCHEN NIGHTMARES – both before and after. And, incidentally, they were unable to keep up the improvements (the owner/”chef” was too arrogant and re instituted his old menu after the make over…and they are now out of business.
Obviously, you haven’t done any “fine dining” in Lancaster, California.
While of course some of the show is staged like all the drama of their “re-launch” nights when it looks for a while it might be a disaster then they always pull through. But you obviously dont know the restaurant business if you think the dirty kitchens are staged. And Halth Code Violations? LOL. You have no idea how lazy those people are, they dont even try to inspect in many places.
The guy is an asshole. Why he doesn’t get his ass kicked hard and often is a mystery.
The sad part about ‘Kitchen Nightmares’ is that discerning viewers can turn on BBC America and watch ‘Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares’. If I were Gordon Ramsay, I’d be ashamed of myself after taking part in a dumbed down US version of the very well done and quite realistic UK version. He’s not only making himself look like an idiot, but he’s also devaluing the UK product.
Glorifying abuse and abusers. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
iamnoah– thanks for your interest and post. I have actually worked on Kitchen Nightmares — I’ll verify that the restaurants are absolute WRECKS and could tell you stories you wouldn’t believe — we rarely touch the places before they go to camera.
Ages ago I developed photographs. One client was a health inspector, so I saw first hand his photos of the restaurants he inspected.
Every single one had mice, bugs, hair, dirt, uncovered food… just horrifying.
I’ve also worked as a waitress in several restaurants when I was in college and just after. You can be sure that at least 50% of the time you eat out (especially Mexican) you will have drops of the cook’s sweat on your food. The kitchens are steaming hot and they sweat like pigs.
Chinese anyone? A friend of mine found a chewed up piece of gum in her eggroll. And a place close by (one of the very popular Chinese buffet places) had a worker photographed out in the back alley stomping on garlic cloves while still wearing his dirty sneakers.
NOTHING surprises me about dirty kitchens, even the decent restaurants, unless there is an ‘open’ kitchen that you can see into.
And God forbid you send something back on a busy night. I have seen very creative and barf-inducing ways the waitstaff gets even with chronic whiners who keep sending back food.
“Fiesta Sunrise” anyone?!
Ramsay is a legend…
He brings places up to something normal people call STANDARD!
I’ve worked in catering, and trust me… i’ve seen worse kitchens than on K.N.!
I cannot comprehend the problem some people have with chef Ramsay. My belief is that he is a great guy and perfect at his job. I would be very pleased if that man had time to teach me how to cook properly.
I think Ramsay is cool. At least he is trying to get the food industry up to a great standard which is more than his critics are doing. Ive worked in kitchens in England and was horrified by what went on. Its about time someone is trying to do something about it all. I would love to sing in any of his restraunts as that,s what i do now. You can see a lot that goes on with being a singer. His critics should try doing what he does, he,s a genius in my eyes. Keep going Gordon, we all love you and your shows, more please.
