UPDATES Attention, Hollywood Writers…
Since I wrote about problems at TheOffice, several big Hollywood writers have generously responded. Eric Roth donated several memberships to struggling writers who weren’t able to join in the past. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci also made a similar donation. Said the owner to me, “Though we’re not totally out of the woods, we are certainly headed in the right direction.” (Again, I have no connection to the place whatsoever.)

This is fantastic news.
though i’m not really a screenwriter, i’m thinking strongly of signing up, just cause it seems like a nice place to be able to sit and stare dully into infinity. (its also really close to my son’s school) like an old english club, but without the taxidermy on the walls.
very cool for roth, orci and kurtzman to help a brother/sista out. (I was a big fan of orci and kurtzman before this.) i was just talking to a novelist friend of mine (published 3x) who is barely making it and still has to work for an Internet giant to pay rent in Santa Monica. i hope these guys mentioned supra get back 10x what they “put out there” to help out the tribe.
How about throwing some money at writersroomla.com?
For those of us on the east side…
Good to hear that Eric Roth, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci had a compassion towards struggling writers.
I am so proud of my powerful writing peers for putting their money where the keys meet. I have been a struggling writer for so long I think I have a tomb in Egypt. I have a major spec script I am writing and need my days off work (from my day job) to have a place to focus and write. I need a place to write where I can see other like minded writers sweat out their first draft with me. Thank you, Eric Roth, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci!
This is a step in the right direction, and I hope more writers and filmmakers who can afford to will donate. Heck, the studios should back this place so that they’ll end up getting more quality material. It benefits everyone if writers are, well, WRITING.
Fuck a writers room. ( To quote the Entourage gang)Give us a ref- feral to an agent or buy our scripts. Bitter not better is my motto.
This whole concept of writers ( the lonely) profession sitting around a room eating croissants and drinking lattes would make Hemingway puke. ( It’s the Entourage director in me season 4) Real writers had to produce a certain number of words per day without air conditioning, leather chairs or a view of the beach.
The established personalities in Hollywood are showing their generous side and I really along with many other Hollywood fans really appreciate this effort.
Please you help struggling writers 2 achieve their goals and focus so it more like a poetry club i have a script and any assistance from other writers will be most welcome
