EXCLUSIVE: Jude Law just signed with manager Rick Yorn. He remains repped by WME. The move comes after just after Law’s latest film, Repo Men, did not perform at the box office. Law will reprise the role of Watson alongside Robert Downey Jr. in the Guy Ritchie-directed sequel to Sherlock Holmes, and he is also set to star with Kate Winslet, Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow in the Steven Soderbergh-directed film Contagion. Warner Bros is making both of those films.
Yorn’s new partner, Ian Montone, had been friends with Law and was helpful in the signing. Their company, loosely called Montone/Yorn, has been operating under the radar since Yorn left The Firm. They’re building a pretty good client list. In music, that includes White Stripes, Vampire Weekend, The Shins, Danger Mouse, Broken Bells, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, Cold War Kids, Pete Yorn separately and in his collaboration with Scarlett Johansson. The movie roster is Leo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz, Marty Scorsese, Benicio Del Toro, Justin Timberland, Johansson and Law.

No offense to Jude Law, but he is not and never has been a star. Capable supporting actor, yes. Leading man, maybe in an under $30M film. Star, no.
Can’t recall a film I’ve seen him in that I thought, “wow what an amazing performance!” And prob too effeminate for US audiences anyway.
Who cares he’s frikken’ gorgeous!
agreed. I never get tired of looking at him, although I do think he can act too. He just needs to pick something more marketable next time.
What’s with this fixation on everybody having to be a huge star ? Day Lewis, Benecio, Sean Penn and Phillip Seymour Hoffman are the best actos working today and none of them come in huge movies that are big hits so I guess they are not “stars” either. Why do these internet malcontents care so much about being famous and popular and don’t care at all about things that actually matter, like respect from your peers(Law is a 2 time Oscar nominee) and being a good actor.
I believe it’s the actor that picks their own material – the manager just guides them. Repo was in Jude Law’s Wheel house – he just don’t have a fan base – no foreign or domestic value.
Yeah, like he’s going to secure new rep the Monday after a bad opening weekend, and the change hasn’t been in the works for a while. Right. Come on. Jude has a great fan base, some just can’t take gory action. Repo Men was good, I thought.
I agree. I loved Repo Man and so did my husband who works in that kind of action film genre. I think word of mouth might help this film build. We also loved Sherlock Holmes and thought Jude was great in it.
Well, if Rick Yorn cant help him. No one can.
Great actor! I wish him well. Rick is a terrific manager and WME has done well for him. Repo didn’t perform and so what! Show me an actor that doesn’t miss once in awhile, that is the norm. He’ll win on the next one.
good thing he left josh lieberman because here was a joke about how much he works!
has there ever been a european actor who was effeminate that was commercially successful in the US
Peter O’Toole !!!
The only thing I’ve ever seen him really *act* in was GATTACA and that was a looong time ago…
Very difficult for any actor to pick good material. Some (and also a handful of reps) just seem to have a preternatural ability to discern the winners from the turkeys, at least for a span of time. On the page it’s often hard to tell a Repo from a Matrix, a Cutthroat Island from a Pirates of the Caribbean. That’s why certain actors like Leo and DD Lewis choose only to work with certain (maybe 2-3) directors – it’s the safest way to preserve the longevity of their careers. Of course this also prevents them from taking many risks which is ironic as it was their early risky projects that captured the world’s attention in the first place. But I guess once you’re on top you just want to stay there. Can’t say I blame them. View must be nice.
He’d have a bigger female fan base if he didn’t come across as a complerte sleezebag. He also has the charisma of a potted plant.
Matt Damon’s last 2 films have done shit business. Another example of how an actor just never knows. I like the risk takers, though. They do interesting stuff, and Jude has done interesting stuff in addition to some successful stage work.
He’s not a complete sleezebag. That title goes to Tiger Woods and Jesse James, men who are actually married and who seem to have an affinity for hookers, and Gerard Butler, who looks sweaty and smelly all the time. Jude’s female fanbase is very much alive and kicking. Hugh Grant does okay, too.
jude is a fabulous actor and has an enormous fan base all over the world……let’s hope this agent will place him in films that will show his acting abilities to their fullest…he’ll always be a star because the cxamera adores jude…
Jude Law packed the theatre on Broadway in Hamlet – the grosses were huge for every sold out performance. Obviously there is a fan base out there…
To answer the question about European actor who is effeminate who has been successful in the US — uh, hello, Hugh Grant?
Wow, great point…if this were 1999. Look at Hugh’s last three movies: DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE MORGANS, MUSIC & LYRICS, AMERICAN DREAMZ. Clearly, American audiences are as enthralled with him as they are with Jude Law.
Hey Jude,
Enough with the I just woke up look.
Thank you.
I think Law manned up quite well in Sherlock — perfect foil.
Nobody ever thought RDJr would be a star in a huge comicbook franchise.
