Jon Stewart last night performed a comic tour de force imitating Glenn Beck. If anyone has video of Glenn Beck parodying Jon Stewart, send it along…

Once again, JS proves he’s not just the funniest guy on TV, but also the smartest. Night after night he (along with his incredible team of writers) finds a way to educate and entertain. His interview last week with former Bush speech writer Marc Theissen was the best, most devastating interview Theissen has or will likely face as he promotes and defends the Liz Cheney wing of the RNC (their latest BS attack- lawyers who represented Gitmo detainees and who are now working at the Dept. of Justice are somehow Al Queda supporters- even Ken Starr thinks that criticism is out of bounds).
The JS parody of Beck is priceless. I kept thinking- how do all those people at FAUX NEWS, the people behind the scenes, how do they feel knowing they are working for, promoting, assisting the clown called Beck? How does Beck feel when he sees someone like JS or others call him on his calculated outrage, his logical inconsistencies, his false, inaccurate statements, his hyperbolic reactions to any proposal offered by the President- how does Beck react? He won’t- he’ll keep doing his act (it’s made him very wealthy) until he finally melts down on air and symbolically offs himself. He got pretty close last week with the “Massa” interview, but his time is coming- Beck is an unstable, delusional, dangerous nutjob who will eventually destroy himself. Still, watching JS do his thing- priceless and funny as hell.
I weep for those who refer to Jon Stewart (JS) as somehow proving “he’s not just the funniest guy on TV, but also the smartest.” Obviously “those people” never saw (or have forgotten) how terible he was when he filled in for Tom Snyder years ago. You take away his shield of low expectation and lame humor that is The Comedy Central network and he’s out on the street corner turning tricks for subway tokens. IMHO.
you weird, weird little troll. that was a tour de force sketch.
As much as I enjoy Jon Stewart I doubt he would even approve of being called the “funniest guy on TV, but also the smartest.” And because someone disagrees with your position does not make them a troll.
Glenn Beck is an actor, I can not believe he means half the shit that he spews out of his mouth. It is the people that take him seriously this Nation has to worry about
No, just because someone disagrees doesn’t make them a troll. They’re a troll because in the face of a clearly and demonstrably intelligent, bullet-proof, and hysterical sketch, their only response was that a decade ago in a temporary position he wasn’t funny.
Wow…its funny how people feel the need to dismiss Jon Stewart, they must somehow have forgotten his appearance on “crossfire” or the numerous satirical sketches he’s done that serve to educate the masses who actually watch comedy central…funny how those people would look down on a comedy station for being a comedy station, as if it comedy was not a valid medium….It’s really funny how “some people” choose to ignore the facts and/or inconsistencies thereof of their chosen gurus, as if perpetual and deliberate ignorance were something to be proud of…..I bet “those People” are waiting for sara palin to run for president! hahaha
Go fuck yourself
What an odd, odd comment from ‘Von Bruno’.
Who would think that a host’s performance when green, over 17 years ago, was relevant to a comment about the same host’s *current* abilities?
It is akin to saying about, say, Steve Martin, circa 1978: “Obviously “those people” [actually, the phrase doesn't need to be in quotes, as you are repeating your own reference to a certain subset of "people", and are using the phrase un-ironically and un-sarcastically,] never saw how terible [sic] Steve Martin was when he was making balloon animals at Knott’s Berry Farm years ago.”
Wow. For a d-bagger you have an impressive grasp for the nuances of comedy, which is unfortunate because that’s how the rest of us pinkos tell you apart – no sense of humor. Not having a sense of humor is a common denominator among the schizophrenic… and the stupid. “Smart” is something you become after you stop playing with your poop long enough to actually go to a library (you know, the socialist option to Barnes & Noble) and cultivate what’s called an “informed” opinion.
BTW, the comedic device I’m currently employing is called sarcasm. How does it feel to come off as being so dumb that someone is compelled to explain their sarcasm? Personally, I’d rather be turning tricks for subway tokens on a corner than be that dumb… or that mentally unstable… and in your slippers. Also, thanks for the “weep”. We’re flattered. (IMHO!)
Niiiiiiiiiice! Should I explain the sarcasm or do you think he can google it?? Well said!
What a “Fox Newsy” thing to say. Stewart is a comedian I think he might be set, he may have found the right network for his craft. What is the name of that network again….Oh yeah…..COMEDY CENTRAL. What a stupid place for a comedian to do comedy. Then again Glen Beck sells Gold and spews his one sided mindless word drool for…..FOX NEWS!! What is their motto again….FAIR AND BALANCED? Glen Beck is as far away from Fair or Balanced as Stewart is from Walter Cronkite.
If Comedy Central dissapeared today….Stewart would continue to do exactly what he does…comedy. Anywhere….any comedy club…any town…any format.
If Fox News one day actually became a NEWS channel. Glen Beck would be locked up and fitted with a straight jacket, exactly as he should be.
I suppose when Glenn Beck was working for CNN, he wasn’t so bad.
No back then he was just a buffoon and a shitty journalist. Now he’s a despicable cocksucker.
@blowhard
Normally, ad hominem attacks and profanity are turn-offs in a civil-toned discussion–but that was so nicely and dryly delivered that I almost fell off my chair laughing. My wife couldn’t stand to watch the Colbert report–until she finally ‘got’ that he was making fun of right-wing windbags, and that his politics were much more moderate than his character’s. I was surprised to see that Fox News’s ratings were so poor. 2M out of 330M Americans. If Fox is the highest rated network, is ANYBODY watching the news anymore?
stewart is a bimbo…if you’ve seen him in serious interviews where he can’t read his answers off a teleprompter, the guy is a serious airhead…I mean really, really dumb
his career in comedy was going nowhere until someone spotted that he had the exact lack of qualities necessary to be a fake newsreader
“bimbo?” “airhead?” You’ve obviously never seen Stewart on either side of an interview. He’s one of the quickest and well-read comic minds working today.
This is probably the most off-the-mark comment I’ve ever read on this site. Have you actually SEEN Stewart in serious interviews? The man is astonishingly sharp.
Please link to ANY piece of tape that shows us this “airhead” side.
lol, touched a nerve
I’ve seen Stewart, I believe it was a Frontline or other PBS show and he was trying to talk about the media and politics and floundering badly–as in, incoherent, not really making a coherent point, stammering and lost for words, and in the end sounding like a college freshman put on the spot by his prof (and let’s face it, even on Crossfire he spent most of his time shooting his own foot off and just being snotty)
“astonishingly sharp”? by that standard I guess we’re all brilliant, thanks for the compliment! feels good knowing I am smarter than a guy who has only ever been funny when he has a staff of writers feeding him lines, most of which are cheap shots
you are way off with your comments. The reason Stewart in your words “was not making a coherent point” was because the kind of interview/style/questions he was dealing with are exactly the kind of thing he has a problem with and satirizes on his show.
Do you really think this video is evidence of someone who is just a fake newsreader with good writers…? We need a hell of a lot more of what Stewart does these days. Social commentary and satirization is in short supply in a country where we follow only ideologies and figureheads.
LOL, I saw him live four times and he is the smartest man standing. Short, but smart. You want to eat pablum and suck the straw of stupidity??? Keep on with your Beck, Bullshit, and Limbaugh school of idiocy.
Jon Stewart is LAME. I’m amazed how the Lefties are so obsessed with Glenn Beck. They just can’t seem to realize that their nasty comments and put downs only make the guy even bigger with people who hate the MSN. Beck has truly gotten under the Lefties skin and it’s creating a huge rash. FOX NEWS is laughing all the way to the bank. Beck isn’t going away, so the best we can hope for is that both Stewart and Bill Maher die on-camera doing put down bits about Glenn Beck. Really fellas, it’s getting tiresome and BORING.
that was an excellent sketch. beck needs to be skewered: he’s an unstable demagogue working for an awful corporation. it’s what you do – you take the piss out of him and wait for him to implode.
Kind of like Olbermann?
He skewered Olbermann, too, buddy.
I agree totally, swimtwobirds. Jon was BRILLIANT. And this Leftie would love nothing more than for GB to get as much publicity as possible. It’s important that as many people as possible are exposed to his ilk on the right. Maybe then the sensible conservatives (if there are any left) will find their balls and take back their party.
At least Jon Stewart is consistant.
Beck was for something on CNN and now he is against something on Fox.
He takes forever to make a point and then retreads it on another subject. Please, if you are a fan, tell him to get to the heart of the matter because he just bores me to tears with the hyperbolic brake-stands.
Lots of smoke coming out his ass-end but he doesn’t cover much ground.
did you just bash other peoples’ hatred towards a tv personality, and then wish for the on camera death of 2 tv personalities. um, hello… you hypocrite.
IT’S TRUE – FOX news does laugh its way to the bank… ALSO TRUE – Nixon (who Roger Ailes brags about working for), in a letter to Haldeman, lamented about not firing Ailes sooner and referred to him as “second rate” (and implied he was even lower)… ALSO TRUE – Ailes is a chicken-hawk who said he didn’t go to Vietnam because of a bullshit eyesight excuse and yet he sees well enough to have security monitors all over his home and office and has had a career in tele”VISION”. ALSO TRUE – Glenn Beck is certifiably insane… ALSO TRUE – it’s illegal for a foreign entity to own an American news network and that’s why Rupert Murdoch became a citizen, so he could prey on Americans’ fears (and wallets)… ALSO TRUE – Rupert Murdoch’s face looks like a dead camel’s scrotum (or “teabag”, if you will)… ALSO TRUE – we’ll be on the lookout for the pending headline regarding the auto-erotic asphyxiation of “Rip M 2 Shreds” in his Teletubbie costume and surrounded by underage mountain goat porn… ALSO TRUE – Stewert, Colbert, and Maher are our homeboys and we got their back, so blow it out your ass (it’s where your head is).
Just the facts, FOX. Just the facts.
Jon Stewart in this episode is Genius. Tell your friends about this episode so it will become of of the most talked about stories of the week, if not year. It is that important!
Brilliant.
Genius. Brilliant. Hysterical. YES!
This is already Steven Colbert’s schtick. Way to steal from your comrade.
I think to call it Colbert’s shtick is to miss the difference in audience between the shows – Colbert plays a character that’s borderline slapstick, a poorly drawn caricature of the Bill O’Reilly types. Jon Stewart is a brilliantly satirical genius who happened to frame one episode after Beck in a way that is much more subtle and intellectual than the pro-America right-wing character Colbert plays.
And to the person who talked about Jon Stewart as a “lefty” – that’s just blind partisan hatred. Stewart gets what most Americans don’t: the system is broken, regardless of who is in power. He makes fun of the Dems’ seeming inability to pass a single piece of legislation (he did a brilliant back-and-forth with John Oliver suggesting there should be some sort of bicameral meeting place to debate and decide on legislation). Sure, he pokes fun at FNC, but it’s not political – people like Glenn Beck are simply crazy people. It’s not like MSNBC is any better, and Stewart pokes fun at Chris Matthews all the time – the sad truth is, we live in an increasingly polarized society where people self-select the news they watch and only want to hear hardline opinions that reinforce their ridiculous beliefs.
And Jon Stewart gets it, and makes fun of it.
got it, he makes fun of Democrats for not pursuing a hard left agenda *successfully*, that makes him not a lefty…go sit in the corner, now
Agreed. Jon’s best is as “the detached observer”.
Sort of funny, but John Stewart was better when he was more concerned with telling jokes than he was trying to get glorious applause from his audience.
You missed the point of this sketch, I’m afraid.
Glenn Beck does that for a living, and he was parodying Beck in this segment. Glorious applause aside, the job was done.
How can anyone defend that drug-addled moron Glenn Beck? Republicans should be embarrassed by him–and a great many are. Even the Malkins, Coulters and Limbaughs are ashamed of this guy.
You found that funny? I’m mystified at what passes for comedy these days. But Stewart is only ‘singing to the choir.’ Few other than immature male slackers and those left-of-center are regular viewers anyway. His influence and popularity is quite overestimated by the same media types who hailed the success of the now bankrupt and defunct “Air America.” I guess the nameless “Stewart fan” doesn’t do his fact-checking when assessing CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC and PBS. He simply wants to attack Fox News, or as he calls it “Faux News”—how creative. These folks keep trying but it doesn’t work. The truth is the “liberal main-stream media” has a long history of constructed events, blatant false reporting and deeply entrenched political bias. Remember Dan Rather? If one wishes to hear anything other than the brainwashing offered up by the left-wing media you have to watch Fox News. Lets remind everyone that if the nation is split somewhat evenly politically, then Fox News boasts conservatives, moderates and dare I say Liberals (who now describe themselves as “progressive” to shield themselves from public ridicule) in its viewership. It trounces the competition and consistently dominates nearly every cable network.
Bret Baier’s exclusive and much talked about interview with Barack Obama scored huge ratings this week. He is the only journalist willing to ask that pathological liar any tough questions. In fact, those of us who viewed the interview were shocked that Bret Baier knew more about the health care bill than the President. You just don’t see reporters ask tough questions of this administration and congress on CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC or PBS. Journalism is dead on those networks. How many conservative contributors regularly appear on those other networks? I can only think of a couple like Pat Buchanan and Bill Bennett. On the other hand, Fox News regularly features outspoken liberalss, Alan Colmes, Bob Bechel, Juan Williams, Geraldo Rivera, Ellis Henican, Marc Lamont Hill and Mara Liasson to name just a few. Shockingly, executives at National Public Radio recently asked Mara Liasson, NPR’s top political correspondent, to reconsider her regular appearances on Fox News because of what they perceived as the network’s political bias. That’s an intelligent move, remove a liberal viewpoint from the highest rated cable news network because you consider them biased—brilliant! In fact, what the left wing doesn’t like is that Fox News gives a strong conservative voice heard nowhere else on television—and that’s the truth. They don’t want to hear opposing points of view. Anytime someone offers a conservative point-of-view on the other networks, they are quickly marginalized.
Let me also enlighten “Stewart Fan” regarding the nature of the programming on Fox News: Glenn Beck is an opinion-driven show. It is not a “news show.” I find it humorous that MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews don’t receive the same ridicule and scrutiny—probably because nobody is watching. But of course, Keith Olbermann is unintentionally funnier than either Glenn Beck or Jon Stewart. And poor Chris Matthews is still trying to shake that “thrill that ran up his leg” when he thought of Barack Obama! Now that’s what I call comedy.
The numbers don’t lie:
Top 3 Cable News March 17:
The O’Reilly Factor: 3,650,000 viewers (932,000 in 25-54)
Special Report with Bret Baier: 2,907,000 viewers (635,000 in 25-54)
Glenn Beck: 2,465,000 viewers (679,000 in 25-54)
Total Day
FNC – 1,444,000 viewers
CNN – 415,000 viewers
MSNBC –373,000 viewers
CNBC – 206,000 viewers
HLN – 298,000 viewers
Prime Time
FNC – 2,851,000 viewers
CNN – 653,000 viewers
MSNBC –869,000 viewers
CNBC – 211,000 viewers
HLN –590,000 viewers
Well, if it’s the most watched news network, wouldn’t that mean that fox is in fact ‘mainstream?’ I certainly wouldn’t call the most watched news network ‘alternative.’
I think it’s right that Bret Baier, though relatively rude, did ‘stick it’ to Obama, asking him awkward questions and so forth. This would be commendable if he’d done the same thing to Bush when he spoke to him about Iraq. He didn’t, and essentially gave that President a hot stone massage on the air.
If you have a working memory, it’s not hard to remember to fox news used to be the most chest thumping, rah rah, USA USA jingoist network; the moment you have a democrat in the white house, immediately it becomes a staunch watchdog paranoia machine. And of course even now the concern about ‘spending,’ etc. is an embodied lie; perhaps health care will be costly, that’s unclear, but it’s certainly going to cost a hell of a lot less than it did to level Iraq and Afghanistan, and these are endeavors (at least when Bush was behind the wheel) that I think it’s common knowledge fox essentially helped orchestrate.
AaronSch,
Why do you hate America?
jesus do you guys ever get tired of being dumb? that’s what a partisan is, someone smart enough that being dumb is a choice
Stewart is another America-hating, Odumbo-the-Messiah-loving lefty who hates Beck and Fox because of their massive numbers. Do you know how much Beck/O’Reilly/Fox beats the mainstream media outlets EVERY NIGHT?? My God, Olbermann gets beat like a rented mule; the man should hide his head in the sand.
Yeah….
I am sure he cries himself to sleep on his money stuffed pillow every night. You’re right it’s probably jealousy! You are a good example of why some animals eat their young.
Jon Stewart is a flaming liberal jew, and people who enjoy snarky comedy have grown tired of his antics. Colbert and Stewart will wind up in the DVD graveyard with Reno 911 and Wanda Dykes.
Somebody needs anger management. Why so hateful?
“Flaming liberal Jew”? You mean like 90% of the great comedians of the past century?
imjewishforthejokes–
I love you.
Years ago a great movie called “Network” gave us Howard Beale, a ranting mentally unstable lunatic screaming about the madness of modern life.
For several years now, first CNN, and now FOX “News” have presented a very lame, very pale version in the form of Beck. Yes, unwiped assholes and clamidia-coated coozes think he has something important to say. So did some Germans in the twenties think that Hitler and the NSDP had similar things of like importance to say. Beck is nothing but a tool, a corporate toady, and a liar.
What John Stewart did was brilliant. A well aimed tomatoe at a bloviating moron.
oh jesus the holocaust why didn’t I see it coming
beck is no different at this point than olbermann or maddow, Network prefigured the whole modern raging partisan idiot thing that has been underway for over a decade
In total Viewers, Fox News was the #2 ranked cable network last week in primetime, averaging 233,000 viewers behind USA. MSNBC was #26, CNN was #32, and HLN was #37. In total day, FNC was #4, CNN was #29, MSNBC was #33, and HLN was #35.
The above is from mediabistro.com
Like him or not, believe him or not, Beck gives people information they get nowhere else. Curious minds want information to mull over, think through, question. If Beck were a lefty, he’d be given awards for questioning authority.
this was funny when south park and SNL did it months and months ago.
I don’t give a flying font what you think of Glenn Beck, but instead of taking cheap shots at conservatives to prove that you are cool to your Hollywood friends, Ms. Finke, why don’t you do some of that “investigative reporting” that you claim to do so well and check out Mr. Beck’s claims. If you would take the time, you would realize that many things he predicted would happen under President Obama’s rule are coming true, and it is the country that is suffering because of his agenda. If you are going to inject partisan politics into your site, please do us all a favor and take you head out of your a$$ long enough to cover it fairly.
“beck needs to be skewered: he’s an unstable demagogue working for an awful corporation.”
Obama needs to be skewered: he’s an unstable demagogue working for an awful corporation (SEIU).
I guess the endless parade of unfunny Bush jokes made everyone on the left get tired of jokes about politicians..
I caught most of this sketch and tried to find some humour in it, but sorry, except for the occasional chuckle, I found the whole thing pretty sad. It appears JS will do anything to try to poke fun at him but actually Glenn Beck is funnier than JS when he isn’t even trying.
Even though I’m Conservative (NOT always Republican)I found the scetch very funny. Beck has seemed unstable to me for a long time. I totally expect him to freak out one day and suffer a massive break down on live TV. Wonder if FOX would break for commercial or just let it ride – I also wonder why CNN brought him to TV in the first place.
I just want to watch when he does finally lose it for good.
The whole crew at The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is brilliant. And while I think Jon’s previous (and shorter) parody of Beck, from a few months ago, was better, the payoff of deconstructing Conservative Libertarian was inspired spoofery. The Daily Show appears on a network called Comedy Central, implying something you should not take too seriously. That’s a bit more sensible than Beck appearing on a channel with the word “News” in its title.
stewart was brilliant. rarely has a douche deserved his comeuppance more.
Its funny how we attempt to discredit the wisdom and honor of our founders simply because they onwed slaves when we today so happily fund China’s slavery by shopping at Walmart. People in China are asssumed to be given rights by their government and NOT by God – and so they don’t have freedom of speech nor of religion and government will limit their freedom as they see fit. Is’nt that slavery as well (slavery to an oppressive government), and aren’t we supporting those slave masters by paying them to build our products in the worst of conditions without proper safety gear and polluting their environment in the process? and yet we turn a blind eye because we benefit from the low cost of the Chinese product. Well, many of our founders owned slaves in a time when slavery was legal and though many Christians opposed it, the competitive advantage that owning slaves offered for platation owners made it impossible to stay in business if you freed you slaves (unless the whole country freed the slaves at the same time). Gee, doesn’t that resemble the illegal immigrant exploitation in America today as well as the Chinese slave expoitation? Yet we discredit their other veiws on good government simply becasue the succumbed to the pre-existing insurmountable and pressures of their time that we ourselves mimmick today with the chinese and illegal immigrants because of monetary advantages.
Rob,
Would you like some cheese with your whine? Lighten up, this article is about the brilliance of the parody – no need to look for deeper meanings …
At this stage I think it can be safely assumed I’m not one to suck up to Jon Stewart, but, God, was he on fire with this one. Seriously, he deserves some sort of award for his performance here. I guess Jon was as mad as hell and he wasn’t going to take it anymore. The result was the best work Jon has done since the early days of the Iraq fiasco. And what an inviting target Jon was taking off after! I think the Neanderthals and the schoolyard bully types are projecting their own totalitarian impulses when they compare Obama to Hitler and Stalin. It must really burn their britches that a black man who is more intelligent and urbane than they’ll ever be is President. I’m not, God knows, an uncritical regarder of Obama, but I think it was very important that a black person be President, putting the ugly past of the U.S. behind them once and for all. And this commie/fascist stuff from the Yahoo camp is hilarious. Medicare in Scandinavia and England(and good old Canada) – that sure led to Siberia and concentration camps, didn’t it? It was, however, Jon Stewart’s protege Steve Colbert who later got off the most withering shot of the night. Colbert noted Beck going on about the ideas of ‘social equality’ and ‘social justice’ in many churches being the merry path to serfdom with Stalin and Hitler waiting hand-in-hand at the very end. Colbert observed drily,”When I think of social equality and social justice I think of Hitler and Stalin.” The next sound you hear is that of the shrill hate-Obama rhetoric being lowered into the grave. Priceless. Jon Stewart’s performance this night was one for the ages – long may it live in YouTube posterity. Greg Cameron, Surrey, B.C., Canada
I am not fan of Jon Stewart, I am a Republican and a conservative but this was funny.
Perhaps the most profound thing in this parody is the extremely poignant message itself:
Glen Beck makes the argument that liberals ultimately want the most extreme form of those ideas: Socialism (or Communism). But if that argument is valid, then Republicans ultimately want the most extreme form of THEIR ideas: Totalitarian Theocracy.
It’s a valid point.
And if the Republicans shrug it off, they must necessarily shrug off Beck’s case, too, for it’s the very same thing.
Sorry PAUL, I don’t hate America. I love this country, however, I respect the CONSTITUTION that has preserved our liberties for over 200 years. What I hate PAUL, is a left-wing radical agenda which chooses to take control of private industry.
You know, originally I thought that Glenn Beck was a bit unhinged myself. That is, until I began to personally fact-check what he has been saying about this administration and the people who surround President Obama. I suggest you check the veracity of his statements. That’s something that those who denigrate Mr. Beck fail to do—or refuse to do—rather, they choose to attack his character. But that has been the modus operandi of Democrats and liberal media elitists like Jon Stewart for years. They can’t argue with the facts so they attack the individual. Many of the people who are in Mr. Obama’s “sphere of influence” are left-wing radicals—SOCIALISTS and I don’t want my country to be “transformed” by their ideology. They know the country is mostly center-right and they have sought to obfuscate the truth in order to advance that agenda. That’s not paranoia—that’s simply the truth.
By the way, I’m gay , I’m jewish and I’m a conservative. Just so that you don’t try to stereotype me as a bible-thumping, racist, nazi, right-winger in order to minimize what I believe.
