Renee Zellweger has returned to CAA after leaving for a 9-month stint at WME. I haven’t seen much of the Oscar-winner lately. When Sunday’s Academy Awards used past co-workers to give intimate introductions of Best Actor and Best Actress nominees, I wondered why Julianne Moore introduced Colin Firth (she noted she barely knew her A Single Man co-star) and not Zellweger, who made 2 installments of Bridges Jones’s Diary with Firth, with a 3rd in the works.

The Moore-Firth pairing wasn’t the odd one for that category — why trott out Colin Farrell just because he is a name to speak to his experience working with Jeremy Renner on SWAT???
I would say that perhaps Anthony Mackie wasn’t available but clearly he was seen sitting in the audience and then up on stage when “The Hurt Locker” won best picture.
It was awkward to see and that awkwardness was read all over Farrell’s face. Renner deserved better.
Well Ms. Z, the next time you come to Michigan for some BBQ pig.
Let me hook you up. In the Misfits Marilyn looked wonderful and the great thing about being over 40 as the actress said in Up in the Air, you can do a lot of things and do it well.
So you should hook back up with Nicole Kidman in a drama and bring in all the girls. Something like The Big Chill, funky music, dancing,
laughing and sex.
You were great in Appaloosa and speaking of Westerns you would be great in another one, more modern Like All the Pretty Horses.
Good luck.
This is really big news! She is so talented. Maybe CAA can package her with all their other over 40 out of work actresses in a reality show about being talented and out of work in Hollywood. The represent them all, it should be easy. If that manager had any brains that repped her he would have put her with Toni Howard at ICM. She has the time to focus on a great actress like Rene and is still one of the best Agents in the business. Old School, smart and great taste. Oh well WME can get back to the business of making money. Something they do very well.
Huh? WME is bleeding money and losing about one major client a week.
Forget about the clients that have left, they should look in the mirror and face reality. I look at the amazing job that WME is doing for the clients they represent. They are smart, passionate and really great agents. I know first hand. I work with both Agencies. The merger has worked brilliantly for WME. It is never great news when a client leaves but usually the ones that leave are not working or just malcontent. Renee is a great actress, perhaps she should star in a TV series. Who better than to accomplish that than CAA or WME because that is what CAA is thinking. Fast forward one year and CBS will be presenting the Renee Show. I do not mean any disrespect but the pie is a bit smaller and there is not enough for everyone to eat. There are so many talented people in this Industry that are not working. Just blame the Agents, that’s easy. They can only sell what can be sold to an industry that is shrinking in a big way and continues to shrink everyday. Oh and WME has more wealth than every other Agency combined!
Oh man you’re fricking nuts! Way to drink the kool aid. Hilarious.
I don’t think Rene is a great actress. YES, she won an Oscar for THE MISSING where I thought she just copied playing GRANNY from THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES. I do, however, think J.C., Rene’s manager is fantastic at his job and very smart. But, there is only so much one can do as a manager. At Rene’s level, I think you leave one agency to go to another for no real “they failed me” reason. I mean she will be know forever as… OSCAR WINNER RENE ZELLWEGGER. That’s plenty of ammo for any agent to use to try and get her work.
Um, the movie she won an Oscar for was COLD MOUNTAIN not THE MISSING. What are you missing?
WME agents work for themselves, not the clients. That’s why they lose so many. Let them spin it any way they want – the fact remains that the agency is not clicking.
Yea, the move didn’t really work out as planned. Let’s go back to the agency that got you some well-paying gigs.
What difference does it make which top agency an actress attaches herself to. Each so called “great agent” is chasing the same product on the shelf. And when you look at he shelf it is empty.
All you see are 3D animated dragon movies, guys(creatures) with swords…and violence. Where are the stories to make into movies.
You have a prequel to Planet of the Apes…MIB3 Hangover 2, it is pathetic. Give me a story about a corrput southern female governor,
or a Ohio Female Senator fighting the good fight for her constiuents, but losing the battle with her family. And in the end the pretty ending doesn’t emerge…true life
“Give me a story about a corrput southern female governor,
or a Ohio Female Senator fighting the good fight for her constiuents, but losing the battle with her family”
Smells like a bunch of flops to me…I assumed studio heads are in the business of making money, and crappy lifetime channel movies like the one’s you describe will not fill their coffers: The Blindside be damned.
Wow, your female-drive political family dramas sound like some discarded scripts a writer’s assistant might’ve burned in a trash can in the Brothers & Sisters room. If that’s what passes for entertainment, pass me my ape mask. I’ll do stand-in work for Mark Wahlberg. Keep fishin’.
Rupert Everett has known and worked with Colin Firth for 25 years and has been talking trash about him in the press (jokingly or not) for at least that long. Since he thinks the role in A Single Man should have rightfully gone to him his introduction might had added some much needed drama and bitchiness to an otherwise dull night.
That’s why I admire Angelina Jolie. She’s in the process of building a possible franchise with the upcoming SALT and Scarpetta movies. Just like Matt Damon and Tom Cruise did with the Borne franchises. Folks will come out to see you once the franchise is good as the MI and Borne films proved. Angelina has cornered the market right now, because outside of her, no female can handle a weapon more believably than her…..Megsn Fox types need not apply….
Or SIGOURNEY WEAVER in Alien(s)
“My One And Only” was a really solid film. I’d say, Renee’s best performance in the last five years. Rent it.
Julianne was there b/c of Single Man. Renee would not have made an appearance like that she’s too big of a star. Look at all the people that could have intro’d Meryl Streep, conversely Anthony Mackie isn’t well known enough to have made one of those intros. I was surprised that they brought back Michelle for Jeff Bridges – there had to be someone more current who could have done it.
Renee is too big of a star? HUH?
I think not.
I disagree, I enjoyed seeing Michelle Pfeiffer. She’s not one of those who’s constantly out there. Plus, Michelle did work with Adam Shankman on Hairspray too, so maybe that’s why she was asked to do it.
Stanley Tucci introduced Streep because they’re close friends and he was her husband in “Julie and Julia”. He was the perfect choice.
I’m glad Renee didn’t introduce Colin. It’s time to put the Darcies behind him. Bette Midler would have been perfect. She compared their acting styles in a very amusing way on the DVD of the film they did together, Then She Found Me, which unfortunately got lost in poor distribution. They both have great senses of humor & I’m sure she’d have funny anecdotes.
I think the Agency has clicked very nicely for the clients that I have with them. All of whom work constantly and could not be happier. They have all gone from small careers to very successful big careers. I guess it is all very subjective but my experience has been incredible. The original WMA agents and the new WME agents combined are very supportive and my clients are not leaving for the promise of being packaged into those non existent films that never materialize. CAA is great for some but two of my clients are doing much better now that they have left and gone to ICM. They are also a very hard working group of Agents. I always explain to the clients that they need to be responsible for their careers and we figure out how to make things work. I am tired of this Post. Have a good one!
Renee is a wonderful actress and hopefully will do well back at CAA.
I agree that she would have been great introducing Colin. They have a great relationship and keep in touch regularly. After two movies together, she would have a lot of things to share about Colin. They are good friends also. Julianne was definitely the wrong choice.
Colin and Julianne had just done “A SIngle Man”. There was award buzz surrounding them and it, and rightly so, great performances by both. A very interesting movie that more people should see. She is phenomenal and the perfect choice for many reasons.
I think Renee Z should get the lead role in NBC’s new remake of the brilliant Prime Suspect series. She would be great in the role. And it would be a good career move for her.
