BBC Worldwide Prods is beefing up its scripted team, hiring 15-year AMC veteran Vlad Wolynetz as SVP scripted production and WME TV lit agent Hugh Fitzpatrick as VP scripted programming. Wolynetz, who will start next month ,and Fitzpatrick, who started earlier this month, will join the scripted department headed by SVP Julie Gardner.
Vlad Wolynetz joins from AMC where he served as VP of production, series and movies, working on Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Rubicon, Walking Dead and AMC’s first original movie, Broken Trail. At WME, Fitzpatrick repped writers and directors on 30 Rock, The Office, The Mentalist, Fringe and Big Love.
BBC Worldwide Prods. head Jane Tranter, who was controller for BBC Fiction and controller for drama commissioning before coming to the U.S., has put an emphasis on scripted programming since taking over BBC Worldwide Prods. in January 2009. BBC Worldwide Prods. is going through a transition period, having recently switched agencies, moving from ICM to CAA. The company also has been looking to deficit its scripted shows instead of going through the Hollywood studio system.

Hugh Fitzpatrick one of the very good guys. Never felt like an agent to me, particularly an Endeavor agent. More quiet and thoughtful. Glad to see him able to make the move to creative. He’ll bring an agents perspective which will help them if they truly do want to deficit their own programming, which I’m sure they don’t have the stomach for, but should. Unless of course it’s more mindless reality, then how do you not finance your own drivel. But it’s such a waste of that brand to do so.
Agreed AC. Hugh is top notch. Nice move.
