Claire Forlani and Thomas Haden Church have departed Showtime’s new comedy series Episodes starring Matt LeBlanc. Forlani, who had a lead role on the show, was recast after the table read. with another British actress, Tamsin Greig (Shaun of the Dead). Church, who was to recur on the series, had a scheduling conflict with an independent movie.
Episodes, which has received a seven-episode order, revolves around a successful British husband-and-wife comedy team (Greig, Stephen Mangan) thrilled by the prospect of producing a U.S. version of their hit series. But they soon are forced to replace the erudite British lead with LeBlanc and have to navigate the Hollywood TV executive system. Co-starring on the series are Kathleen Rose Perkins and Mircea Monroe.

Oh, so it’s an American version of “Extras” minus Ricky Gervais, or any sense of irony, with Matt LeBlanc… Should be huuuuuge.
The bigger new is: Claire Fulani landed a lead in a series?!
Seriously. Good for them for getting rid of her.
Except for Ricky Gervais wasn’t playing himself and Extras (which I loved, btw) isn’t based (loosely) on the real life story of Steve Moffat and Sue Vertue bringing Coupling to the US and getting Ben Silvermaned.
Ben Silvermaned. That’s self-explanatory, right?
I thought so.
Ahhh. Clearer now, thanks.
This show still looks to be a big LeBlanc in Showtime’s revolver.
Hey, I bet I can score a writing job there…
Tamsin Greig was great in “Green Wing” and I look forward to her making some US sitcom bucks on this side of the pond. Put Stephen Fry in this thing and make for some real TV.
Claire Forlani. Met her a bunch of times in real life. Sweet, interesting, pretty. But funny? Not even in a British way. This girl’s natural setting is solemn. If not full-on despondent.
You’ve hit the nail on the head – I could never put my finger on it, but you right – she does appear full-on despondent. Chronic Depression perhaps? Hardly ever smiles and often looks spacey.
She just can’t pull off comedy of any sort and most of her other work strikes me as “wooden” Just can’t seem to put any “feeling” in her roles. Makes sense now..
Tamsin Greig was quite brilliant in Britcom BLACK BOOKS a few years ago. Glad to see her getting this; I hope she shines.
Tasmin Grieg was a standout among a brilliant ensemble in Green Wing, one of the best comedies to never be given a fair chance on this side of the pond. BBC America aired only the first of two seasons and it languished without proper promotion. To this day it’s still not available on Region One DVDs. Hop over to Hulu and check it out.
Table read shake-ups happen all the time – but for some reason, this season’s seem to be more publicized. I wonder what that’s about.
It’s because much namier people are “stepping down” to do TV. Freaking Forrest Whitaker, recent Oscar-winner, is doing the Criminal Minds spin-off for chrissake. Strange, strange times.
I echo the comments about the terrific Tamsin Greig — great in everything and she should be a delight. She alone could make the show worth catching.
I loved Extras, and this version sounds funny to me. Maybe I’m the only one.
“Green Wing” fans, rejoice — playing opposite Tamsin in “Episodes” is her co-star in “Green Wing” — the hilarious Stephen (“Guy Secretain”) Mangan.
This this is why a friend of mine told me that after he auditions and gets a callback and books the job, usually he is not being paid to do the table read (he is usually cast as a co-star and sometimes a guest star) So he doesn’t go to the table read cause he’s had some of his lines cut at the table read before. He just goes to the set the day he’s scheduled to film the episode.
Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Greig are great – just make the show about them…
So glad to see Kathleen Rose Perkins in the cast! I only hope the show itself is as great as she is!!!
