After starting her career playing the nice girl, Bryce Dallas Howard is showing a mean side. She will join the cast of the DreamWorks screen adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s bestselling novel The Help, playing the antagonistic role of Hilly Holbrook, the beehive hairdo-wearing busybody who is cruel to the black maids and generally rubs everyone the wrong way. Emma Stone and Fences star Viola Davis have already been set for leads in a film that is being directed by Tate Taylor, who wrote the screenplay. Stone plays a young journalist who comes home to write a tell-all of what it is like to be an African-American maid in pre-Civil Rights Mississippi. Shooting begins in July.
This follows a villainous turn for Howard in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, playing Victoria, the crimson-tressed vampire who stalks Bella (Kristin Stewart). That film opens June 30. Howard also starred with Matt Damon in the Clint Eastwood-directed Hereafter.

Love Bryce, she rocks! Very talented, loved her in “The Village” and can’t wait for this. Hopefully her name will help this historical drama, when adult dramas are the toughest sell right now.
Love her. Beautiful sweet smart super nice all because Ron and Cheryl raised her as far away as possible from Beverly Hills.
When will Gabourey Sidibe be cast in this movie?
“crimson-tressed” much better
She’s been working pretty consistently since escaping the crappy films like The Village & Lady in the Water.
So glad to hear someone else loved THE VILLAGE as much as I do. It’s a beautiful love story. Rewatch it as a love story, not as a Shyamalan film, and you would be surprised how good it is from that viewpoint. I personally like Shyamalan, but many don’t. Can’t wait for THE LAST AIRBENDER, it’s going to rock!
I love THE VILLAGE too. It’s not perfect but it is absolutely not a bad film. For some reason people really are afraid to step outside the pack when they view and critique M Night films. It’s like middle school, they have to wear the sneakers the other kids wear and like what everybody else likes.
I first cast viola davis (in my head) as aibileen in this movie, but I think S. epatha merkcuson (law and order) would be a better choice, Gaberay Sinabe is too young to play minnie, sherry shephard could play minnie. Queen Latifah could play Constantine.
