I’ve exclusively obtained the letter (below) that went out today from the Producers Guild to Millennium Films’ Avi Lerner and Danny Dimbort about Dimbort’s teenaged granddaughter possibly receiving a producers credit on the upcoming film Solitary Man — and why that’s a violation of the PGA rules. The Producers Guild told me it does not comment on its private communications to members or on the specifics of a particular arbitration or arbitration issue. But, trust me, this letter is genuine.

I am shocked & appalled!
Bogus producing credits are for otherwise unemployable son-in-laws, guys the other producers owe money/favors too, and the occasional mistress/dominatrix. It is not for teenage grandchildren.
They have rules for this sort of thing for a reason!
HYSTERICAL
avi not returning a call is shocking
Say what you will about Avi, but he does go out of his way to return phone calls. A superb gentleman.
Dimbort you putz you would’ve got away with it if you’d made her a Co-Executive Producer then she could’ve been one of seven Co-Executive Producers and she would’ve blended into all the non-essential names on the poster and nobody would’ve suspected anything. You have to be subtle when you pull this crap. Giving her a shared Produced By credit was idiotic. I’m sure you’ll do better next time you do this shit you moron.
Max is right, if you want to screw people in Hollywood you have to do it with much more subtlety. This Dimbort guy must’ve fallen out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down.
I thought these type of credits usually landed under the Associate Producer title.
Who the hell is the “Producer’s Guild”, a ‘union’ that nobody is signatory to have any involvement in another company’s business.
Maybe Marshall Herskovitz should worry about his own producing career and think about why he has no overhead deal.
Van Petten is right, and this shit shouldn’t be tolerated. I’ve never taken a credit I didn’t deserve, and wouldn’t give one that isn’t.
By the way, the “Producer’s Guild” boasts a membership of thousands of credible industry professionals, PRODUCERS (moron) who are responsible for little movies, like the ones that get nominated for Oscars and shit…
Knowing how Avi and Dimwit work over there, it was probably a “birthday present” to her or else payment for something illegal.
Avi is a fraud. He doesn’t even watch his own films. Crunching numbers of star salaries and returns is all he does.
dude- don’t attack the teenaged granddaughter. “payment for something illegal.” everyone’s fair game when it comes to the Hollywood smear machine.
every time I read the comments on this generally useful website, my dislike for our industry deepens. plenty of human indecency is recounted in the stories themselves–why go out of your way to add to the mix with this kind of petulant, petty nastiness?
I guess that’s what most of us are, self-hating, petulant jerks. how depressing.
Dude..you can totally produce a film starring Michael Douglas shot on the streets of Manhattan when you’re a junior in high school…..duh?
Just a guess, is she a high school student applying to college? People will do anything these days to fluff up their kids’ resumes to get them into college. It’s really the college’s fault for demanding unreasonable accomplishments of teenagers, but it sounds like these guys are not the most honorable of sorts anyway. Of course this will still go on her resume and it’s unlikely any college will know the real truth.
That’s a bingo!
So Dana Golumb has a producer credit on two upcoming films: Trust- dir. by David Schwimmer – and Undisputed III: Redemption. Both are produced by Avi and Dimbort.
Possibly a bit more research is needed here. Has she done work on either of these films? Maybe a call to Schwimmer or the other producers of those films might be a good idea. Also, do we have a confirmed age of Dana? Possibly she’s following in her grandfather’s footsteps to be a producer.
I’m not defending anyone or siding either way… I’m just surprised a quick search on imdb turns up this info and no one (the article or the PGA) has mentioned this.
While the PGA hurries to defend its esteemed feature members, its many nonfiction producer members remain in a world ungoverned by anything even close to reasonable working conditions or accurate credits.
That’s why I don’t pay out a bundle of fees every year to pay for screeners. The PGA isn’t a union and therefore is under no obligation to do anything about working conditions. They can write a letter about good old Dana getting a credit she didn’t earn, but that ultimately doesn’t mean anything. Returning favors or plain old nepotism is how half of the credits get given in this town. It is nice, however, to see someone caught in the act!
I’m not advocating what Millenium did. It’s grotesque. But the Producers “Guild” has no actual legal power. It’s literally a group of powerful (or waning) producers doing their best to keep everyone out of the sandbox.
Oh, and if you break their “rules?” They kick you out! Horrors! Now you can’t work… wait… really? Nothing changes? You can work wherever you want, because no one prescribes to their rules?
The whole thing is a sham. Nearly $1000 to apply? $350 a year membership dues? For what? People to write angry letters on your behalf that are ignored? To have a few coctail parties with people who are, in reality, your direct competition?
Fuck them. They should be investigated for fraud, and anyone who joins investigated for stupidity.
Couldn’t afford the fees, eh? You sound like someone who would see colleagues and potential collaborators as “the competition”. Good luck working the craft services table.
With over a billion worldwide boxoffice as a producer thus far and with two movies gearing up to shoot, I’m not worried about the fees. I just find it an absurd grift of my hard earned money for an organization designed to preserve the status quo.
By the way, I’ve partnered with Oscar winning producers, producers who’ve never made a movie, and all manner in between. Whatever it takes to move a project forward, right?
But if you don’t realize that other producers are by the nature of the business competitors, then I look forward to visiting the craft service table on one of my movies and receiving a hot cup of coffee from you.
Now now, let’s see if it’s a mistake or not. Let’s not jump to conclusions hollyweird.
Ha! Is this a joke? This is the only way anyone gets credit in this town. Well…that and perhaps his granddaughter blew one of the cast members or the director.
Sad, but true story. I worked on a film which Nu Image co-financed. On the first day of principal photography, we received a phone call from a guy (who shall go nameless) informing us that he was now a producer on the film. No-one had never heard of the guy before or since, but due to N.I.’s control of the film, he received the credit. Apparently, this has happened on numerous N.I. films.
How dare they accuse Avi Lerner of having professional ethics and obligations!
Avi
Can someone tell me how Avi does it. Tell everyone you are making a $60 million dollar movie. Wink Wink. Make the movie for $18 million. Avi puts $42 million into his pocket and not one of his international buyers are the wiser.
Which movie in production in Bulgaria is this?
If you take a look at any of their credit blocks you will usually see an average of 12 producer names. I guess even Avi and Danny and Trevor and John and Boaz can go too far. It is about time. No surprise, maybe she got the producer fee Avi never paid me.
Avi Lerner is tool and a rabid liar, and the PGA is a joke! The PGA would rather preach about the cult of global warming then find it’s members work.
I’m sure the little girl who get’s the credit has done more work then most managers who get credits, same to be said for hack agents who are now producers, they are CLUELESS!!
This young Producer has also received Produced by credits on two upcoming Lerner/Dimbort-produced projects. i wish my grandpa made movies and gave me credits before i tried to enter film school
No one has ever heard of her. She had nothing to do with the movie. Not even getting someone a cup of coffee. Shameless really.
Great way to pay for College tuition, great idea. Great work Nikki!
This is why my film degree is a joke. Too bad I learned that after taking on massive student loans.
If you have your own company you can do whatever you want to do. If it is your $$$ you still can do whatever you want. If your grandpa makes movies and is a multi millionaire who care what anyone thinks. They are the smart ones they are actually making money while everyone here has nothing better to do but talk about them. This cracks me up.
Her name is spelled Dana Golomb you can find her on Facebook she’s a typical spoiled brat here’s Google image results there’s a photo of Dimbort below the first row of Dana’s pics:
http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=%22Dana%20Golomb%22&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi
Must be nice to be a rich bitch who gets a producer credit for doing nothing at all.
At least these guys didn’t go quite as far as Meshullam Riklis did when he purchased a Golden Globe award for his wife Pia Zadora in 1982 (BUTTERFLY). But it’s almost funny how a film that has baffingly not gotten real distribution in the US has so many credited producers.
Right, but it is not a guild. More like a social club that makes lame, meaningless pronouncements.
