Yes, Marvel Studios made Chris Evans an offer to play Captain America. But I hear that the testing process will continue because the actor is conflicted about jumping into another superhero role, after playing Johnny Storm/Human Torch in two Fantastic Four installments. This could certainly be bargaining table posturing, because Marvel drives the toughest deals in town. But other actors have turned away from big superhero movie roles. They include Heath Ledger, who turned down Spider-Man because he didn't want to be typecast or sign for three movies. (He later came back for an Oscar-winning turn as The Joker in The Dark Knight). Josh Hartnett turned down the chance to play Superman several years ago for similar reasons, even though the 3-picture pact could have paid him nearly $100 million. Marvel is offering far less, and asking for 9 options.
Will Chris Evans Play 'Captain America'?

Comments On Deadline Hollywood are monitored. So don't go off topic, don't impersonate anyone, don't get your facts wrong, and don't bore me.
Take it Chris, you’re career is not exactly gangbusters at the moment.
I hope he accepts. He was great in Sunshine and Street Kings. I think he could do a great job with this role, too.
Is it too much to ask they actually choose someone who actually resembles Captain America? Who can act? Evans portrayal of Johnny Storm was one dimensional and boring.
Jimmy. Come on now. Don’t you think you’re asking for just a BIT much??
Evans casting was the one good thing about the Fantastic Four franchise. Sure he had crap lines (like everyone else) but he did what he could with them and was the only person that captured their character.
In terms of Captain America, he’s much better than most of the names being thrown around. However, I think Marvel are looking for someone too young and too pretty for the role. Whoever they cast is going to have to order Downey Jr. around and it’s just not going to work if the actor doesn’t have a commanding presence.
Liam Neeson should play Cap
No the filmmakers interpretation of Johnny Storm and the Fantastic Four were one dimensional and boring. Evans has proven his chops in other films since. So far, he’s the absolute best candidate for the role, and is capable of standing next to Downey Jr., Sam Jackson and others in an Avengers film. This is by far the best display of smart casting so far by Marvel. All the other were weak choices with limited range. Evans presents the best case scenario, especially with a conceptually challenged director, Evans has already cut his teeth on the Fantastic Four, with weak team, so he can hold up his end of the bargain… Now all they need to do is find a better director to make the film.
Bad choice. They need a real actor like Downey jr in Iron Man. They should have cast Ryan Phillippe or Cahnning tatum before Evans. Chris Evans is too silly. More of a romantic comedy guy. Fantastic 4 stunk. Thor and now Captain America ? How many is Marvel going to wreck ?
They should put in a big offer to someone like Ryan Gosling, bulk him up and maybe this would be interesting. He won’t do it, but at least he can act. These other guys are soooooooo boring.
Have you seen Gosling lately? He’s already pretty built.
lol!
Gosling would actually be a really good choice.
I agree completely. That’s Gosling’s the best name anyone’s ever mentioned. I forgot all about that kid.
They need a real actor like Downey jr in Iron Man. They should have cast Ryan Phillippe or Cahnning (sic) tatum”
You just killed your point by touting Channing Tatum as a “real actor.” Your average Bloomingdale’s mannequin has more talent and charisma than Tatum.
amen…
Ha, you guys fell for the agency plant…
Your logic is faulty (and not just because you peg Philippe or Tatum as “real actors”). Who knew before Iron Man that Downey could carry a movie like that? He was Mr. Indie Quirky Character Actor Guy (despite the Oscar nom and all his personal troubles). But Marvel took the chance and scored BIG.
It’s all about taking a leap of faith sometimes — and Evans has shown he’s got more in the tank than he’s been able to fully explore in his previous roles (but hinted at). The FF movies were a sad joke – but he was the bright spot, bringing real charm and timing to the role. I can see him growing from the eager, affable Steve Rogers to the tougher, conflicted and edgier Steve Rogers Captain America but with his heart and ideals intact.
If Evans gets this role, he will own it (my humble prediction). He should take it and it will do for him what Capt. Kirk did for Chris Pine. Trust and bank on it, fanboys and Hollywood sycophants. Marvel will rock this.
wow. chris evans. johnny storm. it’s like casting ben affleck in daredevil. and we all know what happened there. captain america is not a comedy.
casting ryan phillippe might seem like going to the graveyard of actors but it so worked out amazingly well with robert downey, jr. he was great in crash and solid in breach, even though that film didn’t really click.
Channing Tatum? Serious Actor?
Maybe not the best choice, but considering who else they were looking at it’s the best. He’s the only decent thing about the Fantastic Four movies, although that’s an awfully low bar to clear.
I like Chris Evans, but the choice is kind of “been there, done that.” Choosing an unknown would have been more exciting.
argh, he is much too clean cut for captain america. he should be an older actor. Please hire Viggo Mortenson for this
Hate to say this, but he’s too old. Steve Rogers aka Capt. America is pretty young. Also, it just isn’t right to have the same actor skip from one Marvel superhero to the other. It would be similar to having Ryan Reynolds who is playing Green Lantern jump on board as The Flash as well.
Jesus Christ, just tell us when someone is cast. The behind-the-scenes back and forth is getting old and uninteresting!
Yet, you are still here. Still reading.
out of the other rumors earlier today saying evans/tatum/stan was the top finalists. i rather take evans. he has the look, is young, has the persona and charm for the role. Plus he would probably fit well with dowey/hemsworth/jackson and others for avengers. Hopefully the casting will be confirmed soon. i will be very happy if he is officially confirmed.
Boring, terrible casting. Captain America will look like Iron Man’s 20 year old little sidekick instead of an equal opposite.
These guys at Marvel are determined to screw this up. Seriously, I would rather see Daniel Craig – a frakin’ BRIT – play Captain America than ANY of the choices they’ve made so far, save for Garrett Hedlund. Chris Evans is nothing, nothing, nothing like this character. Here’s five better choices off the top…
Chris Pine, Ryan Goslin, Matt Damon, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner
All those u mentioned are bad choices except for Chris Pine.
This makes total sense for Marvel. Fans love him and he’s more of a name than the others (sorry Mike, but your time will come). Would have been great to see them go after Aaron Eckhart or Matt Damon, but in reality Chris is the best option.
Eckhart, yes I can see him as Captain America. He is laid back like I’ve imagined Captain American being at times and yet has charisma.
They should have tested Ryan McPartlin “Captain Awesome” from Chuck.
He would make a great Cap.
I read that he did test for it but he didn’t make the cut.
One of you thinks the 28 year old Chris Evans is too old, and another thinks the FIFTY ONE year old Viggo Mortensen should play him. Stuckey, you’re $#%$ing crazy.
As the one who thinks Evans is too old, I agree with you on your point.
Marvel is damned if they do, damned if they don’t. Guess that just goes to show how important Capt. America is to the Marvel universe.
Either way, hope it’s a good film.
As much as I’d like them to go with an older actor on this, they’re probably better off going a bit younger like an Evans, Gosling, or Pine (my 3 choices).
I mean after NINE possible movies playing Captain America, whoever gets this part will probably be reaching for the Geritol afterwards.
He’s a good looking guy, but what a boring choice! Downey’s going to rip his head off and piss down his neck, acting-wise.
Dear Evans,
Please reject this. I don’t need you in my Marvel Movieverse.
No Love,
Me
this is career suicide for evans if he chooses it. i think he’s doing great with his current choices. he was a great action lead in Push and he showed some depth in Sunshine. playing another superhero is going to typecast him further than playing johnny storm for the rest of his life. i think ryan phillipe should also stick to the smaller studio films and hopefully get a shot at a big, non superhero one, in the future.
No, really, what happened to Ryan McPartlin? Why did he drop off the radar? He did a screen test. He would be perfect for the role!
You know, Viggo would KILL in this no matter his age. But he would never take the part, anyway.
These superhero movies are a real yawn. Die please. And soon.
+1 on this. They’re all the same and they always suck. Even Iron Man, which was OMG TEH BEST!!!1!1! of them, by any critical measure, sucked. In the end it makes not a lick of difference who they cast for this role, because people don’t care about the actual movie – they want to see either a) their favorite character on the screen, or b) a bunch of special effects. Or both. The only question is how much it will suck. It’s going to make a ton of money regardless, so who cares?
Funny that you mention Iron Man, because I think most people would say that Robert Downey Jr. had a LOT to do with that movie’s success. Was it going to be a hit anyway? Sure, probably. But it was essentially his Jack Sparrow role. Actors matter more than fans are often willing to admit.
This post is BS. Deadline Hollywood, you need to state your source, or else this is just another BS rumor attempt to try and be first to announce it. Unless Marvel has confirmed It, its BS! No way they give this to banana split boy from not another teen movie.
Just please no Channing Zoolander. I can live with this choice.
Well, at least they didnt go with John Krasinski!
My picks for Cap Amer in order: Matt damon, Ryan Gosling, Charlie Hunnam, Ryan Phillipe, Chris Pine, then Channing Tatum (even though his acting skills are terrible.
lol yea 300k is going to get anyone on that list. Keep dreamin. Charlie Hunnam, even though he is a brit, would be PERFECT though. Alas, he’s repped by birdbrain flack Michael Cooper
I don’t think Hunnam was ever a possibility anyway. He’s already the lead on his own series (SONS OF ANARCHY), and even if they could work his schedule around to film this movie, there’s no way to guarantee that for any of the nine additional options he might have to commit to.
i think that they should go with a younger guy, maybe an unknown guy, cause i think evans or tatum will ruin this movie majorally. Tatum is a shit actor, and evans already played a suerhero so no go. The guy who is in tron legacy won’t do it cause tron is gonna make his career explode in december. go with an unknown a guy who will throw himself into this character!
what about gabourey sidibe for Cap Amer? That movie would get my $10
Best DHD post ever
That was good, and she would do it well.
@ Jason,
Use your head please. Have you ever read any film related article that stated its source when it comes to scoops? No.
Just like how Nolan was confirmed by sources and was confirmed by Nolan himself. WB never ever mentioned it directly.
actually hollywood reporter’s heat vision blog was the first to report that evans been given offer for the role. So right now its more likely he will take the role. As for evans doing cap after doing two fox marvel FF movies. i dont really see the issue there. there is tons of actors out there who have done other comic book movies or movies of historical/fictional characters too. So this is no different. out of the names of tatum/sebastian stan earlier today on iesb. Evans is the best of the bunch. Plus between doing cap/avengers and cameos in other marvel films. He could easily go off and do some indie film, or some other film. Its all about scheduling.
I don’t see why people are complaining either. Halle was Storm and Catwoman. Reynolds was Deadpool and now will be Green Lantern. There shouldn’t be a problem here.
Storm is Marvel, Catwoman is DC
Deadpool is Marvel, Lantern is DC
Johnny Storm is Marvel, Capt. America is Marvel
Thanks for clearing that up. It makes no sense to see the same actor portray 2 different characters in the same universe….granted they’re done by different production companies. It’d be like Christian Bale taking on the role of The Question after his stint as Batman.
Ugh, Human Torch in FANTASTIC 4 is not quite the same as playing Captain America as far as scale. God life is so tough….
Very poor choice. There’s a proven formula for what works – you have to be innovative in your casting – have to show an intelligent independent streak. Not take the easy simpleton path – casting the square-jawed blank hero. That’s why Krasinski was an interesting choice… they were on the right track but they chickened out and backed down.
Echoing other statements re: Ryan McPartlin. Why hasn’t he gained more traction for this role?? He screen tested, and the guy would be PERFECT for Captain America. Wise up and make it happen, Marvel!
And here we are, all playing into the studio hype machine. Truth is, Marvel and the studio is terrified about this film because it has the word “America” in it and portrays an American hero. How’s that gotta open overseas, team? Probably not too great. So they need to shift this from being a film about America (which it kinda has to be) and move the story to which hot young actor will play the role. And so we all take the bait and play our role of casting director. The names fly and it’s all great fun, signifying nothing. But it does buy Marvel time to figure out if this film is really gonna work and if they can make an Avengers film in 2010 (me thinks not).
So either move along or help the PR shills out, folks. Just remember which role you’re playing.
Teddy Sears, Teddy Sears, Teddy Sears.
He can play a wider age range, something to consider for the franchise over time. A very good actor (see A Single Man) and yet still has the physicality at 6′3″, the jawline and the twinkle in the eye. Really is anyone going to see this movie for Chris Evans?
He’s great. He will KILL this.
Chris Evans is a great actor with a fantastic personality, i’m just afraid that Captain America is just dull — of course i’m just basing this on their lame attempt at the first captain america movie. If the price is not right, why take it — he’s not a no name actor and deserves to be paid higher. If this was superman, I would have a different opinion but what does Captain America do exactly? Has a shield and that’s it? I’d much rather see him as a johnny storm spinoff — which seems far more interesting and the best part of that horrible fantastic four movies.
This will ruin Captain America. Surely there is someone else out there.
I find it curious that this is two weekends in a row without a weekend box office posting (unless I’ve missed it). Last weekend The Green Zone opened to a crashing thud but it wasn’t covered here at all. When a $130M movie opens to $14.5M it’s a big story, especially with the star power behind it. Now this weekend will presumably see it crash and burn, leaving hopes of profitability a bitter memory.
Does Nikki have a profit share in the movie or something? I’m just surprised it wasn’t deemed worthy to note here.
Are you kidding me? I have never heard of this guy until now and he wants to turn down a role that will make him a household name. Is he crazy or just stupid?
You need to drive that limo out of Miami if you’ve never heard of Chris Evans.
In the film PUSH, Evans showed that he was capable of more than just playing a smart-ass (ala Johnny Storm) which is all that Ryan Reynolds showed until ADVENTURELAND; now he’s portraying GREEN LANTERN.
I hope Chris Evans takes the role.
If this film were made 10 years ago Paul Walker would have been perfect.
Has anyone heard if they’ve looked into Neal McDonough at all? I’ve always thought with a little polishing he could fit the part. Seriously, imdb the guy, and picture him in the Cap’s uniform… I could see it.
It’s breaking the superhero movie code (such as the Punisher’s Ray Stevenson being in the THOR Movie). It’s ok for him to be a DC Superhero like THE FLASH, but he can’t be another Marvel Superhero. Might as well make Tobey Maguire ANT-MAN or THE VISION.
How about Paul Walker or Josh Halloway??? MUCH BETTER Choices.
There’s a super-hero movie code.
I think Chris Evans is the reigning champ of code violations.
Good for him.
What an incredibly boring, uninspired choice. I also love the article which essentially tells us Evans is “above all this” and is “weighing his options.” And doesn’t want to be “typecast”.
Reality check: does ANYBODY even remember who played the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four movies? Much less CARE??
I’m guessing most people, and casual fans, are gonna go “huh? so what” when they hear about Chris Evans.
Big deal…
Everything I’ve read has indicated “Mr. Mad Men” John Hamm would hamm it up a relatively perfect Captain America. But, I’ve also heard that the studios think he’s too old, as they tend to do with anyone over the age of 21.
Apparently in the world of movies, people never get old.
This is all for moot, a Captain American solo movie will ultimately fail. A movie has to first be able to play overseas and then in America. A Captain America movie would have been great anytime from 1978 to 1984; it missed its window.
I wish Marvel would do some movies on some of it’s more interesting characters like “Deathlok.”
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/4303/deathlok3mz9.jpg
Movies don’t necessarily have to do well overseas. First of all, piracy overseas, plus dropping DVD sales, and exhibitor collapses, make that market less important than it was. Fox closed its Korean and Spanish language DVD divisions. What does that tell you?
Second, the money gained in the US potentially can offset any theoretical money left on the table in Western Europe and Japan and Australia/Canada (the only places with sizeable populations, not hit by piracy, with exhibitors and DVD markets still intact).
There are plenty of comedies based on US humor that do well and don’t do well overseas. Four Christmases comes to mind. Besides, with a collapsed economy world-wide, and China’s bubble about to burst, along with Brazil’s, it seems insane to bet on foreign revenue when Russian or Chinese pirates can offer a copy of the film on DVD or Blu Ray for less than a ticket price.
Marvel didn’t want Downey either, and look at him. He MADE Iron Man. Older actors could be cast if producers fight for them.
Ryan McPartlin (Chuck) is really awesome. He’s funny, as well as built like a truck. He’s got a great voice. Superheroes are hard to do. Guys like Cage failed with Ghostrider, and Matt Damon would be a joke.
Damien Lewis is a brit, but if you saw him in “Life” or Band of Brothers, the man can act. Project masculine leadership, intelligence, and compassion. He can also be quietly funny. If you put a gun to my head and I could not get McPartlin, I’d choose Lewis.
Let me add, Deathlok, Terror, most of Marvel’s stuff added after the Silver Age is probably a non-starter because of who created the characters, and who the characters were created for (i.e. the readers).
Marvel’s Silver Age characters all work, because Stan Lee and others had to try hard to appeal to pre-teen boys wanting weird tales of heroism. Which is all Comic book characters really are. They work on an emotional level of wonder, fear, and instant emotional identification. They are more about the character than the power and situation. Lee, and others, were still able to figure out what they were like as 11 year old boys, and give their young readers what they wanted, as corny and often stupid as that could be.
The later characters, Deathlok included, lacked emotional identification or any sense of wonder. They were created by “hip” creators who wanted “cool stuff” to impress their older, late teens readers. Deathlok, Terror, Night Thrasher, Nova, etc. are powers in search of a character with emotional meaning.
It’s like Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis versus say, Ornette Coleman and Free Jazz. The first two are music, with timeless appeal, and the last is just noise. Despite Coleman being supremely talented, gifted even.
Bet if President Obama played Cap, the movie would make billions…
in Germany!
Chris is a great actor. He just hasn’t had the right part or script to shine in. He should do a sexy role and show off his amazing body. Don’t think Capn’ Amer. is right but I would certainly give him the chance to fill out that uniform
. 8=======> What about John Hamm – he would be perfect. They need to take a risk, and stop drawing from the same pile of cards.
I don’t think Chris Evans playing the role of Captain America will kill this movie. I think Joe Johnston playing the role of director will kill this movie.
I bet the director and studio taking your advice would kill this movie.
Take it? Don’t take? Who cares! Capt. America? Are we really taking ourselves that seriously? Everybody in this town knows that there is only one Capt. America: Barack Obama.
Hell, we all voted for him! Why don’t we cast him?
…and HYDRA can be played by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad!
Whatever. Let’s come up with something a little more original people…
I mean, “J.Lo” doing Goldie Hawn’s Overboard?…Can we please earn our living?
I think Hydra should be played by all politicians resisting health care reform.
Better rename it “Captain Soviet Union,” then.
Sam Worthington.
Jeremy Renner. Period.
Renner is playing Hawkeye in the Avengers movie.
I CAN DIRECT!!! Haven’t you seen my Rocketeer under my October Sky next to my Shrunken Kids?
That’s enough to make us all howl at the moon!
I would cast Josh Brolin. Perfect age to play against Downey in the Avengers movie. And he’s a real actor.
I keep reading posts regarding age.
If Cap is frozen some time during WWII, he would appear younger than Stark and the other Avengers and the super-soldier serum would retard his aging (hope that word didn’t offend Sarah Palin supporters).
This Marvel Movie Universe is partly inspired my the Ultimate Universe so having Cap awaken in the 21st Century would justify the vast age difference. This, plus an extended contract portraying Cap in various flicks would require someone under 30.
The man who was born to play Captain America is named Mark Valley. You may know him as the lead actor in “Keen Eddie” and “Human Target”. Mr. Valley is a West Point graduate, former U.S. Army Officer and decorated Gulf War veteran. He is a relative unknown and could hold his own with Robert Downey Jr. as he projects command presence and adult gravitas.Marvel does not seem to realize if the first movie is a flop, the sequels will never take place. At this point all buzz for the “Avengers” movie is dead. The casting of Chris Hemsworth as Thor and now this Captain America fiasco has successfully turned off everyone but the most dedicated fanboys. The casting of Don Cheadle as War Machine turned out to be a foreshadowing of how Marvel intends to do these movies. i.e. “as cheaply as possible.” Michael Jai White should have been War Machine,Mark Valley should have been Cap and Alexander Skarsgard should have been Thor.Imagine that trio with Robert Downey Jr. as Ironman.Your mind is reeling isn’t it? The scale of the movie is epic if the actors have stature. This Cap movie is going to suck and the Thor movie is going to stink to high heaven.
Don Cheadle is an excellent actor and is much better known than Michael Jai White. Still, either one would be a vast improvement over Terrence.
Boring choice. I was hoping they would go for someone else. Evans isnt a great actor and I dont think he has the right look for the role.
I agree, I don’t know if Renner tested but wow, I can really see him being great in this role, especially as his star is rising this seems like the next logical step. I’m not as scared about Evans as most are, though I am concerned he can portray Cap as Cap should be…serious as cancer. Though I suppose most of that is in the script isn’t it. Actors get a lot of credit, but a good script is a good script and a bad one is a bad one.
Hollywood will never go out on a limb so why does everyone get so worked up? They’d have Ryan Reynolds play every single comic book movie ever made if they could, so why would casting Chris Evans again in a comic book movie shock you? Originality and finding true talent in this town are DEAD. If you didn’t make a name for yourself as a actor before 2006 or aren’t Austrailain, it doesn’t matter. When they put the mo is in 3D everyone will still go see it anyway and everyone will call it a triumph. In 2 months no one will care about this and the opening weekend boxoffice will still be the same.
“Renner is playing Hawkeye in the Avengers movie.” – Ron Lim
Are you THE Ron Lim who drew Silver Surfer?
Marvel will rock this.
feige was an imposter, his balls are cut off by disney. evans is the worst choice ever. the dude cant act. they may as well get stiffler. marvel was a sham. avi will be missed.
I think they should go with an unknown or John Cena.
I think they have the wrong person as noted on Flicker.
Neal McDonough, he looks the part, buffed etc.
Since I prefer wonder woman I’m more curious.
Nadia Bjorlin,
She has that Linda Carter, Raquel Welch thing going on.
Evans is such a dull choice. Maybe Krasinski wasnt such a bad idea after all. Totally uninspired casting and he doesnt even sound that keen. Sounds as if he wants more money. Hopefully it isnt too late for the role to be offered elsewhere. Even a virtual unknown like Mike Vogel would have been far better.
Josh Hartnett is a schmuck
Despite the F4 movies, Evans is actually a VERY good actor. And considering that Marvel is looking for a younger actor than most would think of for Captain America, I honestly think he may be one of the best known options out there. He’s one of the few in his age range with enough presence and charisma to NOT be blown off the screen every time Robert Downey Jr. appears (Chris Pine would’ve been another one, but he’s busy). And this character is SO different from the Human Torch that we shouldn’t have to worry about a “been there, done that” kind of performance from him. I say good choice, Marvel.
HA! i just came from another website where they said he was TOO YOUNG!
It seems there are objections all across the age spectrum !
If he accepts and he can work out his scheduling conflicts ,
he will be a fine choice .
Fuck it, just cast Verne Troyer as Cap’n America and be done with this shit. Marvel has fucked up nearly every great superhero they have with casting fuckery (save for Wolverine – the character and Iron Man). Those choices were made ostensibly by the directors Singer and Favreau, so why the fuck don’t they let the director cast who he wants? It’s sad that only comic book movies get the attention and are the only seemingly viable movies to create a star and that the studios won’t take risks with great creative directors like Nolan, Singer, Favreau. The fucking agents glom on to this shit like it’s the most important thing in the world, because they know they won’t make commission otherwise. Agents could care less if the script is good or not. They want the payday. The fact that this Chris Evans post is even on here is ridic. The always take the cheap way out and the result is pure shit. Note to Chris Evans: Just say no. You don’t want another Fantastic Four, which is what this movie will be -mindless shit – maybe worse. Sorry but Joe J. has not done anything for me to hope otherwise.
For those worried about a Hollywood/Marvel/Disney movie featuring the presence of “America” in the title and/or feature, you should know that the script for “The First Avenger: Captain America” (as it’s currently titled) will actually take place largely in Europe during WWII — this is just one of the ways of negotiating an Ameri-centric story in the current political/global cimate. While the central tenants of Steve Rogers/Captain America himself might idealize classical “American” values, in fact, much of the interest in this script/film will come from Rogers dealing with mixed treatment from his own government (he is the only one of his kind — a genetically-enhanced “super soldier”), being sent into “foreign territory” (literally and figuratively), learning how to work with foreign colleagues of similar (dis)positions (Marvel’s classic WWII-era team, and Avengers pre-cursor “The Invaders”), and finally, bookended in the film, and continued in The Avengers film, Rogers waking up in our contemporary time period and dealing with a very literal feeling of being “out of time, out of place.” If Joe Johnston and the lead actor can convey all of the above scenarios and ideas effectively, I believe the film will have relevance not just in the U.S., but worldwide.
I would have loved to have seen Damon do this character as well, but Pine would indeed be a better choice than any of the other B and C-listers we’ve been hearing about recently…
They should get an african american to play Captain America!!! It would be the right thing to do (Change).
Look up Mike Vogel. He’s tested for the role. Has a supporting role in the just released “She’s outta my league” and is the right age and build. He’s got a new Bruckheimer series, which could be the reason for him not being offered the part. He’d be the right level of “sorta unknown”, but a good actor who would fit the part.
Evans is the Bee Knees they should do whatever they can to get him.
If you really want to shake it up Cast Neo ( Keanu Reeves)
Star Power, blonde hair, set audience, super serum, motivated.
Unsure, powerful superman bad ass, Neo.
Will Smith could pull this off. Would they really have to change THAT MUCH to make it work with him as Cap?
Stan Lee himself said he’d love to see Will Smith play Cap. He’s definitely worth $25mill. Only actor alive worth more than 10 right now if you ask me.
I don’t know most of these names being tossed about. What I do know is, I don’t think someone younger than 28 should be playing this role. There are too many good “older” actors. Call me crazy, but at least in the comics IM and the Cap look to be contemporaries, not big brother/little brother, Batman and Robin. With the history of those two characters, the priority should be finding someone that can play off RDJ. Now, if that ends up being a baby-faced 24 year old, I’ll overlook it and appreciate the chemistry. Ideally, find someone that compliments RDJ.
So many opinions, so many voices. Most of them coming from AintitCool trolls. Evans, Pillippe, and Tatum are all great choices. Fuck the haters.
Funny thing is everyone believes that all these actors who have auditioned to play “in” the Captain America movie are trying out to play Cap himself… Truth is, they have already cast Captain America!!! The part has gone to either Ryan McPartlin or Jenson Ackles about a month ago. They aren’t going to announce casting before April 30th. Why April 30th, because that’s the day Iron Man premiers in England. Is it a coincidence the iron man and cap america direstors are all out in England??? That’s because they’ve already been filming the cameo of cap in the upcoming iron man movie. Do you really think we wouldn’t have heard who has actually been cast with filming set to begin in 2 months??? Hell no!!! This has been one of the best kept secrets in hollywood! They had to cast him before March 1 in order to film a cameo they want in iron man 2. All of the leaked autitions are true to a sense, they say “Chris Evans” or “Ryan Phillipe” or that scandanavian guy have all auditioned for Captain America. Well that statement is true, but it doesn’t mean they weren’t auditioning for other parts! Johnson has already said that he would surround an “unknown” with bigger named actors. They have to cast cast the invaders and Bucky and his love interest. And your going to say they haven’t already done this with 2 months before filming begins??? Think about it people. What does chris evans, ryan phillipe, and that scandanavian dude have in common??? They all don’t come anywhere close to fitting the part of Captain America, but they do fit someone like Bucky…
Chris Evans for Cap will go down as one of the worst casting choices in Hollywood history.Watch”Sunshine”,”Street Kings”,”Celluar”,”Push” and both FF movies and let me know if anything you see makes you think “This guy should play Captain America!!!” Their missed deadline of March 1st tells you they realized they muffed it.It’s time to back off the nine movie committment for $300,000.I have always been a huge Mark Valley booster, but at this point Paul Walker is looking better everyday.
My enthusiasm for this movie has sank to nil.I plan to enjoy “Ironman 2″ and then look forward to the third Batman movie.CA is going to suck.Chris Evans,Bad Director and Low Budget equals a garbage movie.
Evans is the best choice of the actors they’ve been looking at. Friggin hurry up, Marvel, or you will have to push back production!
I honestly don’t think Chris Evans is the best guy for the role.
They should just go for Eric Dane. Sure, he’s older, but I think he fits the role perfectly (and could be made to look substantially younger). True, he’s a rom-com guy, but I’ll go back to Mitchum’s comment on Saturday… it’s all about a leap of faith, and I think Dane looks the part better than just about anyone…
I definitely like the idea of Ryan McPartlin, too… just not as much as Dane.
I have a hard time swallowing the idea that Marvel would trust their multi million dollar franchise (maybe more w/ merchandising) to Ryan McPartlin or Jenson Ackles. Two TV actors that do not have one respectable film credit between them. Let us not forget about the terrific BOMB that was Superman Returns, who also decided to cast a relative unknown as the lead.
An African American is the best choice for the role. We have an African American President. African americans dominate all sports. All the top athletes are African American. African Americans dominate the music charts. To have an African American as Captain America is a true reflection of the current state of America. Go to any high school through out America and you will find that 75% of the “cool” kids emulate African Americans in speech and mannerisms. Tyrese Gibson would be an excellent choice. Unless of course this is a period piece then go with Chris Evans.
I think casting Evans was a great choice! He was great in the FF movies and I’m sure that he can bulk up for this role. I am surprised that they didn’t choose Mat Damon, though. I think he could do a great job in the role as well, but Evans is still an awesome choice. I can’t wait to see this movie!!!!!!!!!
hi chris evans can u be my friend im a gay…
Dennis Quaid or Dermot Mulroney will be great choices. Captain America should be older and rougher on the edges, he was a military man and not a boy.
